I am a Bounty hunter. I have some activity but no merit.
There is a slim chance you will ever get merit if you continue to only post bounty reports.

It's dependents on your quality of your posts.

It sure does. There are countless topics on how to get merit, you can easily find them if you want to.

With a little time and effort everything can be achieved. This thread serves as an example and shows how many people self-ranked themselves. For me, it took me around two months two reach Full Member rank starting in July.

Now I know from different members posts that active is not a fact to receive merits. It's dependents on your quality of your posts.

I think new merit system is helpful to find out spamming

It is absolutely true that you need a quality post in order to have a justified rank. We cannot just post something that is nonsense and we do not have the right to complain what are rank is. Just remember, the merit system is a fair system to remain the reliability and the quality of our post.

It takes time and effort, just keep doing it with passion.
I'm glad that new users like yourself are starting to see that the merit system was created to encourage people to make quality posts and give something back in order to rank-up.

It does take more time and effort but doing so you'll also increase your knowledge in the cryptocurrency world and that's the whole point of this forum after all.

I like these lists here.  Newbie bounty spammers are constantly complaining that it's too hard to rank up, but here's solid evidence that anyone can do it if they put in enough *quality* effort.

That's my main goal to reach this!
And it takes time to doing that but it can be done !
Never give up !

I was just thinking of a way to reward users by doing so.
"Merit" is the reward already. It's an amazing system: I didn't need any from the beginning, and yet, I want to have more of it.

Maybe a new rank would make more sense then, something like "Self Made Member" maybe?
Ultimately, we should all become self-made members Smiley

What worries me though is that the most merited users have only received 4 times that amount (I'm not counting theymos as a user), and that just 100 users have received enough Merit to keep up with Activity. Those 100 users include users who got their merit through abuse.
When I look at half this amount (0.5 Merit per Activity), there are 250 users who have reached this. If I scroll down the list further, I still see many names I recognize (and many unknown names too). I think many of those users shouldn't be restricted by Merit, which implies there isn't enough Merit going around.
Yes, that's right, merit is usually not enough and merit sources tend to pass along low amounts of it. If the amounts would increase I think the re-circulation would work better and would reach more users.

Bad idea, that can be gamed. The current system of requiring both a long time commitment to the forum as well as quality posts is a good combination.
Example: nullius! He posted for a few months only, then disappeared. If he would have stayed one month longer, he would have been Legendary in your proposal. But he lacks the long term commitment.

Merit was designed to be accumulated at approximately the same rate as activity.

Maybe there would be a good idea to automatically rank up to Legendary in case you reach 2k merit and not have the required activity. @theymos, what do you say?

So are we "Self Made Hero-to-be-on-time" then? Wink I need 5 more months to reach the activity for Hero, and if all goes with the same tempo as til now, looks like till then I'll be having enough merit for Legendary which in terms of activity will be in 2 years, somewhere in 2020.. o_0
Yeah... hang on buddy Smiley You're going to rank-up in no time.

Merit was designed to be accumulated at approximately the same rate as activity.

So there are a lot of Legendary that have not yet received 1000 merits (other than their airdropped merits).

It is expected to take at least 2 - 3 years to rank to Legendary so for Legendaries it would be unfair to say that they don't have the self made merit.

If a legendary received around 200- 300 merits by now they would be well on their way to being "self made" by the time the 2-3 years are up.
[...]
Totally agree. These stats are not made to upset any people who are not "self made" yet. But a way to prove to others, who are skeptical on the merit system, that it is actually possible to rank-up and gather large amounts of merit.
Getting 1k merits is no easy task and some people have managed to do it, not to mention that there are 19 Heros & 74 Sr. Members that are "self made" and a lot of those people are the current Legendary members. So, they haven't got the Legendary rank for nothing.
I have edited the OP, after reading it again I see how the message could be perceived in a different way by some readers.

Some really good content was posted over a number of years but only the "famous historic content" gets merited.

Most merit is given to new content.
I would say this is partially true, as I see there are a lot of posts from the past that were merited.
For the majority of cases you're right, older posts did not get the visibility, thus were not merited.

Also people often have bursts on a forum  (Periods where they post a lot) . So they may be taking it easy at the moment.

Though there are people that has made their account to rank up but I bet these members are an extraordinary or genius when it comes to technicalities of this forum and could be able to produce high quality post from the technical aspects of this forum more likely IT experts and computer programming genius just one post for that aspect they could gather more or less 10 merits per post. So we could expect that achieving full member rank would only be a 10 post for them.

All ones have same rights to compose, then publish their threads, show off their ideas. All deserved merit threads will catch attention of forum users, sometimes got merits from readers, sometimes don't get them, but it's not too bad. At least, highly qualitied threads have higher odds to catch attention of readers. That's enough.

In my humble opinion, "Self-made Legendary" means the user has both the required Merit and Activity.
Agreed. Activity is important too, it takes a lot of dedication to post here for a rough 3 years to gain 1k activity.

At this time, activity is not available in the Piggy's tool so, could not take it into account. He said he's going to include it so, I'll be creating more elaborate lists when available.

There are about 5k "self made" members so, I think the newbies that are complaining are just the spammers, not the ones doing good posts.
Didn't want to add those metrics since I considered earning 10 merits trivial.

I recently read a topic where there was a discussion about the users who have earned enough merit and have therefore earned their rank.
Is this the place where that discussion held Wink

Can you guess the rank?? It's my own creation and I called it Elite Legendary
How about self-made Legendary?

I was curious to see how would the user ranks look like if we were to remove the airdropped merit that was given to existing higher ranked users on Jan 24th by default, if they already had an account that was ranked Member & up.
Good job OP. I am also thinking about this idea a while and it's nice to see you make that list. I think this "earned merit" concept also has two sides. By just considering the earned merits only would not determine whether those particular users "self-made" rank. Some of those users would gain more merits than the newly registered users (users registered after Jan 24th) for their old posts if the merit system would be implemented earlier. So as a fact we can't just compare the users having a lot of earned merits with the early legendaries at least in some cases. Other side of that fact is also true because some of the so-called legendaries would not be able to rank up even full member status if the merit system implemented earlier.

In my humble opinion, "Self-made Legendary" means the user has both the required Merit and Activity. Satoshi can't be one of those, as he hasn't posted in 8 years.
Actually, with all due respect, Satoshi, he shouldn't be on this list. @theymos and @LoyceV are the first two self-made legendaries

I wholeheartedly disagree.

I am currently the 25th most merited poster on the forum, having earned 498 merit at time of writing. I am not an IT expert, a programmer, or a genius. I certainly don't think I'm an extraordinary poster. The only reason I'm a good poster is because the bar is set so low by the thousands of spammers dragging down the average.

My advice to newbies looking for merit is always the same - read far, far more than you post, and only post at all if you have an original, coherent thought that hasn't been said 100 times before.

I was just curios about this one that has 100 merit with newbie account cool newbie 100 merit here rank seems questionable.

Just kidding, but it's really interesting to get tons of self-made Newbies due to the latest upgrade of the forum's rank requirements which requires at least one merit to be a Junior Member.

I bet those days were lucky days for some members here that has got default merit since they had complied already the activity that was being required to rank up  not until the implementation of the merit system which other members could hardly rank up then. Man, I lucked out when I made Legendary.  Not only did I have to wait until I had an activity of 1023 (or thereabouts), but I achieved the rank right before the merit system was implemented.  It's pure luck that I'm not still a Hero member.  Earning 1000 merits takes a hell of a lot of time.
