Nice guide. Would be better if it was a little  more short because you know newbie will not go through the whole text for sure. They will be kinda "TL;DR".

Well, not all newbies are the same  Tongue
I've gone through the hole text because the post is interesting and because I like to read carefully the rules, tips and important posts.
Even if they are long posts like this one or very long like mprep's Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ is a pleasure to read them as they are very useful.

12. If you're being treated like shit, let them be. Just learn something from them. Even if this makes you crazy laugh at it, accept it willingly.you have to adjust yourself.

This one keeps on happening to me, i know i don't know them but, sometimes i feel i don't like them, they even created a post for me like accusing of doing something, people sometimes are looking for something to talk to , they have already comment on your post , and now they have created a new thread just for you to be talk by others, i realized like what you said, that let them be, because when i finally realized i have more merit than him/her it means im doing better than him/her , but it doesn't mean that i don't like them, its just that people don't know to say it to you instead they will publish it to the world , like what i see in a quote somewhere goes like this If you don't like a person, keep it to yourself don't find someone and bring him to your cause to dislike others, but reading this one makes me feel better, no need for me to hate them, thanks cabalism

15. Dont Bump on The Old Topics.

Bumping some threads could be very helpful if it contains useful information that other members could have missed, especially if it didn't get much attention when posted.
There are couple of old threads where the discussion is still very relevant and informative. Such threads has a lot newbies can learn from.
....

I have no merit to give, but this is one old topic which deserves to come back to life. Sometimes old threads do contain both education and entertainment.

Another attempt just for the new users, they must be guided for the reason they might take the wrong path of staying here. Bitcoin is pumping once again, so we can expect a number of comebacks and new registries during this times. We must take precautions as always. So I will make this thread alive again just to be sure that it can be a help for everyone.

After a long vacation not visiting this section, I'm now be putting this thread up on the list again, for the sake of the other users that is willing to rank up and join the clubs.
Don't forget to join on some discussions here to help you nourish your brains with necessary informations bout crypto!
I'd say that these thread is not exactly what the thread title said but my opinion about the content of the thread is that it can help any person who are still learning about the forum and can help them get merit faster and also becoming a better forum user in bitcointalk who tends to help other forum who also wants to learn and to become a better poster.

I have been thinking of some other ways to help the new users on how can they actually rank up. But since, my mind is so busy on attempting to learn nodes and mining, I really can't think of it, but my account is active on some discussions and that also gives me a chance on earning Merits and sMerits to give on some needy newbies.

Okay, let me add you into my watchlist and let me decide whether you deserve to rank up or not, I am still earning some Merits that allows me to have sMerits, so better to keep up the activities so I can pretty give you one.
A very big thank you for the opportunity of inclusion into your watch-list

Additionally, am not at good at those two: Hunting spammers, Distributing sMerits to Lower Ranks. For the reason I'm only seeing such a little activities from the lower ranks, and most of their posts are generic ones which I really find a trash.

Basically, i Don't think that should have be necessary if the purpose was not defeated long ago. Merit giveaway thread where not involved during the early stage of Merit system, but why now?. Most of my time on the forum are used for constructive and helpful post and never think the Merit giveaway threads seem to me very important but base on your advise, i will give a try. Although i got one from Pmalek on this thread that was the first till now.
If you think that you deserve some merits then be patient and merit will come to you especially if you did contribute to the forum by posting a good information or by following the op's tips on getting merit I mean getting merits meaning you'll getting more knowledgeable about crypto.

You also stated that "kindly distribute your Merit/Xmerit to lower rank" which in my point of view is that it may also be called "BEGGING" for merits.

Grin Begging is prohibited in my dictionary, so, i won't beg just becasue i need to rank up. My ranking up will come on the basis of quality post when the time comes. I will not lick any ass on the forum just to Rank up.

That certainly was informative.
Didn't realize that "bounty spammers" were a thing, nor that they got as much hostility directed at them.
Guess it's just what the current system invites, the smell of money draws people in, and then they see the post & merit requirements for ranking up, so they get to work.
How'd you even differentiate someone who's just trying to engage with the community from someone that's just racking up numbers? The line between those two seems rather thin to me.
I'm fairly new to this scene, can't say that I even understand the merit system all that well, 'till recently I assumed they were just the forum's version of "thumbs up".
I suppose I should lurk in the "Beginners & Help" section more.

