Don't be so hard on ISIS. It's just a small government, craving to establish control of the people in a random area. They will soon learn that to maximise their cut of the prosperity of the people, the people need to have a minimum of stability. When they have total mind control, minimum violence need be expended. Just like here.

Ad maiora!
I just don't believe anything anymore. The USA is corrupt, the ISIS are insane. News means "disinformation, propaganda and lies"
Is there a btc address for ISIS? I guess we can't see the tx because someone might send them BTC? Seems like a perfect lie. Or not.
I really don't know. But if ISIS is using BTC, they still have to cash out at some point. Unless I here are btc exchanges running out of Syria, they still got no money. Also, if ISIS is using btc, western hackers can make serious legit bank working for the US. Can't see a bunch of head chopping barbarians being all that tech savvy, do you?

Also- post #1000 woot!

you must be really stupid to collect bitcoins for terrorism activities. you can follow the trail that coins leave on the blockchain much easier than fiat.

Good luck with that.  Think they'll ever find the Bitlocker guys?  Or the guys who stole the coins from Bitstamp?

Good thing that they use Bitcoin. At least Bitcoin can be traced - within some limits, I know.
Maybe somebody really good will find out who funds those mofos and bring them to justice!

What?

You mean the CIA or Mossad, or their gofer intermediaries from places like Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain?

Yes, unfortunately those mofo-funders are in the US government. Good luck bringing them to justice.  They don't believe in it.

Look! ISIS can (and/or will) use Bitcoin to facilitate terrorism!
Look! ISIS can (and/or will) use a suitcase of dollars to facilitate terrorism!
Look! ISIS can (and/or will) use Litecoin to facilitate terrorism!
Look! ISIS can (and/or will) use Darkcoin to facilitate terrorism!
Look! ISIS can (and/or will) use Doge to facilitate terrorism!
Look! ISIS can (and/or will) use PGP/GPG to facilitate terrorism!

etc..etc..etc

It's the digital age, gentlemen. If a terrorist can use YouTube he can use a digital wallet. Why blame it on the Bitcoin?
That's what I think also. They use computers, cars, socks, etc. Are we going to throw out our socks now?

Let's not forget they also breath air which is keeping them alive. Let's ban air.

From that thread I posted
"I think this is a great opportunity to show them Bitcoin and get some users from the Middle East. The anonymity and low fees are sure to be a turn on. How can we spread the word and help Bitcoin go TO THE MOON!?"

Wow gentlemen, wow.

I made that thread as a joke but I should have known it would actually happen.

Coin mixing can be used to hide traces in the blockchain.

Its not always the case .I am sure those mixing sites store transaction data somewhere, and if something serious happens, then they can probably be made to give up the information to the governemnt.

oh my why am i not surprised... looks like coindesk is whoring for mainstream media now..

"Israeli daily newspaper Haaretz has reported that S2T analyst Ido Wulkan managed to find concrete evidence linking an ISIS cell based in the US to fundraising activities. The cell apparently used the dark web and bitcoin to cover its tracks."

Coin mixing is not perfect - big amounts are not "perfectly" mixed, I heard.
Coin mixing is risky - you send money to a 3rd party and you hope you'll get money back.
Coin mixing is quite an advanced feature and I don't expect ISIS to spend much time on these forums.
So I still think that there's hope...

So? Whats your point here?
Aside from showing that bitcoin can facilitate terrorism funding (and according to that coindesk article, already is), that some people here think that terrorist jumping on board is good news that will help bitcoin go to the moon and that arguing that an association with terrorism is enough to bring draconian regulations to bitcoin and potentially kill it, none.

I don't think it's positive for the image of bitcoin, then again, people generally don't seem to care that the large majority of terrorism is funded in USD... It will be used as an argument against bitcoin but it's not all that strong. Bitcoin currently has much bigger problems that prevent its growth.

I don't think you want to restrict certain groups from using it either, that would break some very fundamental ideas on which bitcoin was created.

There are much more efficient ways to deal with criminals of any kind.

I guess there's a good thing to the price decline now...
IS is now up to 80% less funded and able to cause terror.
