Merit / trust / Medals is fine if people think they have a chance to get it. Then they will fight for it.
If they find out it is impossible to get it can backfire and give opposite effect.

Trust - if you get 1 bad trust from Default trust member you loose interest. In particular if unfair.
Merit - standard users have standard problems etc. No one give them merit. They loose interest.
Medals - we give them to our soldiers so they feel proud. When I see it I always think. How many people did he kill to get them.

Do I think merit is good. Yes / No. I don't care  Grin

Only thing that Merit is bringing now is Merit sell on local board and other forums. No more. And i don't see any action of Mod about this thread in local board.

If you know what they are saying, than report that to Admins and deliver evidence. They will look into it and decide what to do. Moderators and not all seeing, from time to time they need our help.

As far as i know it is against the rules to sell or abuse Merit. I guess there should be hard punishments for those who abuse Merit system, so that people should think twice before they do something like that. It is not the system that is bad, its the people who try to abuse it.

Most of the new accounts here are cancer, bringing absolutely nothing to the discussion and shitposting solely for the purpose of ranking up and taking part in bounty campaigns.

Yep. First thing I do when I see these users whinging is check their post history. Usually all trash farmed in ICO threads and other half-assed one liners of nothingness. The ones that are kicking up the must fuss vocally are likely the users who have multiple accounts because they know it's going to be very difficult to even get the merit points on one account alone never mind several. Long gone will be the days where you could sign up with as many accounts as you like just to easily bleed campaigns dry. Now you actually have to contribute something useful and to a perpetual one line shitposter this is going to be a lot of work indeed.

but I am wondering it is fair for ALL MEMBERS in here???
To people who seek to improve their knowledge and enjoy participating in exchange of opinion this merit system will be no problem whatsoever. Because in time they will gather enough points for rank up. Of course this will not be possible for those who post just for sake of post count.

as I know, different ranks hold different merits, and most importantly, who has higher ranks can have more merits to give away. which means, higher ranks have more power than low ranks.
Yes, on start higher ranks will have more sMerit. But who can better evaluate quality of posts if not them? Also that is only on start, because there is limited number of sMerit, even for high ranks. In time those sMerit will be passed down to other ranks, low and high.

generally speaking, as a newbie, he can't give a constructive post as other people who has higher ranks. what he can do is do his best to join the discussion as many as possible . but with this merit, this sense of "hierarchy” is going further!!! now everyone should kind of "please" the higher ranks member, because higher ranks hold more merits to give away!! which means they have more power in this forum. that's why I said is "hierarchy"
Rank has nothing to do with quality of post. When someone joins this forum, first step would be to get to know some basic things. After that what they NEED to do, is to READ as much as possible, and gather as much knowledge as possible. So when the time comes for them to join "as much discussion as possible" they will be able to make high quality posts. No one should please no one, but people need to think what they are posting.

but what's the beginning point of making this forum? is it spread the knowledge of crypto currency? is it offer a place for everyone to say their opinion? But with this merit, I don't think low ranks can say their opinion freely because they have to think twice before post, if what they say is unfavor for "high class" members, then it is hard for them to get merits.
The point of this forum is spreading knowledge of crypto currency and other things. And yes people can freely say their opinion, and they SHOULD think twice before posting something. Because that way they can be sure they made good post. And good posts have nothing to do with high ranks, because post is your own doing.

Not everything is in rank of profile. This forum is great source of all kind of knowledge, for those who seek it. We can say what we think and share our opinion freely, but that doesn't mean we should shitpost. We should follow regulations of this forum, and give our best in helping other people by making quality posts.

I think this Merit system is good for forum, in time it will insure more good quality posts. Those who seek to improve themselves and their posts will have no problem.

You summed it up perfectly, hilariousetc. Most of the new accounts here are cancer, bringing absolutely nothing to the discussion and shitposting solely for the purpose of ranking up and taking part in bounty campaigns. I'm happy with the introduction of the merit system and I hope it will discourage spammers from posting shittons of low quality content littering this forum. Just look at the post history of some of the accounts who bitch the loudest about merit, the majority of them are exactly what this system aims to rid of. Only time will tell if successfully, but in my view this is a step in the right direction.

Wut? Nothing has changed regarding posting. Everyone can still say whatever they want, only now great posts have the option of being rewarded with merit points.

if what I said is true, then what's the point to join this forum?

