Scuse me for the ( very stupid ?) question but, how the "GPU risers" worked ?
I'm french, so.. I don't understand correctly.. I don't use google translate for understand your words.. I need to learn.. So, scuse me too for my bad english Wink

Can you explain me ? Smiley

Thanks in advance men.

EDIT : In this way it's possible to install 8 Graphic cards on a motherboard with 4 slot PCI x16 ?

Follow tacotime's build. I have looked it over and would like to endorse it. Your current revisions to your own build still have issues.
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/litecoin-build-for-noobs-3x-7950s-18-mhs-in-a-10-crate-case-163306

Looking it over more now, I would consider it an ideal build. Reliable brands, parts, etc.
I have my preference for including the AMD APU but from what you have said before, I would recommend you don't complicate things for yourself. Don't change his build for your units.

tacotime, can you confirm that litecoin mining needs more system ram?
I was going to comment that I thought 2GB wouldn't be near enough for litecoin, like it is for bitcoin, but my litecoin endeavors are limited.

Quick question, planning to setup 4x7950 for mining LTC, my question should be crossfire or every GPU work separatly?

Run them separately. Crossfire won't help with hashing and might even hinder it.

people keep asking me what to build, so I made a thread here

everyone please stop sending pms

According to Toms Hardware, the 7790 gets about 50% more mhash than a 7770 on BTC.

I don't think those 7790's will yield you too much.. I would imagine they would do just as well or a little better than the 7770s.. ~140kh

Okay, so this is what I have for the setup with a few changes as suggested:

650 Watt Corsair PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139020

ATX Mobo w/ 4 PCIE 2.0 slots and 2 PCIE 1.0 slots: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128514

2GB RAM (Do I need to replace this with 2, 1GB modules?): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104219

AMD Dual Core Llana CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819106013

Generic 16GB USB flash drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820313313

6x ATI Radeon 7790 GPUs: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125455

What else am I needing?

Offtopic interest: how much hashing power do you think you will archieve with that?

Another person posted, but I expect 2.3 to 2.4 mhash (closer to 2.4 mhash, as most LTC miners are achieving 600 khash with the 7950).

1. You picked an FM2 CPU and an AM3+ motherboard. Different socket. Doesn't fit. I recommend keeping the CPU and changing the motherboard.

2. You picked 4 GPUs but the motherboard only has 2 pcie slots. Unless you plan on using extenders?
whoops didn't see this:

GPU Risers (I assume I need 2)
No, you need 4. It will be a total mess otherwise.

3. Why the 7950 and not the 7970?

4. Why do you need a monitor? Especially since you are using linux. Use SSH.

5. I don't think the system will work without RAM

6. You are going to have a real fun time with that IDE hard drive. Also, it's probably never a good idea to buy a used hard drive.

7. You probably shouldn't try to deal with risers anyway. Some motherboards have issues with them. Get a motherboard with 3xPCIe 16x/8x with enough space for 3 2-slot cards.

8. Some might disagree but for a mining rig, I would only use the best PSUs for reliability. Seasonic and Corsair (who's high end is manufactured by seasonic)

9. FYI, just noticed that The PSU you picked only supports up to 3 video cards anyway (3x6pin and 3x6+2pin). You can't use it with the current 4 card setup.

1. Thanks. I am not too familiar with AMD motherboards, and wasn't sure which one I would need.

2. I'll use 4 extenders - initial I assumed I would need x4, but saw some information otherwise that made me question that.

3. For Litecoins, the 7950 is superior from a cost to has ratio (7950 mines about 600 khash vs. 700-750 for a 7970, with a >$100 USD difference that makes the 7950 a better choice)

4. Great idea.

5. I believe I mentioned RAM? If not, my apologies. I was looking at this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104219

6. I'll look at a different HDD. Was trying to find whatever is the cheapest for this. What would the best suggestion be? Would it be feasible to use a thumbdrive on an open USB port loaded with required programs (Linux, CGMiner, config files, ect)?

As for the PSU issue - thanks. I will look into a new/different PSU.

7950s are recommended over 7970s because they are easier to configure -- it can be a royal pain in the ass to get some 7950s over 500 KH/s.

Save yourself some time and buy this board instead:

+1

(I didnt even think they sold IDE HDs anymore...)

Looks like about 550-620 Kh/s per card so 2.2-2.4 Mh/s per unit. He says a few so that's 6.6-7.2 Mh/s total.

Using the conservative estimate that's 69 LTC/day right now. (http://litecoinminingcalculator.com/index.php?khs=6600)

Looking at building a few of these. Trying to figure out where my build is wrong or if I'm missing something. Please comment to let me know:

Primary Components:
4x ATI Radeon 7950s
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202006

1000 Watt Rosewill PSU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182188

ATX Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138372

AMD Dual Core CPU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819106013

Re-furbished HDD:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822144518

Secondary Components (haven't priced/linked ATM):

Thumbdrive for Linux OS Installation
KB/M
Monitor
GPU Risers (I assume I need 2)

I'm trying to go for optimal hashing power for price. Obviously, this is what everyone goes for. The only way I can see to increase profitability is running a 6x card setup with a ~1300 watt PSU, but that is likely going to be too much of a draw on my circuits initially. If there's something missing, please let me know. This will be an open-air setup that I'm looking to do a few quasi-unique things with for mounting.

Thanks!
