Anyone hear from OP?

I tracked down a copy for him but he ghosted me.

Yet another "buyer"...  Roll Eyes
What is your seller wanting to sell it for?

Tell "buyers" they can either put BTC in escrow until you find one to sell, or fuck off.

If you check the date either side of that day on the newspaper sale sites there's no shortage of availability for the times. Looks like some speculators have hoovered them all up. I'll just print myself up a t shirt for peanuts instead.

As you can see, even if you want to buy one of these, nobody can even find a seller. From the looks of it the floor price for one of these is 5-10 BTC which is extraordinary in itself for what is effectively only a front page that will probably be framed. Really, they are only going to get more expensive as time goes on and more rich people join the bitcoin gravy train. I wonder what the copyright length is one a physical object like that, if someone could make copies or artwork out of it..

Sounds like Fortify has himself a copy. Wink

Funny things, these newspapers.

I'm interested in purchasing another copy; I know what they're worth (although apparently nobody else does), and most of you can probably make a reasonable estimation as to my ability to actually follow through on an offer once I've made it.

Best of luck to all who seek these acidic, rapidly decaying items!

I think everyone can see how valuable this newspaper has become and it's only going to get harder to attain as time goes on. It's a sellers market for this item at the moment and demand is far outstripping available supply.

I'll believe it when I see proof of solvency from a supposed buyer! For all the times I've seen people "looking to buy" one, nobody ever actually goes ahead and does it.

I was interested and actually paid 80 dollars for one on historic newspapers they said it was in stock, but got a refund after a week claiming they had made an error and sold out. I tracked a guy who was selling one but wanted 10 BTC. I offered half that and got no response. I don't think I want it anymore. Lost a bunch of valuable comics  in a flood don't wanna go through that again.

So this is just the NY Times from this date that's so collectible,  right?  Interesting.   I didn't know it had become such a keepsake, though I think the asking prices that I've seen here are outrageous.

No, it's the Times of London from that date, and the headline is embedded in the Genesis block.

HAHA, hence my template addition:

Please PM, IM (links under my QR code avatar), text 619-393-2253, or IRC me. Don't, if you won't prove that you have enough funds to pay immediately.

CLAIMS
Charlie Shrem has/had one. He claims he'd been offered 8-10 BTC for his. No proof provided.

A few random reddit users claim that one was sold at a conference in Argentina for 10-12 BTC. No proof provided.

Shrem also says he saw one go at auction for 11+ (I think). Again, no proof provided.

FACTS
I bought mine on this forum for 0.26 BTC. Sniped monkeynuts, much to his annoyance. Many photographs of the paper w/ my PGP fingerprint on top exist.

I sold mine on this forum for ?? BTC. I chose to sell it as part of a larger lot, disguising the price by parcelling it with other hard-to-value items, because I couldn't get rid of the fucking thing any other way.

December 2015 Sale thread, I sell the paper for ?? BTC: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/sold-ultimate-bitcoin-collectors-pack-rare-high-ticket-items-for-sale-1288536. It vanishes into a private collector's hands.

EDIT:
Nubbins has/had one for sale not long ago. He actually offered it to me as a trade when I was trying to sell my cas MS68 tenth (back when 68 was actually rare).

Forgot about that! We can add that to the list above.

MY OWN HIJACK
I'm interested in purchasing another copy; I know what they're worth (although apparently nobody else does), and most of you can probably make a reasonable estimation as to my ability to actually follow through on an offer once I've made it.

I've reached out to a few sellers in a brokerage capacity to try to help them make sales, but so far none of the "sellers" have been at all forthcoming with even basic things such as proof of ownership. Serious sellers who want to actually get rid of a paper for its actual value, feel free to contact me privately.

I offered a seller 5 BTC in a brokered deal a couple of days ago and he just didn't bother to reply. Talk about missed opportunities.

Best of luck to all who seek these acidic, rapidly decaying items!

Do any libraries still have microfilm anymore? If so, it is only an image, but it could be reproduced and framed / sealed. Would be cool to put it on parchment or a scroll, limited edition copies, document and number them, and sell them for btc.  Roll Eyes

it was sold with the lot of cas coins with docs for a large sum if i recall correctly.

The silliness in this and the other threads is strong.  Newspapers don't make good collectibles anyway imo.  I have 2 papers frim 9/11/01 that have not held up well.

It's not silly when something has value.
This is true, & I won't argue that. I just question whether a newspaper from this particular date has any real value. And I'm warning against keeping newspapers as collectibles. It's hard to do.  And the only real reason I question value in this case is because of the ridiculous amounts that are being asked.

To me, it does, and to many other people too... And it has quite a high value that I, unfortunately, can't afford Smiley

I think placing this in a glassed frame would help conserve it for quite a few years.

This is a bit like Bitcoin itself: why do people value it? Wink

Why not you search on google?if you only need the news, you can find this online for reading

The article in question is a collectible... Unless you feel searching for the article online and printing it is the same as having the physical edition of The Times from that day, then you're totally right Grin Wink
