Merit source is still too slow to be much use, they will be spent then long wait for replenish.

Another reason to have a few more sources, and maybe to increase Smerit stashes of merit sources that are active a lot .....

Mic has been very active in the community and proven himself to be genuine and trustworthy time and time again.

Pretty sure everything else has already been said about him so I'll skip that part of my post and simply add my name to the long list of supporters.

It also looks like you have given out 36% of your merit(317 merit) to only 5 people, I don't know what the circumstances are surrounding these merit transactions, and your merit giving habits may have changed.

I don't have any issues with micgoossens, but IMO if he wants to have any realistic chance of becoming a merit source, he needs to find better posts for his application.

I am curious to know how many people bothered reading any of the cited posts before vouching for him.
Mic is one of the most active member of WO thread so it is not a big surprise that his merit transactions were circulated for certain number of members.

I can vouch for Mic as well because he is helping most of the community members to rank up from his own sMerit and he ran out of sM most of the time because I am reading WO thread too often.

I have released this thread a little before I was going to sleep... So you clearly can see I only have the Smerit that were generated cause of this thread....

Very much Thx for the positive support I have got ...

@QS, I have send Some Smerit to a lot of same members as I was mainly involved in that part/community of the forum, and mostly were to all quality members that mainly write good posts.... There can always be a good spirit Smerit been send for Lulz, but never been send to a scam-user of the forum.

The smerits you're talking about are the ones he just received in this thread. They don't even show up on bpip.org.

By my calculations, he has given out 1/2 the number of merit he sent, which means he has unspent sMerit totaling however he received from the initial sMerit airdrop. I am not sure how much sMerit the lower ranks received from the airdrop, but it looks like he was either a Full Member or a Senior Member when the merit system was implemented.

I whole heartedly endorse this application.

Mic is an upstanding netizen, has a good head on his shoulders and one of the best attitudes on the forum.

Collectibles definitely seems to be an under-merited section (though the WO thread is the opposite).

I support mic being a merit source 100%, just don't give him more sMerit per month than me  Tongue

As for the quality of the posts he chose, I'll admit I didn't bother to look. Mic's profile is well known, he is a Bitcoin aficionado, he gives smerits to people who have interesting things to say about BTC, simple as that... and I believe that's what we're here for, to talk about BTC.
I don't think you'll ever see him reward someone in the altcoins board lol.

I looked at some of the under-merited posts you cited, and I would have to recommend that you try to find some posts that meet the following criteria:
posts that are objectively high-quality, not just posts that you agree with.

The posts you are citing are examples of the types of posts you would be giving merit to if you were a merit source. I think a lot of the posts you are citing are really just low effort posts that would only receive merit if the sender was friends with the person posting, or something similar.

Two of the posts you cited stood out to me:
I am going with 5,564 usd.  I will add technical analysis later, no time now, but I leave a chart of my thoughts.

No moon yet though.  We still have months of turbulence ahead.

I am also not 100% certain about this, but it appears you have not even exhausted all your sMerit. Definitely backing mic up here !
Very generous guy, he often does contests in which he gives away lots of BTC for those of you that don't know him.
Everybody likes him in the W.O. thread, he makes people feel welcome there. And I see he posts more and more in other threads now.

He himself does receive lots of merits and never hoards them, he's always out of smerits.

You've done a tremendous help improving and establishing the community thread, You are one of the example of a good quality and a constructive poster, not just that you are also helping the community distinguishing the quality posters from the bad ones, for me there is no reason for not choosing you as a merit source, I genuinely want you to become one of those, but in the end of the day it is for the admin to decide whether you qualified or not. Good Luck and hope that you get what you Prayed for.

Quiet confusing at first and a more different approach on applying as a Merit Source but a deserving one.
You've work hard on this forum enough to become one of a great Merit Source so I will support this one. I saw your great appreciation to those who really deserve merit, I wish a best of luck for you.

it's good to see some of my TA posts listed in your application , glad that some people appreciate the efforts  Roll Eyes. You are one of the very few members that deserve the time and effort spent in speculation section.

mic is the backbone of speculation section to say the least, I support your application and would like to take the opportunity to thank you for all the time and effort you put for us.

Good Luck.

Dear Bitcoin Forum,

Why do I appeal for this merit source status?

I have enjoyed the respect of many of the well-respected and long-term members of the forum; from the Economics (Speculation) section, the Marketplace (Goods esp. Collectibles) section and beyond.  I have likewise shown much respect towards the other members here as well.  I have received much of my merit for my positivity in tough times and for trying to raise members’ spirits.

Most of the time, I use the Merit system to award members for the quality of their posts, for bringing good spirit and/or humor to the community but also as thank you for proven service.  I have been merited very much; not always on high-quality stuff, but maybe because a lot of members kind of like my good spirit regarding Bitcoin and the positive relationships I have forged around the WO and the forum.  I feel that I don’t have enough merit to send to all the posters who warrant it and I want to become a merit source so I can be more involved with the forum and share more of the same goodwill that’s been afforded to me.

I’ve been a registered member since July 14, 2017 when I entered the forum thanks to a friend who introduced me to the Wall Observer thread.  This was the beginning of my Bitcoin education and for about the first year or so I visited the WO thread exclusively because I really thought it was the entire Bitcoin forum not realizing there was so much more.  Thanks to some very helpful members, I developed a better understanding of the forum and discovered there were other sections and threads.... LoL  Roll Eyes I know, but I believe this shows my dedication and my desire to learn.
There will always be people/members like me, still in a learning phase but having the best of intentions to learn and a willingness to be involved with Bitcoin so when such a member crosses my path I know will be there to help them find their way around the forum and I would also like to be able to merit those members when merit is due.  I also believe that there are many more "NEW" quality members on the forum trying and willing to participate, to build on to this amazing community that deserve some merit.  There are likewise many quality senior and hero members as well posting lots of good stuff but having difficulty receiving sufficient merit to propel them to legendary status.

The bulk of my activity has been in the threads I mentioned at the beginning of this post but I have also visited Dutch-language section a few times and I could be a bit more active there as well as a Merit source.   There is a Dutch idiom "kaf van het koren scheiden" which translates literally in English as "separate the wheat from the chaff” and means "to separate the valuable from the worthless” – as a merit source, this would be my motto.

The forum is a community of people helping one another when and where it is needed.  As an example, a fellow forum member proof-read and corrected this document in order to help me with my desire to become a merit source.  I have the time and the desire to be a merit source and would like to have the ability to reward this type or community spirit whenever and wherever it occurs.

sincerely,
micgoossens
