I didn't want to offer a service. I wanted a one-off purchase of Bitcoins, and I thought I would see if there was any interest in buying already registered .com domain names.

Users on bitcointalk generally aren't interested in buying domains unless they are really unique, so that may be why. What sections did you try posting in?

I think you are right. Most enquiries come from Google or direct navigation in my experience. The real advantage of Bitcoin in the world of domain name sales is the possibility of using multi-sigs as a form of escrow. I'd like to explore this, and I guess this is why I posted a sales thread.

There already is a Service Announcements section (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=84.0). Shouldn't that provide you with a place to publish about your service without getting cluttered by all the "earn a penny a day" chat? Though the announcements seem a tad cluttered too.
Thats the place, if you have a website based service. Well I guess anyone with a free domain can make a thread in that section and no one would raise any objections.

I figured you'd announce important information about your service in there and that the Service section is for the banter about services... Maybe I got it wrong.
You announce "Website services" in Service announcements, talk about them in "Service discussion" and offer a forum based/only service in the services board.

It seems that the trading boards do get flooded with certain type of offers. Most seem pretty suspect - double your coins, or have Bitcoin need $5 PayPal seemfairly common. Also I hate those blobby thread titles, and I assume that anyone posting them is a scammer - that's probably an unfair generalisation, but it's the impression that I get.

I tried a couple of trade threads, but didn't get any responses, so I gave up. I've come to the conclusion that the best way to find a trade partner is to use your sig space.

I sent another message a couple of days ago. No reply again.

I think it's very bad for this forum that the administrator doesn't even reply to questions. Rude, to.

theymos is very busy; he must receive tons of PM's a day, with some from spammers and scammers. Try PM'ing Badbear and see if you get a response. If you don't, try waiting a day or two and try again. Don't spam though, as that's annoying. Good luck!

No reply from Mods ?

Right now 90% of threads on the first page of the services board are campaigns.

I wouldn't be against it as the campaigns do constantly dwarf all the others, but it's theymos you'll need to convince. I did suggest it as a possibility recently but got no response.

I have my video agency's main thread in the services section, and quite a lot of customers find us that way. We make videos for blockchain businesses exclusively.

To bad it only stays on first page for a couple of hours, since all those signature or "sign up here to get X" threads get a ton of replies.

I suggest a simple fix ; a "campaigns" child board. That way people can find other services more easily.

Jay or nay ?

I agree with the OP, there aren't just the signature campaign,
There can be included also the twitter campaigns, avatar campaigns etc.

I'd say between the amount of campaigns and also users having 3-4 threads they bump with their services(no offense but roslinpl and another guys design threads) that's its entirely possible for other service threads to get lost in the mix within a couple hours.

I would agree to having a child board for campaigns personally. Hell they just made a board for collectibles and ppl browse the service section just as much as digital goods

There's only this much signature campaigns in existence. And they're services anyway so they rightfully belong to that board.

There's no point and making a change is probably not worthwhile IMO. What do ya say, Theymos?

It's funny that nobody gives any real arguments why not to do this.

"Because it's not a problem, the amount of signature campaigns are limited" is the best I've heard.

I just counted, and right now there are 15 threads about campaigns on the first page of services. I think that's a pretty typical amount, half of the threads are campaigns.

I'm not just talking about signature campaigns, I'm talking about threads where you get a small amount of Bitcoin for completing a certain action. The action is usually posting here on BTCT, or Retweeting something.

Those replies are all super low content, posts like " sign me up " which could be taken care of in a PM.

It pushes the threads servces that are more vital to the Bitcoin community of the front page in a matter of an hour or two.

Does this mean that the only way I can now get my business noticed is to buy ad space here ?

It's not so much the amount of threads, it's the way they dominate the first page, because they tend to get a lot of replies.

To find actual services as the board title implies, you have to go back through several pages.

... and most people don't do that.

It benefits the Bitcoin economy enormously if businesses / freelancers who accept Bitcoin get a board where they are easy to find.

I would agree. Some sort of subdivision would certainly be helpful.
Considering that the ecosystem is growing, the space will get even more crowded and chaotic in the future

30 or so threads isn't enough to clutter a section. If the situation gets out of hand (such as all the ponzi schemes/HYIP's that popped up in the gambling section at one point.) the mods will probably create a new subforum without hesitation. For now, I don't think we should worry.
