Madoff is still in jail? What slap on the hand?

Maybe he was thinking of Conrade Black instead of Madoff since Madoff is still a lifer last time I checked.
On October 13, 2009, it was reported that Madoff experienced his first prison yard fight with another senior citizen inmate

So, this guy is not in jail yet.

Is there any penalty going to be apply to him?
Last thing I saw, he is living in an expensive apartment in Japan. I do not think he will go to jail, probably he has some protection by the Japanese government - as clearly he should have a trial.

Anyone see what's wrong with our society?

Small time scammer get caught will go to jail, big time scammer like Mark Karpeles and Madoff type get a slap in the hand?

Money talks is what seems to be the keyword
If you can pay to get out of jail and have enough money to push around things happen.
But yes there is something wrong with society in that regard.

I suggest taking out the forward slash, plus and equal signs and see if it's an encoded message, contenting it's not a signature thingy.

Those were base64 encoded strings of some binary data.

It COULD be a signature, it could be an encrypted message, who knows really. Lots of things are base64 encoded including bitcoin signatures.

But you CANNOT verify the signature without the text so tweeting them without the text you want to sign would be useless - hence why I suspect its something else other than a bitcoin signature.

No one really knows what happend yet...  If someone came into a gold vault with a bunch of dudes and weapons and took all the gold would you arrest the guy that owned the vault...?

However.. if a guy came to the vault.. and you opened it and let him take everything.. well...

Anyone know what this is?

That's the signature of a message.  It's proof that some text existed before the tweet.

Example of a message, address and signature (taken from brainwallet.org)
Quote
-----BEGIN BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----
This is an example of a signed message.
-----BEGIN SIGNATURE-----

-----END BITCOIN SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Yep it looks like Karpeles tweeted a signed message to someone
Looks like the interested party recieved it so he removed the tweet
(We may know what it is later perhaps like 3 to 6 months from now lols)

Why the hell would he use twitter for that? When he could use email/telegraph/fax/another account not linked to him/cell phone/etc?

Maybe he just bored and posted some nonsense, so people around the internet would waste time trying to guess what he posted?

If it is legit, I also just believe it is a signature in order to verify some text or message really originated from him/his account. Why not send it via DM though... Then again the other party would need to follow you...
Verification through private key signing on a centralized site? Oh the irony Cheesy

This moron already cost enough people their money. He should crawl under a rock and get off any social media. I'm actually surprised no one tried to physically harm him. If I had lost thousands I would be all over his case.

In short I agree he's just trying to be cool

Reasons I can think of to sign a message:
  • Prove ownership/control of a bitcoin address.  This wouldn't have required that he publicize the signature. He could have simply sent the message, address and signature privately. For that reason, I do not believe that this was the likely purpose.
  • Prove at a later date that a message was written prior to him posting the signature.  By posting the signature, he is providing a publicly verifiable proof that an as of yet unpublished message was created prior to a specific date/time.  At a later date, the message could be revealed along with the bitcoin address that was used to sign with.

edit...
The most likely explanation is that he enjoys being the center of attention and this is just nerd trolling.

It could be anything really. It's not likely to be a signed message because you still need the message to verify it which he did not tweet.

I'd like to try and find out what it was though I can't find the original text and copying it from the screenshot is a bad idea as I can't tell if those are small L's or I's or 1's etc.

If someone can find the text of the tweets please post them here!
