What the fuck is the internet?

If we are making merit a crypto, I would like to volunteer to organise a coin burn to make merit even more valuable. Send all your excess merits to me, and I'll make sure they are burned. Here's a (/s) just in case anyone honestly thought I was being serious.

You want a serious answer though? If you make merit a crypto, people can buy it, and it therefore defeats the purpose of merit. The end.

If someday merit become a crypto, the bitcointalk forum will be abundant with tons of shits (one more time, almost the same as before merit system launched and even worse).
As you said, merit crypto will defeat the original objectives of merit system, which launched by Theymos to keep spammers stucked at lower ranks.
It is a terrible scenario if merit is a crypto.

But why? As much as ICOs try to make you believe it, cryptography and blockchain is not a magical solution for anything. In fact, it's the other way around: anything that can be done without a blockchain, should be done without a blockchain!

I wish we could slap this piece of sense in to 99% of ICO and altcoin developers/investors/blindly-throwing-their-money-away-idiots. Just look at some of the nonsense you can find on here: https://www.icoalert.com. Blockchain for Dentists! Blockchain for Uber! Blockchain for Wikis! Blockchain for Fantasy Football! Utter nonsense.

I think OP just ate a poop of a cat that's why he came to this idea.
Why would someone make Merit as a Token or crypto?
What the fuck is the internet?

I agree, looks like OP doesn't received any Merits yet that's why he is giving this idea to make Merit as Crytpo so that he can buy a lot of Merits just to rank up to Hero. Of course, presenting this idea to other "merit starving" members will make them agree to the OP. It seems like OP is asking for those Merit beggar's support Cheesy Good idea OP. I hope for the success of your merit ICO. See you with a sparkling Negative Trust in your profile soon (if in case that happens.)  Smiley

Merit is fine the way it is.
Any complaints Mr. OP?

I'm talking about cryptographic implementation of merit rather than fully closed system

Thanks for having the patience to answer the retarded fucking OP

I've just burned those two merits. Honest. There's no need for you to check. All other merits in existence have just gone up in value by 0.0001 satoshis.

No - the Internet was created for people to exchange pictures of cats, and one of the failings of Bitcoin Talk is that it doesn't have a cat picture exchange board. Smiley

There's got to be a cat picture thread in off-topic surely?

I think argument and discusson is good, but it is better if one can avoid personal insults.

I agree but it is also inevitable.

I agree that the OP has not made a clear point, and I find it difficult to understand the benefits to be gained from making the simple concept of merits into a complex blockchain based trading resource. Of course, it may be that this would be the only way that some people could gain any merit. Would it be based on PoW or PoS?

I'll leave you to work out the meaning of PoS.

The main point the OP hasn't addressed is how it could possibly achieve the objective of the merit system as stated in the official announcement thread.

I'm hoping that this system will increase post quality by:
 - Forcing people to post high-quality stuff in order to rank up. If you just post garbage, you will never get even 1 merit point, and you will therefore never be able to put links in your signature, etc.
 - Highlighting good posts with the "Merited by" line.

Any method of obtaining merit not based on an objective opinion of the value of a post undermines that.

(I like the idea of PoS though......)

Edit: I should have thought of this:

The forum I'm sure was not established for members to argue or insult each other.
I'm pretty sure that is what the entire interwebz is for.

have you thought about making merit an actual cryptocurrency/token?
what speaks for or against this?
Never happen, because it is against the original objective of merit system.
Theymos will never do this, and won't let it happen somehow.

what speaks for or against this?

Considering you are making the suggestion (for nnnnnth time) wouldn't it be an idea if you gave your reasons first? Then people could explain to you why it is so stupid.

Guys, stop arguing, please. The forum I'm sure was not established for members to argue or insult each other.

Everyone should be entitled to express his opinion, even if we believe it sounds dumb. It's not for us to say if it is or not.

ZhuldyzKaladinova perhaps could better explain his idea?

I'm curious to see what he has in mind as a proposal.

Have you ever thought about reading information regarding a subject before posting about it? Have you ever thought of using the search button?

Stay on topic, this is not the chit chat.

Chit chat? Are you a retard?

Search merit, read threads, punch yourself in the face then come back here and say sorry for wasting our time

Again, stop spamming the thread with chitchat. If you have something to say on-topic I'm all ears. Also you are not an authority to tell me what to do.

What I am saying mr retard is this has been discussed before

Ok thanks TMAN. Linking to it would help

I'm with TMAN on this - did you think of looking up the word 'merit' in the dictionary before opening this thread?

Yes of course I did. I'm not totally stupid.

I'm talking about cryptographic implementation of merit rather than fully closed system
