What is happening? They are that desperate to earn or get bitcoin? It is good that bitcoin is getting all over social media but I am not expecting that it will be this bad, even worse. As far as I know, there are no reports in the country that died because of that but someone was hospitalized because of the inhalation of the smoke on site. Take care, you guys.

Possibly they want to get some Bitcoin from the people and give a bad name to Bitcoin at the end. Even at that point that nobody died, requesting for Bitcoin was my first concerns because they eventually get into it and use Bitcoin as a ransom for every of their demands. Let the  world knows that Bitcoin is not use for illegal activities even though some individuals thought of it to be. To them: Bitcoin can be acquire through buying and trading, I mean let them earn it legitimately and not through crocks.

Damn!
This person is crazy, they really are going too far and doesn't care even if they harm people. This isn't the purpose of bitcoin, for blackmailing, not it's not for that.
I thought that it's just email blasting or email spamming but this is for real, a real bomb, small or not as long as it's hurting people this is truly wrong. He will be caught soon, I hope.

There have been criminals sending bombing mails and demanding Bitcoin for them before. If this Netherlands situation is seen as a negative thing for Bitcoin and people start to FUD it again through "it's widely used in illegal activities and by criminals"-like statements, that's a plain stupid move. Almost anything valuable is and can be used in illicit activity. Bitcoin is only better because they can simply send an address without anyone knowing its source/owner, rather than demanding fiat payment.
Yes, that's what would be the impact to the people that doesn't really understand bitcoin. And it will affect the polices too and might think of bitcoin is truly like that and made for that purpose.
Very disappointing people, they should've done this act if they only want to have bitcoin. They need to earn it honestly.

After reading this post I am just thinking why the attacker/bomber is doing such a criminal acts.
It's either;
  • He lose too much in Gambling,
  • or, He lose huge in Trading.

A depressed individual will do such thing like these. The guy is too desperate to get some bitcoins. How sad it turns out to be like this. It's hard to speculate things, but I do hope authorities may have a trace already to know who that person. It will make such a huge problem if the bomb will gonna happen again and many person will get injured ( i hope not). He used bitcoin in a wrong way that is why it also ruined his life.

Does the First incident last 2015 succeed?i mean the Bomber got what he wants?or whats the outcome of that case?mind to extend the News and trivia mate?

The perpetrator that time was arrested and should by now be still in prison:
https://www.dutchnews.nl/news/2015/10/man-50-and-teenager-15-arrested-in-jumbo-bomb-case/

most likely the culprit is someone from the bitcoin haters group because by committing crimes like this and linking bitcoin in it, I think this is a good opportunity for bitcoin haters to make bad news about bitcoin and they hope that the government will prohibit people from using bitcoin in the country them to avoid various other crimes.

Yeah yeah, there is always someone who is a bitcoin hater doing so
Everyone that scams via bitcoin must be a bitcoin hater, is the evil gubbermint who tries to stop bitcoin, from Karpeless to Ross Ulbricht everyone was a CIA agent trying to paint bitcoin in a negative way.

Wake up, bitcoin is not some pure virgin princess that can't be used for bad things. It can and in most cases, it's far easier for criminals to deal with this than with cash. That's reality, deal with it! Nothing changes!

I don't think so.He doesn't care about Bitcoin at all.He is just a sociopath,who wants easy money.
I think he is really stupid and insane, because nobody would pay him anything, because that doesn't guarantee that he will stop with this terrorist tactic. The authorities don't negotiate with terrorists and they don't pay them ransoms.By the way,I think it can be really easy to catch him. Those paper mails can contain his fingerprints,so the police could identify him.

This is also not the first time someone asked for Bitcoin in Netherlands. Almost the same incident happened last 2015, both were bombing things and asking for bitcoin.

for this Recent case i think Police can have idea and lead about this suspect because nowadays?the process of finding criminals are very high tech and this can be track down at any chances if he continues to Send and explode Bombs.

very alarming, actually quite a lot of criminal cases committed by persons with the use of a bitcoin background. My personal view on cases like this is stupid, because the consequences and what the criminals might get is not comparable (that's if they get the bitcoin). and even if these cases continue, the impact on the market demand will decrease.

It is not good when bitcoin gets this kind of attention, all this leads to is hastily made decisions by politicians that lead to incorrect regulation and rules that slow down growth and adoption.

And I hope they won't. It will be a mistake if they try to lay that regulations since the people here are the wrong ones and not the bitcoin that is just being used for terrorizing people. Though it is really possible for bitcoin to be regulated more strictly by the government is this stretched out.

What the hell, why would anyone do this? This is a criminal activity.

Doesn't he know that most people he asks for ransom from have no idea what bitcoin is? Sounds like the guy is mentally unstable because he would continue doing these things as victims exchange their money for bitcoin.

