I think Merit is good function that must be added a long time ago. It can prevent spam posts with no quality.
Every one must concern what they are posting and their posts must be constructive.
Because that recently many members just want to spam their posts.

I have now gotten to know the merit system of this platform. This means if you do your best people with the ability to give merits will give them to you. Have been wondering about this and have now gotten it. Thanks Admin

Sadly enough the upper room isn't always enough for everyone on the pyramid and there has to be a way to slow down progressions. Merit is not just a sanitizer, but also a tranquilizer.
Only spammer, unhelpful, un-constructive users will get stucked due to merit system and new rank requirements. Constructive, helpful users will rank up sooner or later (not too much later than progress with old rank requirements). Iasenko, hugeblack, nullius, and more are classic cases for users who are able to rank up.

To say the least, something of this nature was to come upon the community sooner or later. Increasing cryptocurrency awareness is bringing so many new users to this forum and everyone is heading up the hierarchy. Sadly enough the upper room isn't always enough for everyone on the pyramid and there has to be a way to slow down progressions. Merit is not just a sanitizer, but also a tranquilizer.

Poll: Should the April Fools' Day Ranking System be permanently implemented?: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/poll-should-the-april-fools-day-ranking-system-be-permanently-implemented-3247948 Grin
Dude, no.  It was a bunch of nonsense to begin with, so it wouldn't serve any purpose to actually put it in place.  Can you imagine what Meta would look like if we had that many variables?  It'd be even more of a free-for-all than it is now.

I'm beginning to think there ought to be a child board for Meta, something for merit, trust, and rank--maybe all of them combined.  Don't see why something like that couldn't be put in place, as I don't think it'd require any more moderators.

And people will use "sir" or other polite word to increase their politeness in every board and no matter what topic they are talking about.  Grin

So yeah, no.

This question may already have an answer here (200 pages are a lot).
Do we know when sources get their sMerit? On 1st day of the month? 1st day of the 1st week of the month? (is only too keep my statistics updated)
IIRC they will get them back after 30 days.

E.g:

I spent 5 sMerits on April 2nd and 10 sMerits on April 3rd.
I'll get 5 sMerits back on May 2nd and 10 sMerits on May 3rd.

P.S: I'm not a merit source. That's just an example.

More child boards, more places for spammers to join and publish their shitty threads. I don't think open child-boards for merits, ranks, trusts is good idea.
Moreover, as you said, those child boards (if implemented) will require more human resources, more moderators. I don't think Theymos want to do this.
Just a thought, and obviously not a very popular one--but I thought something like this would work for all of the hacked and banned accounts for Meta.  It wasn't too long ago that Meta was filled up with "Why I'm banned" threads.

It may well be that this is what the section is for, but if that's the case we'd be better off with it being called "Ban Appeals".  So the feasibility of my suggestion was based on whether it'd take more staffing to pull it off, and I don't think there would be more threads if child boards were created; it would just help keep things organized, not spur creation of new topics.

Anyway, merit certainly has turned out to be a flaming hot topic as of late and I suspect it won't die off anytime soon if ranking up is contingent on getting it.  I'm cool with whatever happens as far as Meta being used as the go-to board for discussion, but having a subsection really isn't a horrible idea.

Merit is a perfect addition for this great forum! Keeps away all these shitty spammers that only post for their activity.

New users can also become copper member for just a tiny amount of bitcoin. It will take away some restrictions for newbee.

Self-Custody is a right. Say no to"Non-custodial"
April 03, 2018, 02:43:10 PM
you dont use it neither i think. i checked you stats and you only sent 13 times in the last 120 days. did you run our of sMerit or do you think that there havent been enough postings that deserve to be merited?

i still have 92 sendable merit left. and soon i wont have any left.

If you refresh yourself with the OP, you will see that the initial distribution of smerits was based on both then current rank and then recent activity level of the prior year.  So a Legendary member may have received an initial distribution up to 200 smerits - and the amount of maximum initial distribution went down precipitously, perhaps hero 100 maximum smerits and sr member 50 and full member 25-ish... So, some of those lower ranking members may be a bit more conservative with spending their smerits - unless of course they are earning a lot of merits which will generate more smerits for them to spend.

Bitcoin is not a currency or asset. Its a MOVEMENT
April 03, 2018, 01:30:33 PM
today - yes it took so long - i found out / or realised out what i like most about the merit system.
i dont have to answer to posting i lik. i just can sent 1 merit instead.
this makes topics shorter and it saves me some time.

unfortunately is does not really help preventing spam i think.

Also, users do not know concept of smerit, majority dont understand this still.
I think if we want to keep merit system beneficial for genuine people, we should do something.
I this original purpose to stop forum abuse is already met in term of restricting spammers, so now time to educate people to make it friendly feature.
I do not see people using their sMerit.

So you have a suspicion that there are sMerit hoarders who are patiently waiting for higher bitcoin price?

??
No, it's really a simple thought process. New month, new "free sMerit" given to merit sources, more new merit/sMerit for users. So the week must have more Merit overall.

That is an excellent point and argument that i support fully too, looks like the sMerits are getting drained out, we need some more ways to earn merit points on this forum

The only sMerits that are getting drained out are the airdrop ones that were given to everyone based on their activity in the last year. theymos has been increasing the sMerit given to sources to compensate for this and soon you will see that chart flatten out. This was the intention and not is not a problem.

or may be some other parameters like those that were introduced on April fool day, so everyone gets a chance to rank up based on one parameter or other.

You might have missed the main part of the joke. Ranking up on the April Fools system was completely random  Cheesy
