OK I did the dirty and found the top 20 members for both categories. Perhaps LoyceV was just being nice enough not to single them out, but let's admit it, we all want to know who's at the top  Cheesy

When I started reading the topic, I thought: who is at the top?  Roll Eyes
As I don't have much time, I wanted to ask if anyone had already done this analysis. Well, it looks like you answered my thoughts.  Tongue

LoyceV thanks for another good compilation of information.

What's your problem with the OP? .

As I asked the OP I'll ask you: Why cause conflict where there was none?

The OP mentioned me by name in this thread therefore I have a right of reply. Read the rest of the thread - others have also questioned why they have been mentioned.

It appears that "deleted posts" also includes posts deleted from self-moderated threads, and posts deleted by the poster themselves.

For a few of the most successful short posters, there's something to be said for eloquently getting your point across in as few words as possible. For example, jojo69 is famous for posting just memes, and when he does use words its usually not a whole lot. When he wasn't going on a verbal tirade, Phinnaeus Gage could also be eloquent, frequently posting memes as well, and then of course there's ChartBuddy.

If you have spare time and resources, it then would be interesting to know who's best at long posts.
Let’s put a threshold at 2,000 characters, commands excluded.
I have a suspect on who's winning in the “wall of text” category. JJG, of course
No need to spend time on that, JJG wins this.

Did you really spend the weekend conjuring up yet more statistics so you have yet more threads you can endlessly bump ?

What's your problem with the OP? If you don't find his threads interesting I don't know what you're doing commenting. We have a guy on my local board who has also made a few threads about stats that he bumps, weekly I think. Do you dislike him too?

The Forum is kind-of-falling-apart with that kind of mentality - wouldn't you agree?

I don't.

Nice job, OP. I believe that despite the criticisms, some in the forum will find this data useful.

SPQRCoin received 0/132=0% Merit for deleted posts and 0/132=0% Merit for short posts

Well that tells me nothing.  Why post it?

Timelord2067 received 21/1160=1.81% Merit for deleted posts and 1/1160=0.08% Merit for short posts

So what you're saying is that of the 34 posts of mine that have been deleted by mods (not counting the ones you ironically deleted in a thread you started about how hard-done-by-you-feel-you-are for your own posts being deleted in someone else's' thread) that more than half were meritorious - yet the mods "felt it necessary" to delete.

The Forum is kind-of-falling-apart with that kind of mentality - wouldn't you agree?

what's the significance of this data scrapping/ thread?
Someone found a use for it:
~
Thanks to LoyceV that made me rediscover this gem.

I've only got two or three deleted posts anyway.
I've deleted some of my own Merited posts, and some have been deleted from self-moderated topics. None of this is bad by default Smiley

Regarding my short posts, these are definitely from WO, which most probably contains a meme or a chart.
I (tried to) exclude all codes from the post, so images don't count as "post length".

by any chance do you use a script for automated posting? because I don't think it's possible to do all of this manually, if so can you share the script?
I type really, really fast. I once applied at Google for typing 32,000 words a minute.

Also top 50 would be interesting.
I know, it's tempting, but the data doesn't really allow for easy sorting:
I won't do any other sorting than the current order

I join the request, although I thought that since you have done the work of creating this thread, another presentation would be more enjoyable, such as ordering them from highest to lowest, or alphabetically, to better find who we want to look for.
Maybe I can leave this to the reader, here's the raw data: Merit_earned_on_deleted_or_short_posts.txt

does this mean that
When in doubt, read the OP Wink

Is there an archive of these deleted posts?
See my topic on deleted posts. In retrospect, I could have linked all deleted posts directly to my archive, but I didn't. And I'm not going to run it again, it's too much data to scrape frequently.

You got me curious there. So i copied all stats manually, run regex find and found few interesting result.
  • There are 6 users with 100% rate in either category.
  • There are 165 users with rate between 10% and 99+% rate in either or both category.
Some users deleted all their posts. Feel free to post your lists.

His feedback says he's a spammer, but I like this guy's style:
Pastrana received 0/100=0% Merit for deleted posts and 100/100=100.00% Merit for short posts
One image with 100 Merit, that's it.

Now if I may ask; what's the significance of this data scrapping/ thread?
It's only useful for extreme cases, with very high percentages. Like the one that deleted half his merited posts.

That's a pretty interesting yet random topic to think about. Is there an archive of these deleted posts? I know that there is some sort of archive for edited posts but not sure if they also contain deleted posts.

Details already mentioned in the OP Post.

Question:-
I searched my name and found my data, does this mean that you have presented all the users of the bitcointalk here ?

Answer:-
  • I only checked users who earned at least 100 Merit

Question:-
And when it comes to "Short Posts ", How many words is classified as a short post?

Answer:-
  • I consider posts with less than 16 characters to be short posts.

Hmm... perhaps average/median/standard deviation/etc might be useful here. I have no idea if my percentages are good or bad. Not that it matters much TBH, I'm not gonna start writing longer or shorter posts because of this.

Also top 50 would be interesting.

I join the request, although I thought that since you have done the work of creating this thread, another presentation would be more enjoyable, such as ordering them from highest to lowest, or alphabetically, to better find who we want to look for. In this case we would see how unusual some cases are:

Ratimov (2627711) received 2023/11946=16.93% Merit for deleted posts and 4290/11946=35.91% Merit for short posts:
...
More than 50% of his earned Merit lost it's reason.

Can you explain what was the ordering criteria?

Apart from that, curious to see that even JJG is able to write short posts, lol.

This just shows that there are posts that is very short that is worth giving merit
I even saw a post/reply of a '"bump" post got merits which is i guess a waste or idk. I would get it if the reply is an image meme that is hilarious exactly right reply of a question.

Wow amazing statistics… well done LoyceV for bringing us such unique things, that’s some perspective I never thought of!!!

Deleted posts and merits I’m sure have been discussed but short-posts that was new Smiley

Regarding my short posts, these are definitely from WO, which most probably contains a meme or a chart.

So I think may be we can further divide short-posts into single image posts and short text posts.

This just shows that there are posts that is very short that is worth giving merit since before one of the criteria of rewarding merit is when someone posted hilarious posts or very funny and even theymos is included in OP maybe theymos have posts that are merited and then deleted and obviously only few short posts since it's only 0.60%. I would say that all forum members who received merits from their posts that are short or deleted will get notifications (well except those who didn't setup the BOT).