If others will emulate your life style; the forum will be a better place for the lower rank members. Many of these spammers hunters will continue to hunt the spammers without sending anything to some of our lower rank member with quality post, which make me think that the merit system; is just political among the higher rank members on the forum. If you are hunting for spammers, don't you hunt for good post too? Have been contributing my little quota to the community but still yet nobody seem to check my profile except that which i applied on Pmalek merit giveaway thread. Must it be like that? Merits are be distributed Monthly and not reaching the lower rank members, was that the purpose of Merit creation on the forum?

Hope you earn merit to continue your good work; in the life of the lower rank members of the forum. Particularly, still remain as a lower rank member on the forum sometime stigmatize me becasue i put up my very best, but nobody is seeing me doing it.

Stop hunting for spammers, kindly distribute your Merit/Xmerit to lower rank members with quality posts.

Take off your signature before you say that. Otherwise, you're running the risk of looking like a typical high-horse a hypocrite.
Hardly. The difference between someone who is only spamming to be paid, and someone who is posting out of genuine interest, is blatantly obvious for anyone to see.

I just went and opened the last page on the first thread I found on Altcoin Discussion. Below are a selection of posters from that single page on that one thread. Are you honestly telling me that you think these are all valuable and meaningful contributors to the forum, or that they would be spamming in the way they are if they weren't being paid for it? I would argue the exact opposite - not only are they not contributing, they are in fact hampering and hindering meaningful discussion with their nonsense spamming.

The issue is that many people in signature campaigns post only because they are in the signature campaign, and when the campaign ends and they are waiting for a new one to join, they are largely inactive. This is the wrong mindset to have - only posting for financial incentive - and it is very easy to identify the users who fall in to this category. Payments from a signature campaign should be seen as a nice byproduct of something you would be doing for free anyway - reading, learning, and contributing meaningfully to the forum.

Take off your signature before you say that. Otherwise, you're running the risk of looking like a typical high-horse a hypocrite.

Who are you to dictate what's the right mindset or the wrong mindset? People's time has value, this forum gives them the privilege of monetizing their time spent here - who are you to judge them for it?

In order to address this problem, change your mindset about campaign signatures and avoid viewing them as chores.

1. As early as possible, Stop joining the never ending Social Media Campaigns. Actually if you'll think about it carefully what you gain on these campaigns isnt that much compared to the salary that you can earn on the reality. Or just consider only joining on Signature Campaigns. But take note if you're going to do some campaigns make sure that you're activities isnt full of non sense, because Big Names are quite right this is a forum no a business are or profit giver.

Let me just add, joining campaign signatures is an excellent alternative into earning additional income monthly. But based from my observation into different spreadsheets of campaigns, every round there are a number of posters who do not seem to complete their weekly quota of posts.

In order to address this problem, change your mindset about campaign signatures and avoid viewing them as chores. Instead, at least aim to garner 1 merit per day. With this kind of mindset, you would be able to produce a relatively quality post without thinking of the chore of posting and this may be able to help you complete the weekly quotas.

Nevertheless, thank you for the extensive guide and may all newbies rank up and contribute more to the forum!

Hopefully to see myself promoting (ranking up) on this forum based on the article by OP, as I have executed most of the points raised by OP. Few months spent on the forum had been myself reading the forum rules and regulations which has been my guild, this method can also help Newbies like me to rank up. OP has said it all, but hopeful that someone somewhere is watching my post for merits as I continue the learning process to rank up.

Has given you one on my own discretion. Just to make you at ease that it isn't imposible to get one as long as you're not shittin on the community like those on the reputation section.

Maybe it is neccesery to add to a little note to tip Nr. 13

13. If you have seen anything share it, Just to let the others keep updated. Take Note: It's always very important to write a neat well-organised and well-spaced post if you are to share a lot of information with the community.

I've seen people copy/pasting (sharing) whole text with info, but forget to add a link to original text. Some of them got banned for posting plagiarized content.

What do you think?
I found it too much, we almost spoonfed them and they will just be use to it. They should learn and adjust whatever the nature here and not the other way around. They should bare in mind that plagiarism is prohibited and whatever you want to share then you shouldn't forget to have the link on it.

Anyhow, if they don't know how to quote then just provide the link as source of information.

