The last time this forum received a donation from someone i believe was over a year ago? Which basically means the forum is completely dependant on their reserves/ad revenue. (albeit that the reserves are quite large.)

I just saw the thread about getting the Donator status

If you donate 10 BTC (which pays for about a month of hosting), you get donator status:

Obviously this would pay for much more then one month of hosting now Cheesy
No wonder that the last donation has been so long ago.

There is a simple solution which would stop all the complains about the Merit system.
Yes we all accept the reality on this new merit system now, besides there's a good reflection to our beloved forum.
Let's vow our head and obey what is rule given, just move on about merit system. Grin Grin

This isn't allowed and those users would have their posts deleted, be warned and then banned if they continued.
Copy pasting that's a big offence here in forum sir it is worth it to ban forever.
Thank's for the warned sir.

Banning the signatures will lead eventually to making the signature part of the post itself (copy-paste in each post) .
It has been done before in other forums, nothing new here.

It is funny that lots of people talking about banning signature ads have a signature ad in their profile.  Smiley

99.99% of the people in this forum are into crypto for money, not for scientific knowledge,
so making some additional coins through signature campains feels natural in this context.
Banning the signatures will lead eventually to making the signature part of the post itself (copy-paste in each post) .
It has been done before in other forums, nothing new here.

On another note, one line posts can contain sometimes just as much information (or even more) as a half a page post.
Quantity doesn't mean necessarily quality, and quality doesn't mean necessarily  quantity.

From the administrative side removing signature campaigns might be a solution, but from the user end if the users realize that they need to make quality posts the solution gets achieved easily. I believe rather than considering removing signature campaigns making people give quality posts is the right solution.
Yes that I think is an appreciation. Signature campaign can be said as an encouragement to play an active role in this forum. To be honest, there are a lot of users who are motivated after they follow the signature campaign, given the paid fee, the user will be more enthusiastic to give the best and even they want to be a useful person for the forum because in fact they can get regular income.

P.S: that is the opinion I have, I am sure there are people who have different opinions. Let us work together to produce a quality discussion forum.

Banning the signature campaigns here completely will result in a large number of users leaving this forum. Whether the members accept this or not, most of them are here for that. New registrations are also being done with the hope that one day they will be eligible for these campaigns. There might be 1% people here who are interested in gaining knowledge about Bitcoins.

Yes, I agree to that and the merit system is I think the best solution than removing signature campaigns totally in the forum.
When people are getting used to the merit system, everything will be smooth and it would be like the facebook like button where it would be second nature to us to award merits to those deserving.

I believe this is not the final solution and Theymos team is surely tracking this and will do appropriate actions in the future regarding gaming the merit system.

I want to say something about this but my opinion does not mean that it would be better to fix this problem by liberal approach...
There is a conflict of interests,We don't like spammers, despite the fact we want to know more about good projecs to invest our funds in it,This forum is the best place to advertise new projects better than in TV,bussiness firms are trying to add their new projects here and they pay for this,Its good for everyone,as we all know the main thing in business is advertising if you want to achieve special goals, and we also know that TV,facebook or another social networks are not better place than this.I don't understand everyone here say that this forum is for help and why this situation is not considered as a help? and thats why I think that merit system is the best solution, but of course there are problems too, there will not be spammers in mega threads but they will be at here -in Meta section.

This would stop all account farming and spamming since the rank would no longer be that relevant.
It would indeed be a lot less, but i could still see accounts being farmed to scam/bump ICO threads etcetera.

This merit thing will not prevent shitposter from ranking up.  If a person is a good quality poster but no one wants to give him/her merit theres nothing he/she can do with that. Unlike those one liner posters and shitposters they will still get merit if the member wants to give him merit. I saw a lot of shit post and one lined post that recieved merits.

That sounds delusional, do you have some examples?

This is possible but I think not by this time, in my own opinion this merit system is the way to observe the spammers, and after the certain period of time deleting account without merit will be the finale.

It would stop complaints about the merit system but if you think the complaints are bad now people will get absolutely hysterical if signatures were banned. Look how bad people are complaining now and all that is happened is they have to work a little harder to get rank and/or get paid. If you took way their "right" to earn the butthurt would burn with the force of ten thousand suns and would go on forever. Please sir theymos bring back signature campaigns sir. I quit my job for sign camp and my kids are starving over and over every day.

This would even benefit the forum since normal ads would be more lucrative and could be sold for more I guess.

For sure they would but theymos has said several times that he doesn't want to remove signatures. I think it would be a shame to get rid of them completely but more restrictions or punishments need to be put in place for those causing the most damage. If people only get paid for quality posts then we wouldn't have this problem in the first place but this is something that needs to be enforced otherwise nothing will change.

I originally joined this forum back in 2013  then left and came back to find I had been banned for no activity which is fair enough but back in 2013 the posts were so much better and so much more helpful to new people coming into crypto. I can not remember all these sig campaigns which is one of the reasons driving all the spamy posts now
There used to be a lot more webmasters, coders and designers talking about implementing platforms and sites for cryptocurrencys. Now it just seems its full of people trying to earn small amounts of bitcoins from sig campaigns or launching new altcoins. So maybe you are right about stopping the sig campaigns but then again the forum has to make money somehow and if im guesing right they must also make something from the campaigns and ads so doubt that would work either. Bring on the haters I can take it lol

I do not expect .....
I see someone will benefit from people who have smerit but unfortunately smerit is given to someone who does not create a quality message

Because of 'EGO' the admin will NOT abolish this shitty 'Merit' system even though deep down he knows himself 'merit' is the worst thing happened to this forum.

people will have to get used to it because there is no other choice, same as when government  imposes new taxes etc..
Of course, the merit system are worse than the forum hack in October 2013 Roll Eyes
Merit Sytem are created by Theymos to push people to create more higher quality posts rather than a spammy one which plagued this forum for a long time.

No High Quality Post = No Merit
No Merit = No new shinny rank

This is Centralized forum, believe it or not, people would have to obey the rules and any changes it has.
If someone didn't agree with the new forum system, they are free to leave Wink

I agree with you mate. There is no freedom without the law (excuse for being biblical).
Bitcointalk is the right place for new people in the cryptocurrency to learn the ins and out of it. The merit system is one of the tools to make this possible - newcomers get better and quality information and not just random and without any sense posts. This will further make each of us share only quality posts so we can somehow be awarded merit points here and there by other members.

it is true that many merit system complained by the members, especially the new members, I think Theymos make this system is no other indeed to combat farmers account and spam messages are difficult in control but in addition the negative impact of this system are those who are not farmers account and try to become a member that makes quality messages impacted

At least we can raise our concerns . Last time I checked there is still no restrictions in this forum ( may be restriction  will come soon, since people are complaining about this shitty 'merit' system)  on Freedom of speech!!

I've suggested this on several occasions, but I'm having a rethink.

Bitcoin Talk can have two functions in the Bitcoin marketplace. It can provide education and support for Bitcoin users, and it can act as an employment bureau for Bitcoin, crypto and digital currencies and assets. They are two completely diffent functions, and should be kept apart, but that is a job for the mods rather than the merit system.
