Amazon type store have costs - millions USD each year. It is not possible to make so large international online shop, if you do not have let say 10 millions USD or around 14 000 Bitcoins. You can make small shop with Bitcoins, but even then you will need strong advertising, which costs a lot. So it is question if such store will make profit ?

Hello, I am looking to build a store like amazon a place where you place an order and pay with bitcoins. What do you guys think?

I need to repeat myself, something I always say when we talk about selling things for bitcoins, people would like yo see good sales, low prices. Amazon is big, they order big and they have good prices for their products, its hard to be competitive with them. You need to find a way to have unique products with low price.
If you can arrange that then you can make some profit with your project, if you can't then people will sell bitcoins and buy things for dollars or they will just use purse.

You seriously can't win against amazon here or even get close to where they're at. Let's remember, Amazon was born in the early stages of the internet. Where only a few competition was there. Then Amazon also has a unique selling point, which was the biggest online bookstore (until today).

If you're seriously gonna challenge Amazon, you have to have some unique selling point that would capture the hearts of the people. Not just copy them and spin it off a bit. You won't go far.

Bitcoin is master cryptocurrency, My suggestion is use other altcoins too as a payment services. Already there are certain services which offer instant exchange with help of API to receive payment from altcoins.

Nice.
Now if the online store accepts not only bitcoins but some major alts as well, it will be an added advantage over the other bitcoin online stores.

There are already BTC based stores and marketplaces, and now major retailers accept Bitcoin (Overstock for example)

Besides, shoppers have Purse, cheap and high quality products from amazon.

How will you compete with that ?

and we have a new Bill Gates among us. He wants to start a new Amazon. Hahaha

Do you really think this is that easy? Since you do have only 3 posts, I d suggest you read a lot about crypto before you do anything. Taxes, shipping, marketing, refunds, etc. Have you considered all these aspects?

What is your budget man?

+1.  I wrote http://www.coindesk.com/meet-onewallet-new-auction-site-bitcoiners/, but the owner closed it down due to lack or turn over.  I could spin up again if budget was right.

Isn't this project... OpenBazaar?

Nope, OpenBazaar is a decentralized market place, where this guy wants to create a site similar to Amazon that is centralized. Sites like this are prone to fail, because centralized services needs a lot of money to succeed. They come under constant attacks, because they are a HoneyPot for hackers to compromised people's accounts.

Good luck OP, I hope you realize what you are getting yourself into with this. ^smile^

Duh! I thought he wanted to do something like OpenBazaar, couldn't even imagine he wanted to make just another centralized marketplace! So old stuff! Cheesy

That is old and already there are sites which give 20% discount also which accepts bitcoins as payment and ordering with bitcoins.

Try something new.

This has nothing really to do with his site but do you know any trusted ones?

And i mean if you can offer they can not that i say go for it just remember if it gets big enough your going to need staff.

It took amazon a very long time to make a profit with lots of venture capital behind it. Massive undertaking.

It is a great idea, we already heard this kind of thing fro a long time, but up until now there are no store as big as amazon yet, the store that existed seems had a trouble to expands, so if you want to open store like amazon you need to prepare a lot of marketing team with a lot of promotion and if possible don't start with small scope, if it is being well maintained and well advertise it will be a good business

It will be hard to start marketplace similar to amazon however you can look at business concept of purse.io. You can also make few changes on their service and way of operation and start similar service, i think there is still space for another similar platform but it may be hard to build trust on starting days. You can also add support to ebay, banggood etc marketplaces too.

Did you know, Amazon.com started as an online bookstore, later diversifying to sell DVDs, Blu-rays, CDs, video downloads/streaming, MP3 downloads/streaming, audiobook downloads/streaming, software, video games, electronics, apparel, furniture, food, toys and jewelry? ^smile^

You should concentrate on a smaller market first, to see if it gains momentum and then expand to other retail items. Amazon's initial business plan was unusual; it did not expect to make a profit for four to five years.

You have big shoes to fill, Amazon has :

Revenue              US$107 billion (2015)
Operating income   US$2.233 billion (2015)
Net income              US$596 million (2015)
Total assets      US$65.444 billion (2015)
Total equity      US$13.384 billion (2015)

There maybe a lot of sites out there that offers same features that your planned site is offering but there's still space for newly developed sites like yours. I suggest that you look at the review sites of those who offers same service and note down what they are missing and try to use that at your advantage by making sure its available in your site. Sell products that others don't.

adding extra payment methods is not good and it can even have a negative effect of confusing customers. i say you should stick with bitcoin only payment and don't complicate things at all.

besides none of the altcoins are really being used and no one is going to spend them, people buy altcoins to sell at higher price and earn profit not to spend them!

Hello, I am looking to build a store like amazon a place where you place an order and pay with bitcoins. What do you guys think?
Do it only if you have tremendous capital already and can afford to lose it. I am not sure if you are aware of how big project creating huge online shop is.
What I suggest here - instead of standard online shop a better idea (for now at least) is starting a service similar to Shopawl - where you physically don't have to own any products.
And instead act like bitcoin payment processor for everything on Amazon or eBay.