Did you even read the article before dropping this reply? If you didn't then scroll back and read, re-read the article again until you understand clearly the message TS (thread starter) is trying to pass on. After reading if you still don't  know how to get merit then read some more post from this thread, Inspirational stories from self-made promoted users and here for ranking up, FAQ: Everything you need to know about forum 'activity, account ranks and merit.

Also you can search for help from members willing to review you post and send you some merits, we have numerous of them listed here; List of Active Merit Giveaways threads. willing to help users with your rank status.

Well, many will be learning the hard way through deleted posts and getting ignored.

Only those that settled down and "matured" will eventually forget about netting merits.

Nice post for newbies, hope some of them will motivate by this post. To be honest most of newbies don't care about activity or merit. They just joined forum for bounty campaign and they continue spam. They don't want contribute something on forum. Only report bounty campaign is equal spamming to me. I have start with zero merit on this forum. Now I have hero member potential merit. On the other hand I am become DT1 by voting. So first thing is, everyone should contribute themselves for forum as much as possible. Share experience with others. Improve posting behaviour day by day.

It's quite interesting to see this as my first thread after joining this forum. We all know how most of the forums work, no spamming, no low-quality post etc. Let's hope I'll find a section in this forum that I can fit.

Thanks a lot for putting all this together. I joined today and had a real hard time understanding how ranks and merit work. You post was extremely helpful.

Will try my best to become "junior member" and get the merit needed. Doesn't sound too hard.

Have a great day, and thanks again.

Old threads are just meant to be read by now. These topics has been discussed thoroughly in a good manner so its better to leave it be.
99% of the time, yes. Old threads in Bitcoin Discussion, Altcoin Discussion, Economics, etc deserve to be left alone - when they are necrobumped, they are almost always necrobumped with some nonsense one line spam that serves no purpose other than to attract other spammers to the dead topic. However, in boards like Technical Support, when looking for help with a problem it is often better to find an old thread with the same or similar problem and run through that thread first. If you still need help, then necrobumping that thread can be beneficial, as it prevents other users from having to rehash all the same ideas/solutions again.

15. Dont Bump on The Old Topics.

Bumping some threads could be very helpful if it contains useful information that other members could have missed, especially if it didn't get much attention when posted.
There are couple of old threads where the discussion is still very relevant and informative. Such threads has a lot newbies can learn from.

Also, I would tone down the name calling, your point can be well communicated without the need to reference accounts, especially is controversial contexts.

That's @cabalism for you, the likes of a rags to riches story here in forum. Tongue

The kids got some brains, he realised that reading a bit, learning what goes on here, reading some more & reading the rules pays off many multiples more than being a Pajeet bounty hunting fuck. i'll support and help any newbies who show some genuine interest in becoming a  part of this community, anyone who is just here for a quick buck can fuck off and go on ignore, I am cool either way.

This is something for the newbies here who are actually looking to invest, I bought bitcoin all the way up and back down numerous times from $30 all the way up to $18K and all the way back down again to buying 2 weeks ago @ $4K ish - Dollar cost average, it is the most sensible way to invest in this highly volatile market, don't get greedy Just buy what you can afford to forget about, be it weekly or monthly.

Seen and read this whole thread on our local board, I guess this is a Déjà Vu to reread it again but in a different discourse.

Nice guide. Would be better if it was a little  more short because you know newbie will not go through the whole text for sure. They will be kinda "TL;DR".

If they cant take 3 minutes to read an informative post then I am afraid they should fuck off. It ain't hard, read this info, digest this info, then action as advised.

I would adjust point number 8. I agree that only posting one line replies is a fairly solid sign of being a bounty spammer, but there are some instances where a brief one line reply is all that is needed. Longer posts are interesting to read not because they are longer per se, but because they contain more or complex information. Making your replies needlessly longer by padding them out with waffling or repeating the same nonsense is boring to read and will likely get your post reported. Be long enough to cover the point, but short enough to be interesting.

I'm also a bit skeptical with your general "aim for merit" advice. While I absolutely agree new users shouldn't be "aiming for bounties", I also don't think they should be aiming for merit. They should be aiming to learn, discuss and contribute, and by doing so constructively, some merit will likely come their way. Merit should be a by-product, not a goal, in my opinion.

Nice guide, though.

I started as a newbie with 0 Merits, just like the others, S_Therapist, r1s2g3, mdayonliner and so on. And as you can see I'm already one of the Full Member League.

