I was listening to a news that one of the relatives of a person kidnapped him and asked him for bitcoin in ransom. This happened because that person showed his bitcoin holdings to many of his relatives and news spread among them that he has lot of money invested in crypto. Though, finally funds were recovered from that guy but he could have even lost his life in the whole scenario.
At least this has got a good ending, unlike the other stories that have been published that they have never recovered the funds that were robbed to them and even taken the lives of the owners. This is one reason why you should just shut your mouth when you're talking with other people. There's no need for you to be boasting about your holdings or just tell that you've got some knowledge but you are unfortunate that you haven't bought at the lowest price because of the volatility.

The real-life that we're dealing with is full of people that you have to deal with and shouldn't be playful to them. Just limit the information that you're going to spit on your mouth because ill intentions could be made when you're enticing with everything that you say and the person you're talking to is also dealing with some hardships.

Thus, you should be careful with disclosing about your bitcoin holdings to everyone.
Never do that personally and even on online. Don't be comfortable to tell anything about your assets to other people because when you are on the spot and they kidnap or harm you, can you do anything with that? No. They are prepared but you're not prepared to protect yourself so just shut your mouth and let the conversation be on them to focus.

This advice does not only include Bitcoin holdings.  Anything that is valuable should not be flaunted and bragged to anyone, especially on social media platforms.  Showing one's wealth brings the temptation to ill-intentioned people.  This will put a person and his family's life in danger when someone is triggered to rob the person of his wealth.

It is better to be humble and keep our financial status hidden from anyone.  It does not hurt to not receive praise that we are good/great people because we successfully accumulate huge amounts of money.  In short better to keep a low profile and be safe than be acknowledged as high-profile but being targeted by wicked people.

TBH, I don't know what's the reason why do we need to brag our portfolio to other people?

I mean there's nothing wrong with sharing that you own cryptocurrencies, but to share the total amount? That lessens your security because things like the OP shared can happen. I know not all of our relatives can do such things like this, but always take note that anything can change when there's money involved.

Well anyways, I guess the best thing to do is to not share to anyone your total holdings. Saying that you own cryptocurrencies is enough already, and if there's a chance, you can teach them how to do it as well. Don't brag it like you are the richest man already, and try to help your relatives so that it will not end up like this. Smiley
Exactly, when it comes to money, specifically with crypto investment, sharing it to the other people or even with your relatives is a NO. Hiding your money to the relatives doesn't mean they are not trustworthy, but I don't see any valid reason for doing so. Who would know what the other people can do for money. Also, bragging your own portfolio might lead your life to be in danger.

Yes, as there are some people who can do anything for money. Letting anyone know the amount you own especially in cryptocurrency should not be done. It's enough to have other people/relatives to know that you have crypto or know about crypto.

Lesson learned: never ever share anything on social media. Well, it's not bad to share your achievement, but do not brag about it, and never share the wealth you have because that's when scammers or people who take advantage of people do so. You see, that is the problem now. People always share even the little things on social media; it's like a new norm now.

I also have friends who flex their bitcoin things or their trading journey or screenshot, which I don't contradict, but the thing is that they give the wrong idea about bitcoin or trading to the viewers of their posts or stories. Beginners in bitcoin will think that it is easy to earn in bitcoin, and if those viewers of their stories or posts nag them, asking for help on how to earn, which is a hassle because they want to learn bitcoin just because of the money. That's why I'm not a fan of flexing my achievements and earnings on social media.

This is a very basic rule but it seems it's so hard for majority to follow. Why? Because we have this attitude that if we share our successful story to other people, we can inspire them to do the same thing and experience the same success. But its not happening in reality, it will only make them feel belittle and its like you are underestimating their own skills and capabilities. Until they become offended and get back to you for revenge.

This is why instead of sharing everything we have most especially when it comes to the success of our bitcoin investment, its better to save it on our own and never disclose anything about them. It's safer that people will think that we have no bitcoin hodlings or any expensive investment with us so that they won't think of getting an edge over us or trying to think things that will put ourselves in danger.
Not really that totally a rule but rather it is really just that something which your common sense would really be telling you, you wouldn't really be that just so dumb on easily trying out to proclaim on how much money you do have, doesnt matter if its on crypto for or would really be in fiat form. Tendency or chances for you to have those life threatening situation would be high and this is something that we must avoid. Disclosing or sharing up
on how much you do own and i do agree on some points earlier that even your relatives would really be having that hidden jelousy considering that no one really likes in overtaken or specially seeing that you are living a life which is really that much better compared to them then it would really be just that normal that getting envy would really be there. The worst thing on here is that when that kind of feeling comes more severe
then this is where wrong intents and plans would really be mold up and this is why we should really be that careful.

It is surely a bad idea to tell people about our Bitcoin investment. Even if we tell to our relatives, we can't guarantee they won't respond it with bad things. How if they feel jealous or they are triggered to steal the Bitcoin? And it really can happen, the news you listened is one of the real examples. So, we must be careful to keep our investment, we don't need to do something that can risk the investment and our life, too. Always be humble and never feel to show up to others!

In my country, there is also the same case. A guy killed his friend because he wants to get the money from his friend crypto assets. He knows that his friend crypto assets is valued for big amount of money. So, he tried to steal the assets for paying his loan.

Showing a wallet address can be risky because doing so is revealing critical and potentially private information. Wallets are used to store and transfer cryptocurrency and are protected by passwords and private encryption keys. A wallet address is used to receive cryptocurrency and is the only information accessible to the public. When showing a wallet address to anyone, several risks can arise, such as using that information to manipulate or trick the person into making a cryptocurrency transfer. Fraudsters may falsify transactions or reverse the sequence of transactions. Additionally, it could cause the person to transfer their funds to a different address that they themselves control, giving clues to hackers and anyone who may be interested in stealing the cryptocurrencies.

