Ethereum and litecoin are the most risk free coins in the market. We can also add Dash, Monero to this list as well. All other coins have speculative prices.
I agree, especially on litecoin. If we look at historical snapshots of currencies on coinmarketcap, we'll see that litecoin has been around for a really long time. If we take a look at recent years, I would say that ripple, dash, monero, ethereum and for recent times waves have been rather stable and kept growing with time. Others are mostly just too new to judge and predict long-term IMO. The op is asking about 5% profit, I guess it's safe with coins mentioned above.

With low risk comes lower rewards, but it sounds like you are okay with that. "Low reward" in crypto is still an amazing reward compared to most traditional markets. For these low risk projects, I'd either focus on a top 10 project on market cap or choose a good project that is between market cycles (i.e. stratis).

For stable coins that increase in value slowly (for the most part), look at those that have passed the test of time like Litecoin or others like Ripple where the price can be somewhat controlled by the devs who have a vested interest in keeping the price from fluctuating wildly.

You could also try a staking coin if you just wanted accumulation.

What are altcoins that are low-risk? Coins that would have 3-5% growth per annum?

You can invest in ethereum, litecoin, ripple and monero as this coins will give you higher profits if you can manage to hold them for a long term.

RISK is inversely proportional to GAIN.

I suggest you diversify and get several each of; low, med, high risk coins.  They will buffer your portfolio from the expected rise and fall of crypto value.

If you do your research, you will find several coins that made 1,000% gain the past year.  Some made 1,000% gain in 6 months!  While they are not that easy to spot early...you can catch them after the initial pump if you are diligent enough. Better yet, do a good research and join choice ICOs (careful, there are many scam there and even good ones sometimes fails) so don't throw too much money in them unless it have all the right "ingredients for success" (good project, good dev team, positive community support/reaction, etc.).

Good luck!

If you trade coins instead of holding short term or long term, there is no coin that is risk free now. Every coin is risky in trading. On the other hand I think bitcoin is the best choice as a low risk coin for both trading and holding.

Yeah bitcoin is always an best choice to invest your money as in long term you will definitely make good profits from it and if you want to invest in any altcoin then ethereum would be an right choice to make.

NONEEEEE. 9 out of 10 startups don´t make it. SO low risk crypto doesn´t exist. About gut feeling? I would say any coins actively developed will give you that. You don´t know if tomorrow the best of the best doens´t get tired and vanish... So i would go for a diversified portfolio of coins ( that aim to be currencies ), tokens ( that aim to be payment means in good projects), dividend payment tokens ( such as the profit sharing fund TAAS).

Ethereum, Litecoin and Monero are the least risk altcoins as if you hold it for the right time then it will only bring positive results for you.

I agree 100% with this list.

That said, the safest coin to invest in (for now) is still BTC.

If you are looking for the low-risk altcoin and should go to the all of the major token or coin, as far as i know that will not get significant dump until the big bad news will be happening, you must remember about the fact to invest in the unfamiliar crypto will have involved very high risk.

The lowest risk alt coins IMHO are the alt coins with medium to medium high staking rates in the 5% to 30% range. This group includes Triangles (TRI), Spectrecoin (XSPEC),  Deep Onion (ONION), Ark and Noblecoin (NOBL). If the staking rate is too high, for example in excess of 50%, I am concerned about excessive monetary inflation and a catastrophic collapse in the price of the coin or possible skulduggery by the developers to trap investors that are lured by a high staking rate.

ETH is slated for conversion to PoS and may become attractive for investment at some point. Other coins that are non-PoS which I feel are good long term investments are BTC, XMR, LTC and FCT.

The higher an alt is on the CoinMarketCap list, typically the lower the risk is. If you're looking for the lowest risk altcoin out there I would go with ETH or LTC.

All legitimate alts will most likely increase at a rate of 3% or higher a year. Some of the lower market cap coins have the potential to increase 100+% or more. But they are of course more volatile and hence, more risky.

If ure looking for 3-5% growth per annum no need to look at crypto markets, you can have that by trading some more conventional assets. Or just hold main ones like BTC and ETH, though ETH is poised to outperform BTC in the future IMO.

Do not look for low risk in alts, there is hardly such a thing. Not many alts can outperform BTC or ETH, if you wanna trade them anyway, just avoid the mistake of benchmarking alts against fiat! Also focus more on crypto assets rather than coins