Just hoping you aren't an alt account like the cross users above as accused by hilariousetc  Grin Just joking. No doubt the above account have contributed positively especially S_Therapist that's why they get rewarded with merits and ranked up.  Congrats on your ranking up too.  I notice you participating in jet cash's My 25 sMerit offer for a single post contest fastened your ranking up process.

No offends but your post contradict you title "simple" remove the simple. if I was to give a simple tip I'll make it simple, maybe something like post right, post with quality, avoid quote spamming and in addition have a good posting history simple.  The tips is just too long mate.

To Get More Attention Of The Newbies I Tend To Set A Bait

I originally made this thread on our local board, but it seems that I need to share this here as well, For the reason there are so many newbies and juniors here from any where.
I guess, some of you might already know this things, maybe some of you doesn't and maybe some of you doesn't care at all

For me, I can say that these thing are really effective for the reason I already have this account as proof. I started as a newbie with 0 Merits, just like the others, S_Therapist, r1s2g3, mdayonliner and so on. And as you can see I'm already one of the Senior Member League and only a bit more to the Hero League.

The majority of members are only here for the bounties, money, coins, etc. And only few of these members really care on knowing about the technology behind crypto. That's why, this is all I can say for those with Money Faces, If you don't bother communicating in this community well you can't even gain the profit that you want. But if you still want some changes then you should consider taking my advice.

-Merit was introduced as a barrier for shitposters and spammers to prevent them from bringing an endless loads of non sense here on the community, so if you don't want to be considered like them, you might want to do these things:

2. Avoid the SMT (Spam Mega Threads), as you can see most of you are posting in this sections with crappy replies, all of it are just scraps. This is such a waste of effort, you've already see a thread with 5-10 pages of answers and yet you want to post again another answer? That's absurd.

Create an activity where anybody can notice it, not on the flooded SMT, then you'll whine just because no one has given you Merits for your works.

3. Actually its ok to post on Sections that has been flooded by spammers just follow TIP NO. 2.

4. Expand your Knowledge, if you're face is like a money then you must do what I'm currently saying, Rank Up, Aim High. If you're not good in english then its alright but the question is, are you okay with just that? AIM HIGH.

5. We have a very reliable friend and that isGOOGLE, he is very friendly, he can even provide you videos, translations, and other services that you need on creating or constructing paragraphs.

6. If you're just into Bounties and doesn't even care about what you earn, then why Don't let Merit break your life once again, Gain Merits.

7. Actually Merits should only be rewarded to quality posts but as the facts says it can be given if someone agrees on or likes your posts. (But not frequent.)

8. Avoid creating so much Single or Double Liner posts, As much as possible have have it some more contents for the viewers be interested on what you're saying, but if it cant be avoided make a brief statement that has some special contents.

9. Learn to use punctuation marks.?! () ',.

10. Dont let it be your habit on making such replies like "I agree","Nice" etc., Like what I've said, expand your knowledge.

11. Eavesdrop what I mean is always be updated for you to Learn something new.

12. If you're being treated like shit, let them be. Just learn something from them. Even if this makes you crazy laugh at it, accept it willingly.you have to adjust yourself.

13. If you have seen anything share it, Just to let the others keep updated. Take Note: It's always very important to write a neat well-organised and well-spaced post if you are to share a lot of information with the community.

14. Grab the oppotunity if there are some challenges around the forumin that sense you build up yourselves.

15. Dont Bump on The Old Topics. However, in boards like Technical Support, when looking for help with a problem it is often better to find an old thread with the same or similar problem and run through that thread first. If you still need help, then necrobumping that thread can be beneficial, as it prevents other users from having to rehash all the same ideas/solutions again.

And if Red Trust gets you, just make a simple and nice conversation with whom has given you the Red Trust Some DTs offers a second chance, but dont Include the Leader of The Cult Lauda. If he/she has given you one better to not be pissed. Smiley

Avoid the cult of the pussies. Dont let them get you or else you'll be like cryptohunter

Last But Not The Least, AIM for Merits not the bounties, why? with the helps of this you can rank up, if this happens you can be known as a good citizen of bitcointalk. If you build up some reputation more chances of winnings Smiley more higher rates on campaigns to come.

PS. Because of my achievement I have so many sMerits to spend. And some offers me that they will help me on distributing this things.Merit Sources are willing to help. So its better to Help yourselves.
We're not selfish on giving Merits, its just that we have our own criterias on giving these Merits to several users.

No Offense But These Are Facts.