Although a wallet address does not provide all the information hackers need to access the wallet, it can be a piece of the puzzle they need to gain access. If a wallet address is shared publicly, all transaction history associated with that address is also exposed.

For all these reasons, it is essential to keep the wallet address private and not share it recklessly. If you ever need to share your public address, it is important to do so only with people you trust and only after you have properly verified them. You should always be careful when displaying your wallet and ensure that your passwords and private keys are protected and secured.

The security issue is general, it is not only in the idea of having bitcoin, people expose themselves incorrectly, privacy is something that must be known how to manage, the fact of having bitcoin makes it dangerous due to the essence of quickly to accessing an asset "efficient" way, so security and going "anonymous" also implies being anonymous in the offline world, it is common sense. In the long run, if you are pretentious, snobbish, you will fall into the clutches of evil, thieves.

Some reason why the system is meant to be private and you don’t get much on an address that could be tied to you due to usage on forums and perhaps amongst peers/associates.
You can’t completely tell who is out there to do harm and it’s a world where everyone is for himself.
Family, is the closest people you would want to trust but, not everyone in a family would be good with you, not everyone would be happy about your progress and not so many would be cool with the influence and control you have over the family.
These could be enough reason to steer greed and possible harm.

I think another set of persons whom this could sound a good warning to are those who are out there teaching, organizing seminars and preaching their success stories. It not only motivates but puts you in the spotlight and you never can tell who is it in the crowd.

Some peoole always have that characteristics of intemedating people with what they have. Not only in crypto currency sometimes I wonder how somebody will be intimidating his fellow human being because of what he/she has. life should be a simple thing that everybody should understand. Sometimes we draw people's attention to ourselves. A man Got kidnapped by just telling his friends his achievements. and paid a huge sum of money for his Ransom.
People always want to dominate others and dignity and use means to increase it but they don't think that this might increase the risk for their life. Those people who are newly rich do such stupidity they want every person to know how much money they have. Why they are showing their assets to other, you are not making money for the people to know how much they are rich you make money to make your comfort zone and I think every person need to stay away from this type of preaching to others. What will happen if know your money, just comes in the eyes of the government and if Bitcoin is banned there then it would cause many other complications for you with risks to your life and your loving increase.

You can't avoid these days because they can flaunt their riches or boast using various social media channels.
But if you do really want a peaceful life where you don't need to always look over your shoulder, better be mum about your assets.
It is better to enjoy the fruit of your hard work with your immediate family. You don't need the praise of others to have a happy life.
Those who are very open in their socmed are indeed the usual targets of these fraudsters. They are just silently lurking around.

What you have explained is the reason why many people giving advice to other people that telling others what you have may/will cause problems for you. Not all the times will happen to other people on what happened to the person you heard or know from news. There are some people who do everything just to get what they want. What you have said that he might lose his life during that time may happen but luckily he did not lose his life and it may happen to someone else. My neighbor got robbed while they are sleeping even though they did not share/flaunt what they have or how much money they have so, that's why it is not advisable to do.

This is the most important thing we should be very mindful of because people knows how valuable bitcoin is and whenever they heard about bitcoin it's assumed that you are holding thousands of it without knowing is just a fraction or a unit of it. And again it's very bad to flaunt our wealth especially our digital currency to online people or those in media like x because you will start receiving some random messages about fake investment opportunities that could give you double of your money whenever you investment with them. This can likely happened over here but there are some exception, if only you can block such user after sending you first messages and you didn't respond to them and if they continue sending you then you can blocked them not to receive their messages again.

Maybe something like that wouldn't happen if the person who had a lot of cryptocurrency or Bitcoin holdings didn't talk about it, right? I don't have anything; in fact, no one knows what my holdings are so far in the crypto business that I live in.

Even my husband himself doesn't know anything, although the only thing he knows is that this is the source of income, but he still doesn't know anything. Except for a close friend who shared this with me, I even trust him more than my husband, not because I don't trust my husband.
But I also plan to tell my husband little by little what I'm doing here, all for something unexpected that will happen, of course.

Jealous - a certain behavior that make someone commit a crime even if it was their relatives and friends. A reason why we should not let people know that we are wealthy people and that we are holding a lot of Bitcoin for this will give interest to others. Perhaps, we can trust any of our relatives and friends but not to the fullest at least, we still leave a gap. We can't set aside that someday, any of them has an evil plan.

But what happened to OP's story, is probably that person is not a close relative to him. But still, he is wrong and he should not expose his Bitcoin to everyone even if it was his relative.

It's best to remain lowkey when the topic is all about how much Bitcoin you're holding. Because you don't know what's on the mind of these people even if they are your relatives.

You'll never know how they're going to react when they're in a situation that deals with financial hardships while you're there showing how much money you've got.

If they are in dire need, they could do the impossible. And just as these news below in the past, we should be careful not to get kidnapped and attacked by a $5 wrench.

Bitcoin To The Moon 📈📈📈
When people ask me, 'Do you have any bitcoin' I answer NO, just a few cents for fun and better to keep cash than BTC, for diversion.

So it is indeed a stupid thing when someone shows off bitcoin to many people, especially on social media with the catch that he has managed to invest a lot in bitcoin, it will actually be a terror for himself because he has revealed privacy about bitcoin ownership.

I would not be surprised now that there are still many crypto influencers always showing portfolios to their followers, this is a stupid act, but the fact is that human nature always wants to be careless by showing off its wealth, especially the popular bitcoin.
