It's a matter of time and chances, there is always room for improvement if you decided to grown on the platform, we may all be born the same day but we can't get rich all at the same time, if you desire it then you can acquire it, compare your post to those ahead of you, even invite a third party to judge in accessing yours, work on yourself, improve your diction and post relevant things needed. To me I've just given you a check and balance principle for continuous development, if some are making progress where you are, that means they offer some quality service and sacrifice you don't know about, discover yours today and have a better smile tomorrow

I can't mention the name of everyone, and that's why I decided to hand pick some few on the forum.

Please tell us how you hand-picked these five members? What methodology did you use? What metrics?

I don't want to be disrespectful towards our admins and mods, but obviously these are not "the top influential members on this bitcointalk community," as you claim. I mean, you chose someone who is no longer even active on the forum and doesn't have even one "earned" merit, so how exactly did you pick them?

In fact, the significance of this post is not great. Many of us are studying on this forum.
Some people are used to reading all the time and never writing.
In this forum, merit should not be considered the most important.
Although I think merit is an affirmation of a person.
Everyone hopes that they have a lot of merit. But some people like to help others in obscurity. Observe silently and learn silently.

While some are learning and gaining merits, we learnt that there are users like LoyceV sir and many more who are familiar with Sheets, Tables (in short, Excel work) and using their skills, managing database of the forum in various different ways, they have managed to gain those merits for all their hard work and dedication they have shown on this forum for the entire community. This does not mean that merits are limited to specific skill set only, we have also seen some users getting merited for memes, some for their graphics work while some for their humor, some in their local boards. Collectively, all these things serve as a way for newbies to learn and earn merits, just keep doing what you are doing and never let your efforts get down by the time, because only those succeed who never stop trying.

I think OP missed the mark on what he was trying to present to the people. Instead of listing those that grew fast, you were centered on some of the famous people. Even at that, you can hardly say some of them are more famous than Lovesmayfamilis, her scam bursting amongst others proceeds her and Hhampuz for the Signature participants.

When it comes to those that were able to grow fast in the forum, you should have looked out for accounts that got created on the forum and were able to rank up in the least time after the introduction of the merit and activity system not before. Those users listed above existed before the merit and activity system which makes your theme of no value @OP.

So listed below are the top influential bitcointalkers I will be  examinating, together with what similarities and characteristics do they have in common

1. MiningBuddy
2. mprep
3. Cyrus
4. Hilariousando
5. Theymos
...

MiningBuddy has not been active in this forum for over three years. His merit was airdropped by the administration on the basis of his forum rank at the time. Get your facts straight! Wink

I guess he didn't see that, lol, anyways, I will like to add that @op, next time you do this kind of comparison, please use ordinary members on this forum and not moderators, we all can not ignore that fact that moderators enjoy some kind of special privileges which the ordinary members don't, a moderator makes a post, whether post makes sense or not, other members will still merit the post cus its the moderators post, ordinarily members work harder to achieve that which they have, so please, next time, use ordinary members and not moderators... It's only fair on everyone.

It's hilariousandco, already reading half way into your post and I have seen some wrong search, why people won't grow fast is when they don't do well researched work, or ask questions on things they have no knowledge of before making a suggestive thread, you develop and when you do, you can suggest to others the value or personal experience you had developing, I don't think you can tell someone else's story to other people.

Merit is implemented because of spam, low quality post and theymos implemented it to stop the spam but it didn't work yet it lessen the said issue. What you mentioned about a forum user's growth with the merit having a major role in it is not what it should be. Merit's major role is to rank up which is correct but for growth of knowledge and experience, merit is out of it since it is rewarded for those who made substantial post. The answer to your thread's title is read, learn, repeat and you'll received merits when you made a post as you can obviously create a thread which is of hi high quality or something like that.

Merits did a good job as a barrier to those chasing after signature campaigns. That's why we see those questions on how to work for companies or rank up from newbies. After receiving the answer that they didn't expect/ want, they leave.

Meanwhile the rest that do bounty jobs won't give a toss or two about Merits. But hey, not like we visit those Bounty sections anyway.

<…>
I wouldn’t say that those profiles are "obedient", and I’m pretty sure none of them consider themselves as such (with the exception of to their wife (or such) - perhaps). The highlighted profiles are admins and mods, so it’s pretty much implicit that they kind of comply with the forum rules.

The number of posts is not a measure of much in general terms. There are spammers that can make the 900 post mark in a quarter, so it isn’t really a measure that is objectively fitting to denote "hard work" (if work is the term to be used at all).

Dedicating time to the forum does not warrant merits. It’s not the time factor per se, but what you do with it that has, in any case, that potential. We could easily find spammers that are dedicated here, but are lacking merits due to the content they create being non-substantial.

In general, it’s ok to see what other profiles on the forum have managed to do here with their time, and it’s normally the content they create what speaks for them. We do have to bear in mind though that everybody is fortunately different, and what they do here is not just down to time (which is a major factor indeed), but also to the capabilities they have or develop over time.

