I have it working, but I need to manually add peers every time I install the wallet in a new computer.

To be honest, it's ridiculous that coin wallets supposedly come with an IRC-based discovery mechanism, but it almost never works and it is necessary to add peers manually. That is quite a barrier to adoption of altcoins. If you download a wallet and it doesn't work out of the box, most people will think it doesn't work at all!

Thought I would share what I found to get maxcoin wallet synching.
An important step to get it working is that the maxcoin.conf file must be moved into the user's App folder:-
- On Windows -> C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\MaxCoin\maxcoin.conf
- On Linux -> ~/.maxcoin/maxcoin.conf
- On MAC -> /Users//Library/Application\ Support/MaxCoin/maxcoin.conf

These were my steps to get a working wallet:
1 - unzip the download
2 - run it ONE time, wait 1 minute, and then close it.
3 - move the maxcoin.conf file to one of the above folders dependent on the OS you are using.
3 - Edit maxcoin.conf to match the following AND change the password
Code: [Select]

# Seed nodes
addnode=maxexplorer.cloudapp.net
addnode=maxcoin.cloudapp.net
addnode=maxcoinus.cloudapp.net
addnode=maxcoinasia.cloudapp.net
addnode=213.179.202.19
addnode=91.121.8.25
addnode=91.121.8.25
addnode=wombat.dar.sh

# Enable RPC
server=1

# RPC information
rpcuser=maxcoinrpc
rpcpassword=

# Mining (set to 1 to enable)
gen=1

4 - save the file, use save as - select All File format then save
5 - Run the wallet and it should start to synch.

hope this helps!

I have unclicked  'Hide extensions for known filetypes'..

I still get the same message :

Maxcoin has encountered a problem. it needs to be stopped.

And when it is open after restart , there is no sync.

You could try downloading the coino.config file from the link below (their website provides a ready made one).

http://www.coino.org/coinoconfig.zip

First unzip the config file. Does the .conf ending of your MaxCoin.conf file look exactly the same as the .conf ending of the coino.conf file?

If the endings both match and there is no .txt ending anywhere then the problem is either in the addnode= lines in the .conf file or it's something besides the .conf file.

If there is a .txt ending you could try pasting the addnod contents of the MaxCoin.conf file into the coino.conf file and clicking save (not save as). Afterwards you could try just very slowly clicking the coino.conf file twice. The coino bit should highlight in blue. You can then delete coino and type in MaxCoin instead.

Hopefully that should get you a working MaxCoin.conf

Like I said. Delete everything in ApsData\Roaming\MaxCoin except wallet.dat. Download windows client from the maxcoin website an unzip. Create the MaxCoin.conf as above.

You need to unclick the 'Hide extensions for known filetypes'.

Then when you rename the Maxcoin.conf the .txt will be shown - just delete the just change the MaxCoin.conf.txt to Maxcoin.conf. You do that by either right clicking on the filename and select 'rename' or left clicking on filename slowly, twice - first click filename turns blue 2nd click filename can be edited.

It should then work fine.

You might need to delete everything in the AppData\roaming\maxcoin folder except the wallet.dat. Redo the Maxcoin.conf as below;

If this doesn't work then you might need to unzip the windows wallet again and use that.

Your computer may not be set to show file extensions. I am using windows 8, so it might look a bit different on another windows version. If you can find the folder options in your control panel you can disable the hide file extensions setting. The red arrow in the image shows where to click.

After that you can see all the file extensions, and if you slowly click a text file twice you can change the extension from .txt to .conf

http://s29.postimg.org/y493kqz3b/ext.png

I have followed all your steps with little success. I have windows 8.

1. I have downloaded the wallet.
2. I started the wallet and then closed it.
3. I then went to to the MAXCOIN folder in the roaming forlder.
4. How do u create the maxcoin.conf file? I right cliked on empty space and and from the options , choose New--> Text document. Is that the right way. In the text document that opens up, I have copy pasted all the nodes exactly as you gave. Do I have to change the password field to something else or do i leave it as ' rpcpassword=supersecurepassword ' as in your post.
5. When I rename the text document as maxcoin.conf i dont get the option of all files. I have tried to open the notepad separately and copy the nodes in that and then did this--> file--> save as--> maxcoin.conf under all files. but when I save it it defaults to .txt extention. How do I solve this problem. My path is this C:\Users\..........\Desktop\wallet-windows\Maxcoin.conf.txt . even if i delete the .txt, it doesnt change. let me know where I am going wrong and help this to get syncing.

I keep getting the message that maxcoin has encountered a problem and has to be stopped. this happens since I introduced the maxcoin.conf file into the maxcoin folder. The maxcoin.conf remains in .txt extention and I am unable to delete the .txt option. please help.

I have changed the folder options to show the file extentions.

Many thanks for help in advance.

Make sure that your config file is actually called "maxcoin.conf" not "maxcoin.conf.rtf" or some other extension. As soon as I removed the ".rtf" extension it worked. Also be prepared to wait all day for the sync to update the first time.

In the same folder as the .conf replace your peers.dat with this peers.dat www.cryptosextoys.com/maxcoin/peers.zip

Make sure to give it some time to sync! It takes ages...................And I mean ages to start syncing.

THANKS for your job!THANKS!

I'm not sure about that. It works without the config shit for some coins, but not for others. I haven't tried max yet, but you could give it a go.
ok thanks

It works on my windows 8 laptop. It should work on yours. Just make sure you save the wallet.dat file from each wallet with any money in. If you lose the wallet.dat file there is no way to get your money back. I think I might have just lost one of mine and it's a downer.

I mean without doing the config file shit? just download the wallet and open it?