This is the main reason why the government is having a problem accepting bitcoin as a legitimate cryptocurrency that people can use for their commercials. Because some people are taking advantage of the anonymity the Bitcoin was offering. Probably in this part we should agree that AML and KYC are really needed. It is clear that a larger percentage of bitcoin users do not use Bitcoin for their crimes and evasion from the government such as taxes. But considering the small percentage of the people who use it for crimes is quite alarming enough for the authorities to prevent. That guy who does mail bombing is really stupid. Probably we should teach him how to earn money in a hard way. After him being convicted to jail.

What can you expect with people these days? they are capable on doing anything for the sake of money and they don't care on how it will affect someone's life. I won't be surprise if that person end up suffering the consequences of his actions because he let his greediness be a foundation of his decisions and actions. I don't understand why people will stoop down that low for bitcoin, let's say that bitcoin can make him rich but does he realize the trauma he can possibly give to people? the fear of being in danger? Maybe their conscience don't let them sleep at night so they will realize their mistakes, anyway be careful and stay safe everyone.

I thought the "bombing letter" was like the SMS type where people bombing text messages to other people.
That is how I understand the title. Maybe you should change it. But I think it is not off topic since bitcoin is being stained here once again.

It is the safest method without much of a trace. That dude whoever do this is a coward.
I just hope people are already aware of what bitcoin is really is and not just a tool for receiving money using evil deeds.
Sorry, bitcoin.

There will always be things like that in the business world, especially businesses that do have good prospects like bitcoin, not a surprise if they have bad actions just to get a few bitcoins this actually makes the name bitcoin can be bad for some people who are indeed new to bitcoin.

An anonymous person in Netherlands is bombing letters just to ask Bitcoin for him to stop what he's doing. This mailbomber wants Bitcoin and he won't stop unless he gets the Bitcoin payment he wants.

First bombing happens in Amsterdam when a worker tosses a package when he heard a hissing sound while arranging the mail. Fortunately no one got injured with the explosion. The second bombing happens less than an hour after the first bombing in Kerkrade. Although no one also got injured, there's a note asking for bitcoin to prevent further bombings.

With the investigation of the police, they said that both bombings are connected yet they have no link about the person who's exploding things up. They also haven't revealed the amount of Bitcoin the bomber was asking, but they're still doing further investigation.

This is also not the first time someone asked for Bitcoin in Netherlands. Almost the same incident happened last 2015, both were bombing things and asking for bitcoin.

It's a little alarming that they would really go that far just to ask for bitcoin. I don't think it's a big explosion but they can still hurt other people and they're damaging the image of Bitcoin and cryptocurrency as well. I don't know why would they do that because obviously, the police won't just send them Bitcoin so the explosion would stop. Because if they will do that, then everyone might just do the same in order to receive bitcoin so they'll just keep on investigating until they caught the suspect.

PS: I'm gonna delete this if it was off-topic

This can give a bad impression for bitcoin indeed. I am upset that there are people that was desperate enough to commit that kind of unlawful behaviour. There are a lot of ways to earn bitcoin we just need to work for it.
Also, does the bomber last 2015 succesfully get bitcoins? Does he get caugt?

This is how desperate this person is because he would go as far as bombings just to get the bitcoin he wanted. This type of action will only give a bad impression regarding bitcoins in the sense that other people would think bitcoin can make people crazy and do stupid things. I just wish he’ll get arrested, if he truly wants bitcoin he need to work for it and not disturb other people just for him to get one.

Much as I see it as a trap the government or the police shouldn't pay such dubious individual all in the name of bombing in exchange. This would generate mixed reactions towards Bitcoin and cryptocurrency in general. Maybe they are cooking some attacks through news media against Bitcoin if they went ahead to pay in bitcoin to the bomber.

Let the police swiftly go into investigation and fetch them out from their hidden, who knows, it might even be bitcoin hatters that want the ransom. Bitcoin is not for illegal activities even though choice belongs to individuals involve spending the coin.

Exactly. A fiat "hater" could easily do thesame thing and demand for cash. I guess an attacker could also use this to justify cashless transactions if a Country is still cash based.

There are available ideas that can be used to deal with crime money without violating Bitcoin core values/features. Values like censorship resistant, privacy/anonymity, immutablity, trustless/permissionless transactions, transparency etc are very important. I think you don't deny people this important rights or values if they aren't guilty of any/serious crime.

There's a possibility that the bomber last 2015 and the bomber right now are linked to each other. Or the bomber now wants to copy the bomber in 2015 to get bitcoin?

I want to know if the bomber in 2015 was caught? And want to know if the bomber in 2015 gains some bitcoin in this kind of act?

This is a very desperate move if in case the bombing are connected to the person who are asking for bitcoin just to stop their actions.

Only terrorist can pull this kind of action or an opposition of the government behind this incident and they are using some black hat hackers to deliver the message. What is worst is that they are using bitcoin as a means of payment which can hardly damage the image of bitcoin.

But if this attack is from the terrorist they will admit it.