OP, stop calling your "creativity" in this thread an article. Google the internet what is the difference between a post and an article before naming your post differently. For example:  https://www.makealivingwriting.com/writing-an-article-vs-writing-blog-post-differences/
Yes, of course, you can kiss the asses of people who have given you merits, but keep in mind it looks very pathetic. And seeing such topics, do not take them as an example, but just read what users write in response to such topics. Do you need such fame or reputation from the first steps on the forum? Make the right conclusions.

This post is a bit misleading. For one, you got the facts of some of those members wrong. Secondly, singling out a few people (no disrespect to them and their contributions) to commend them for their contribution seems to be spite in the face of numerous other members who have been sweating to add quality and relevance to the growth of this forum.

It would have been better if you had referred to people that have influenced you personally. That would be a subjective opinion and no one (including this writer) would counter it.

This sounds more like praise-singing and chasing merit to me.

There are many such posts on the forum. What I want to say is, forget your merits, the more you want to get it, your performance will be obvious, and sometimes it will be clumsy. Let the flow take its course, do your own thing, and keep learning. Mindset, take a look at the posts in the novice section: Reading is greater than replying.

. Yes, you are by creating this thread.

This is where you are getting it all wrong, I never wrote this article as an avenue to beg for merit, I only wrote this as a medium to express how I felt, which is not a crime, because everyone on this forum is free to express themselves, which I have seen many people done the same in previous post, and I decided to do mine with a view taking a look at those listed above in my article. But, thou I may be wrong on some facts stated, which most commenters has been able to correct my points and am grateful..
So in summary, this article was given birth as a medium to express myself. And to encourage my follow Newbie and Jr members. That in order to be successful, not only on this forum but in life. You have to follow the COHDAF principle. Which means to be Consistent, Obedient, Hardworking, Dedicated, Available and Focus.

. It doesn't mean moderators with less merit is bad,

I never said so, because everybody here is indeed trying their best for the growth of the platform, but just as you know, I can't mention the name of everyone, and that's why I decided to hand pick some few on the forum. Which the names I mentioned are the most popular on the forum which a "brand Newbie" who creates account  today, will still be able to identify them because they are virtually visible on the home page..

So, I stand a chance to be corrected, but I also have a right of expression, as long as it's not against the forum rules and regulation. Thanks

So, we see a new generation of newcomers who are not just hunting for merit, which is at least honestly said but also striving to become moderators and even administrators of the forum.
Buddy, I'll tell you a quick way to become an administrator, open your forums, and voilà, you're already a commander.
But seriously, your "article" is a direct hunt that stings your eyes. First, achieve small milestones, and then you can stutter about big goals. Sometimes Remember that this forum is about bitcoin, not merits.

Agree with everything here, it’s a long post, disguised quite well but it’s clear merit begging imo. I’m seeing a lot of relatively new accounts making similar threads, listing respected members & blowing smoke up their ass. They probably see those users as likely merit senders.

I mean come on, imagine being such a cuckold, you start a thread praising people you’ve probably barely interacted with on here more than a couple of times, if ever.

I’ll file this under - Must try harder.

He is no longer the first. The one with the most earned merit is LoyceV:

https://bpip.org/
Yes LoyceV is now the member with most merits on the forum surpassing theymos few days back and at this time of writing LoyceV is already 44 merits ahead of theymos with 8630 merits and i also came across that thread where Ratimov made that post congratulating him.

But the fact is they have earned that much knowledge in these years and @OP is writing about the moderators and administrators of this forum who had implemented certain rules after Satoshi made this forum and are responsible for effective working of the forum. He should concentrate on working towards his goal rather than seeking merits with such posts and i recently came across such one or two posts where the newbies are trying to do the same thing like making remarks and sharing the profile of some esteemed members of this forum whom we already knows and what utility will it serve to others i don't know? You just make some useful contribution and provide and kickstart some good threads not like this.I am not being rude to @OP but just a friendly advice to him to work on these things.

Yeah. Here we go again. A low-ranked member who creates a long post (which does not mean that it is of high quality) praising the merit system to try to fish some merit.

Get your facts straight! Wink

Take note Cyrus is not just a moderator here on the forum he is also the admin here on the forum.

This post is a bit misleading. For one, you got the facts of some of those members wrong.

Yes, for example, a claim that he has falsely made and that has not been mentioned:

5. Theymos:

Yeah, looks like it. I find it a bit ridiculous that "young" forum members strive for this goal without considering how much effort administrators and moderators put into running the forum. They probably wouldn't even consider accepting such a position if they were aware of that.

We live in a world where everybody wants to do something quickly, with as little effort and time as possible. It is unfortunate if this obsession with merits becomes the only motivation for new members of this community.

This topic seems kinda unusual to me. I'd rather people try to strive for individuality, sure you perceive yourself to be like "the best" by mimicking them but you're going to trade off some authenticity for that.

If you're going to earn a lot of merit, you probably don't need telling how to. Whether you manage to earn a lot of merit, some merit or no merit at all, you're still someone and shouldn't really give up what you are just to be what you're told people want you to be...
I very much agree with the point of view.
Personality is very important, it is the soul of expressing opinions, so you still have to stick to your own style and personality.

It's not that deep tbh, they probably liked engaging with the community and everything else came naturally.
