I saw some members selling thier merit points is this allowed in the forum or not?
Shitposters can easily ranked up by buying merit points.

Even if it's not get you banned it's still not accepted by the community. You can try to sell merit just like you can sell your account or trust. If such a transaction gets spotted you'll get negative trust and it will be almost impossible for you to gain merit in future. People will know you and not reward you even if your posts deserves it. So, as you can see it's not worth the trouble in most cases, especially that any user can check your post history, merit and trust ratings.

It's a risky deal. You will pay money for merit that you may not get at all (scammers), or get it and someone finds out and paints you red, or you will get away with it and 6 months later get banned for shitposting and all that time and money goes down the drain.

I got about enough time to post the stuff I want to sell each day and thats it.
---snip---
So is that fair to me being advanced in the forum because I cannot do this?

if you were here for selling stuff as in actively posting in marketplace, you don't need merits
you should concentrate on your product qualities and services, to get trust points from satisfied customers
higher rank seller doesn't mean anything but high trust level should boost customer's confident dealing with you

If the merit system can prevent shills and shitposters from ranking up, then I am cool with this. Before the merit system, even shitposters and people smack talking Bitcoin could rank up on the forum. This is a Bitcoin talk forum, where people are rewarded for constructive contributions and good quality discussions.

The spammers/shitposters and shills were being rewarded for their negative contributions. The merit system is not the perfect solution, but it is definately a step in the right direction.

Let's reward the people who deserve it and incentivise the people who are not there yet. People who are destructive and who are sabotaging the forum and the technology, should not be rewarded.

This is only the beggining. A large number of users do not even know that there is such a thing like Merit, and even more do not know how to use it. With time, people will get used to giving out merit points and their collection will be easier.
Either that or many people will ran off from Bitcointalk to another forum, which is good because potentially it will reduce spams Roll Eyes

I am from a distance when the system merit now, I am confused how I can earn merit points while I do not know what to do. Please help sir.
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/merit-new-rank-requirements-2818350

Merits are "rare" because merits are only given to bitcointalk members who make quality constructive posts/replies, which are quite rare for the lower ranks hence you see most of them complaining on multiple threads(just like this one).
Those newbies complaining are most likely an alt, they're now sad that they can't farm multiple accounts anymore, at least not so easy anymore.
Then again, I've seen newbies with high enough merits to be able to rank up to Member or Full Member

Well, worth is subjective, but I guess I can offer the followng:

- If you are posting here in a second language, and you feel you have posts worth merit on your first-language board, then you should re-read them and consider if the title is something which will catch attention, and by the right audience. Then consider if the content is relevant and well-delivered.

- If you are posting here because there is no board for your first language, then you may unfortunately need to improve your English to earn merit. This is not a racist thing, just a practical thing. If there is no board for your language, but you feel there should be, please search for how to open one.

I do not wish to offend with these statements - please understand I am being honest.

If you feel this merit system is as dumb as it sounds, then you got my merit. Make a comment, +1 merit. Upvote the last comment, and hopefully the next comment will do the same. Maybe then you can rank up in this forum and actually be noticed. Its gonna take double the time and effort, but if your already posting here, then you know that.

Haha, this is a merit ponzi scheme thread. But the run only lasted 1 post and then it fell apart. Mjglqw responded, you gave him merit. This thread cost you one merit...but at least you gave it to someone making a quality post.

Shall conclude that this merit system is working as designed?

Dude, give it a rest.

This goes against the fundamentals of why the merit system was introduced in the first place. If this idea of yours actually works (which more than likely won't, as you'll attract most newbies who don't have sMerit to give in the first place), you're susceptible to getting red-tagged for it for abusing the merit system, which could be considered highly untrustworthy.

If you're okay with red tags in your trust, then by all means, enjoy this Merit "Ponzi" Roll Eyes

For everyone else who respects their account, don't partake in this nonsense; just post quality content and you're bound to get merited eventually.

i have only 1merit and my active post is 70 but i dont know how i ll send merit because whenever i tray to send merit  the message shown you have not enough merit

To be able to give merit points, you must first earn them. For every two points you earn, you get the opportunity to send one merit point. At the moment you have only one merit point, so you can not give anything yet. When you get two merit points then you will have one to use.

Sorry for little off top Wink

My understanding is that you are able to send 50% of the merit that you receive. You only have one merit and so you arn't able to send any. When you get one more merit I think you will be able to send a merit to someone. Also I agree that the merit system is a pain to grind through, but at least it inspires better post quality and less spam.

I got about enough time to post the stuff I want to sell each day and thats it. I work about 50 hours a week. I'm not gonna be on bitcointalk long enough throughout the day, week, to care about other issues, unless it directly involves something that I am doing. I get to make about 1 post a week, on a topic that someone may notice. So is that fair to me being advanced in the forum because I cannot do this?

And your right about the ponzi thing. Its just a name to attract visits.
Unfortunately not. Take note that the Merit system is NOT perfect. But it's a lot better than it used to be, as it prevents shit posters from ranking up. Though if you're here on bitcointalk for the sole purpose of selling stuff, then you probably wouldn't need merits. Probably try your best to gain trust ratings instead.

Maybe then you can rank up in this forum and actually be noticed.
If you or another person's post couldn't be noticed, then it probably means that it doesn't deserve to be noticed. I browse the forum a lot throughout the day, and I'd say 90% of the good posts I see are already given at least 1 merit. You don't see the good posters complaining, don't you? The only people I've actually seen complaining about the new Merit system are the ones who don't contribute crap and just go straight to campaigns.

And to your title: Merit Ponzi ; You obviously don't know what a ponzi[1] actually means.

Here, I've done the lazy research for you: A Ponzi scheme is a fraudulent investing scam promising high rates of return with little risk to investors. The Ponzi scheme generates returns for older investors by acquiring new investors. source
