someone in another thread is using the same card as me, uses sdk 2.6

also pointed out that I did need to manually remove a couple files when downgrading the driver software and that I need to do custom installs to keep driver software from auto upgrading the sdk

so I am almost done downloading the right versions ( I hope ) and already have the cgminer zip ready to make a fresh folder for it

Nope, when I get the program has stopped working popup the command prompt window is frozen on the screen until I click close, just no output.

Maybe a silly question but I haven'f found a definitive yes or no anywhere, do I need the SDK installed?

First of all when it comes to stupid question there are none and install everything that you get on the cd for the video card. Including the utilities.

Ok? Now did you create a NEW folder of a freshly downloaded and unzipped cgminer?

Note: I have had that problem with cgminer an its was a configuration problem which I'll help you through in a few steps but just make sure you have a fresh new folder so we can start in. To correct it I did NOT install drivers or anything system wide. It was strickly cgminer based.

and go from there.

I can take a screenshot, the only problem is that it doesn't return any data at all, it simply crashes.  So there is really nothing to take a picture of.  Maybe the cgminer.exe.log file will have some useful info though....

I haven't tried that version of cgminer, so I can give that a shot.  Also reading that people are having luck on win7x64 with the newest beta drivers, so I will also give those a shot and see what happens

When a dos window just flashs on and off thats not a crash. That is the dos window closing for various reasons. The program ends or the arguments sent to run the dos program were incorrect. Some time writing appears and quickly closes.

When a program crashes widows opens an Information window asking if you would like the program closed or a solution to be found. This is why I ask you to create a new folder with a fresh cgminer and make a shortcut to the exe program.

So we can isolate where the problem is.

I'll be steeping out for a half hour or so maybe less. If I don't answer.

No go on the 13.5beta drivers, but at least my BTC miner works again  Tongue

same thing with cg 2.10.5...  if I just run it with --scrypt it asks for a server, user, and pass then shuts down without any output.  Not seeing any log file to check either

Yes I know, but last time (when i followed a now lost howto) I ran the AMD uninstall utility and then after rebooting into safe mode there were still plenty of ati / opencl related .dll files that I manually removed.

Not that it matters much since I still don't know what the issue is.  Still getting the same failures on a fresh install with the 12.8 drivers

I can understand the frustration. Get rid of guiminer for now or put it aside.

then get cgminer 2.10.5 version I think that is what I am using.

make a shortcut of the cgminer.exe to desktop then go into properties.

In the properties target box add --scrypt only at the end of what is in there already and see what happens.

eg. blaw blaw blaw cgminer.exe --scrypt

remember a fresh new folder of cgminer. If you can make a screen capture of what is writen.

Pressing the print screen button and pasting it to your windows paint program and saving it to desktop then uploading that image to a photobucket kind of website then copy and post the image link on here with the insert image option .

Others will have a better idea of what your seeing.

Too late lol ... reinstalling all my stuff now.

I got the same errors with multiple pools / p2pools and both with / without wallet software running.

I am now hoping that the uninstall program didn't completely uninstall the recent drivers or sdk stuff and that is (hopefully) why I kept seeing so many errors.  I remember a while ago I saw a howto on removing them that required rebooting into safe mode and manually deleting several files, which of course I didn't do this time.

AMD has a utility that does the uninstalling of their drivers thoroughly.I just re-read your post and windows 8 has problems everywhere go back to windows 7. Stop banging your head.

Thanks for the tip, but I am more focused on getting the damn thing to actually work.  Once that happens, then I can play with stuff like that to maximize my hashes.  I get about 190mh/s doing nothing fancy mining BTC, which also doesn't work now after my tinkering trying to get a LTC miner running..... So looks like I will just be wasting time while I sleep tonight   Grin

The drivers were all I changed, but that should not keep the guiminer program from actually running.  The miner itself wouldn't work, but to have my frontend crashing before I even see it makes no sense.  I might as well format and start over at this point!  Roll Eyes

Not that it would help much since I clearly am missing some critical part of setting this thing up properly....  oh well, maybe it will be clearer in the morning.

Don't format. Just uninstall the drivers from the system section in your control panel shut down and restart windows go to the website dl the new drivers and install it again. Guiminer do the same uninstall put the one that worked or reinstall it.

Some p2pool bitcoin wallet and litcoin wallet conflicts don't know what pool your mining either. Don't wipe your hard drive. if thats what I understood.

Just preference for command / gui  Smiley  The guiminer uses cgminer, just with a (allegedly) easy frontend.....

Well I have no idea how it happened, since I am staring at a file that I downloaded direct from the AMD site that is clearly labeled as the 13.4 drivers, but catalyst is telling me I have 12.10 drivers.  Will just hope its a driver issue and cross my fingers....

You could use cgminer along with afterburner and have total uber control over your hash rates. Maybe even get better results. Do you get over 200 on that card? I get around a steady 204khs on litecoins which is 204mhs bitcoins. Its as easy as making a shortcut to desktop and adjusting a config file. I have the xfx6770 card I set the mem clock to 1275 and gpu clock to 900. Then let afterburner control the fans. Keep all settings in afterburner for easy start up.

Its a bit more involving but your not at the mercy of a front end program. lol Its like you become one with the miner.  Grin

Not a driver issue!

Just rolled back to 12.8 and now my guiminer won't even open!  Angry  Hard to test when the app crashes before the window is even open lol ....

cgminer is still doing the same thing from the command line, windows popup, program has stopped, pretty much instantly.

Yes I downloaded the scrypt version of guiminer and keep it seperate from the regular guiminer for btc

(edit) and I am also adding the --scrypt argument when I try to run from command prompt

Like I said before I'm not familiar with guiminer. I wish I could help you further. I guess I should try it to see why ppl use it. I find cgminer a great deal easier or maybe I'm just more accustomed to it.

Hi all, I am having some trouble getting started on LTC.  I mine BTC just fine, but my LTC miner won't run at all.

I have a 6770 card with 13.4 drivers and sdk 2.8 on win8 64bit.

When I run guiminer it does nothing, just sits there and waits until I shut it off.  The console shows my initial command and says listening but goes no further.

When I run cgminer in a command prompt I get almost the same thing, I see the program start then I get the 'program has stopped running' popup and it crashes.

I have searched high and low and read tons of threads and start up guides with no luck.  What am I missing?

Are you using cgminer with your guiminer? If so cgminer needs to run in scrypt mode. I really don't use guiminer so I'm not sure how that is set up. I do know cgminer works with litecoins.
