If Mahwo Shetty said politics is war without blood shed, then I'd say it was then, check it now in some countries people do die when it comes to political games. If a party has a stronger candidate and he/she is likely to win and the opposition party can't stop that from happening then the next option is to eliminate that candidate.
All these happens, and innocent people do lose their lives all in the name of "I MUST win" so you can't say politics is a war without blood shed, I disagree with that.
Politicians would go to any length to make sure they achieve their goal.

@jamesborn the author mahwo shettu definition is faulty. Politics as a war without blood shed, is perfect definition but in practical to this modern day politics in Nigeria politics is a war with enough blood shed. Politicians kills for power, it's so pathetic we're in worse situation in Africa.

Politics was supposed to be a game that should be free and fair, where the masses should be given the right to choose who should represent them by their voting strength,
But today in our society politics is war just as you have said because of hunger for power, selfish interest and money, a politician today is ready to do anything humanly possible to exertain a governmental office, today politics involves blood shed, crises, corruption and war, because of the greed and interest of Politicians,
Sincerely speaking I don't think politics can ever be fair in our society despite how it's been defined, painful truth though..
People playing the game politics is different from the people defining it, so how will it be fair?

I like your definition of politics @Jet Cash because it really describes the political settings of my country. These puppet masters encourage the masses to come out and vote assuring them of the freedom to choose their leaders. But the Electoral Commission are their appointees which will make it very easy to manipulate the elections. Elections in my country are mere formalities because the puppet masters already know who they want to give power to. I have stopped voting for any political party or candidate because it is just a waste of time and energy. This is because the freedom to vote and be voted for is mortally wounded in my country.

I mean, that's just how this world works. The one who has more influence and money is the more powerful one. Which is why it never fails to feed the greed of most people. Influence and money really makes several politicians want to sit on the highest position they can get and never let go of it. While there are others that are truly concerned for the people, they don't get to high positions that much since they would have to disregard some of their morals just to get some sponsors on their political campaigns even if it means getting it through illegal means or from syndicates or high profile criminals. It may sound like something out of a movie but it really does happen in real life.

It's just sad to think that the very few politicians that have good intentions for the people either aren't given the opportunity to really serve the people or get corrupted by the environment they compete and become the same as the people that they used to really hate. sigh...

as Christians the bible told us that we are living in an evil world, we expect nothing good from bad leaders, we just live by our struggles and wait till we answer the call of death, but we must participate in the government of the state regardless of the state of things. we can keep trying till we get leaders of good conscience in power.

politics are so corrupt that once you get involve, you will be influenced immediately with corruption virus. then you will start being wicked to the people that voted you into power. they will keep the masses in poverty to cause crisis in the society. those ones that are loyal to them will be giving arms to fight those against them. creating madness among the youths yet they only share the common wealth among the few.
the young people must learn from the past, we must stand against politicians that will not empower us than just using us for trouble.

Alternatively you can perfectly live of politics if you manage to convince a very large number of people that you are not really mainstream, that they are smarted than others for not believing in proven facts - while defending well-known errors and conspiracy theories. So, basically, you will do great in politics if you tell people that they are actually not sheep, while actually treating them like sheep of the dumbest kind.

What people see in politics these days is about self interest, at least this is for the corrupt countries. They'll be there for years and won't even get replaced by new politicians that has a care for their country and people.

Well, it's just so happen that most citizens are used to the politics that where we're residing in because we're too little to speak and be heard by these big people as they say and best described being in power.

The reason why people follow politicians is, they aren't smart enough to think up results for themselves. The other reason is that they are too stupid to realize that the politicians are slick talkers, who only want to advance their own careers.

Sure, some politicians may start out as good people, but they wind up becoming corrupt just to get into leadership positions.

you didn't get it right, Op, it was Alexander pop that define politics as madness of the masses and benefits for the few. He was right, if you look at it from Africa view of politics. The masses kill and fight each other to show loyalty and to get their leaders into power. But the leaders are few enjoying the resources and fail to deliver the promises they had with the people. It's a total madness in Africa, the citizens keeping malice with each other because of a political parties. Party A will not talk to party B. They made political system like a secret society. In Africa party system that ought to be an interest group had turned to be a blood shed groups.

We, the citizens must learn and observe how political system works in our continent and practice it well.

But one day the river will overflow and they will have nowhere to run to and then the hunters will become the hunted because we cannot be enslaved by a few rogues forever.

I think some people become so disappointed and apolitical towards their local government and seek for alternatives in movements which embrace anarchy as fundamental value. Which can be dangerous, depending on the context of the nation.

There are good and bad politicians and itself, I find politics is a necessary evil for the society to function, because unfortunately, humankind is not perfect and since the beginning of civilization governance was necessary, to the point a great part of religion back then was to enforce order.

It's the one thing I've never been cool with. How the lives of a people, the civilization hoped to attain and attained is been determined by a game, q game where all fowl play can be summed up as corruption and nothing could be done about it most times especially when it is by the ruling party.

It's always up to the people to revolt and disagree to be subjugated by the games played by these politicians but, after several attempts without success, you see the masses hands getting weak and no one wants to put themselves in the line.
It becomes a patient thing, to wait for the next tenor which might come in 8years as somehow, the ruling party often gets re-elected through the very first means that they got into office.