People used to join this forum so they had a place to discuss bitcoin but that has become second-fiddle as it has been taken over by shitposters just trying to earn in the laziest way possible. This system is an attempt to curb that and the farming that is going on. Now if you want to earn you actually have to contribute something of substance. Too bad for you.

if everyone can't say what they want to say in this forum then what's the point to make this forum?

I don't understand how this system stops people from saying what they want?

if new members think it is difficult to join this forum and hard to increase their rank, then I think it is bad for this forum to develop, because new blood is essential and I believe this forum is not just let higher rank members to show how much knowledge they have, but to spread the knowledge to new people and encourage new member to contribute more.

It's not difficult to join. It's easy. It's a little harder to rank up now but that's irrelevant to posting and is only an issue if you're wanting to earn money here.  If it was to just post and contribute you would just get on with it as nothing has changed there but you don't really care about actually contributing anything worthwhile and you're only complaining because this new system has now thrown a spanner in the works of you being able to easily earn here by shitposting. People will still sign up in droves to earn but that is now not as easy as just shitposting all the way to the bank.

I believe this merit system will make this forum become a WAR!

We're already at war. War against shitposters and this system is an attempt to clean that up.

you said you are a bounty hunters, under the circumstances of more difficult to achieve higher rank, you actually agree with the system.
what do you mean?Huh you need a higher rank but you agree to make it harder???really contradiction.
Why not? if this new system can reduce spammers or the like and certainly can reduce the work of the bounty manager, and finally I can get my payment in the right time, can you see now almost all bounty filled by spammers who chase the number of posts? and of course this becomes additional work by the bounty manager and the impact is the bounty hunter who honestly affected the impact (late payment).

And I also do not focus on my rank, because iam not just looking for a bounty in this forum. Once again sorry for my bad english and my bad explanation. Thanks

it is so boring if you just post and post and post to complete the necessary number of post to meet the activity needed to rank up, but now we have merit System, now we need to start adapting the changes, now we need to earn other's trust and attentions by making quality post, and good response to threads.... So it's a good news

Good for the forum
Bad for majority of users (unfortunately)

I think I probably agree with this, the thing is that it’s not going anywhere so we just have to get on with it.

That was rather quite exaggerated. I suggest that you lock this thread and keep the discussion in existing threads. There are some other complaint threads, where OPs are getting destroyed in their nonsensical arguments.

Yes, stop whining. I'm tired of these *pretend I really care about the system, but I'm actually only concerned about my own ranking up* threads.

An extra bonus: You're breaking the forum rules due to the way that you're responding to this thread.

right, I can't say anything bad about this merit system now. OK.

you are higher than me.

I will say nothing about this

I will obey your rule as long as I value my account in bitcoin talk

and yes, I value my account.

this merit system will make people think it is meaningless to reply, or say their opinion.

just like we discuss in here.

this forum should be a place for people to express what they think, not to favor everyone in this forum.
That is complete nonsense, and you are just a disgruntled shitposter. If you want to post on this forum for the sake of posting, you will not care about: a) Trust rating. b) Your rank. c) Your merit points.

because you still don't have much knowledge to give a good enough post in order to get merit.
Then don't post, idiot.

that's so harsh so unfriendly.
That's how it should be.

nice job to mess up!
Yeah, no.

I suggest leaving rather than annoying others with your useless whining.

just like we discuss in here.

this forum should be a place for people to express what they think, not to favor everyone in this forum.

but, unfortunately, people should like your post first then give you merit.

and after you genuinely cautiously reply or create a new topic and try your best to make contribution

your merit could be zero. because you still don't have much knowledge to give a good enough post in order to get merit.

then what you gonna do?

merit for people to give away is limited. your genuinely, cautiously post is valueless for the majority of people. only those good idea and constructive posts may get merits from others.

and is it right to try your best to make a contribution and get nothing?

that's so harsh so unfriendly.

also, don't forget humanity. why people give you merits? either you post is really really good or he or she can get benefit from it.

I already saw some posts said that there has merit trade available.

so, what's the point? dampen people's enthusiasm for "quality posts"?? and has the potential for cheating by buying merits??

nice job to mess up!

I think there should be a + button beside merit and JR members and up can click it to give 1 merit per post of a specific user.  With the +1 merit for quality post system everyone who is a somewhat established member vote counts equal when giving a merit point. Let forum members as a whole decide who gets what merit.

I don't understand it, can you explain it more?
