Most likely Microsoft is simply hedging their bets with the nascent crypto-currency technology.

And there is this recurring rumor of a company wanting to buy 90% of all mined Litecoins for research and development.

Well... I can dream can't I ?      Smiley

The article was saying MS is working with Intel on Windows 9 with the goal of making it the first 128bit OS... and Windows 10 being the first 256bit OS...  I'll see if I can dig up that article again.
I've built servers with up to 256 GB RAM. For the sake of estimates, let's say 1 TB RAM is about tops right now. That's 2^40. If we extrapolate with Moore's law, we'll max out 64-bits (2^64) in about 36 years. (Realistically it's going to be a lot longer than that) There's no way MS is going to support Win9 40 years from now. There's no 128-bit hardware in the works, so there's no point in designing 128-bit software for the foreseeable future.

256-bit computing will likely never happen.
Just remember Bill Gates famous quote... "640K ought to be enough for anybody"... and today we're going around with a minimum of at least 1GB in most newer computers, and data centers with nearly petabytes of RAM in total. Technology advances fast when it needs to... so 128-bit could come up any time soon. Although 64-bit still isn't fully adopted in every computer. So it'll be a long time before 128-bit ever gets wide scale adoption.

This is turning out to be quite interesting.First GPU mining possible with LTC,now microsoft running an LTC node.LTC is certainly becoming an interesting currency for me.I want to know how to check this is cmd prompt in win 7 to see if my LTC connects to microsoft.

Sounds like that employee is mining for LTC as well.

It's a command line utility called "netstat". It shows the various connections you have with their port numbers. -n is probably the switch he used.

Has anyone run the same analysis on Bitcoin nodes?  See what sort of places connected IPs resolve to?

quite certainly...

Microsoft is of course working on versions further than 9 and 10 but wouldnt be as stupid as to announce such stuff...

Are you referring to the PC game?

No. Have a look at this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Singularity_%28operating_system%29

I reading somewhere at MS actually has put together staff and have already started on Windows 9 & Windows 10..

The article was saying MS is working with Intel on Windows 9 with the goal of making it the first 128bit OS... and Windows 10 being the first 256bit OS...  I'll see if I can dig up that article again.

I am willing to bet it was written by an idiot.

My guess: There wont be a Windows 9
After Windows 8 they have to restart the whole damn thing to make up for the shame for removing everything vital from an operation system and adding useless bullshit...

haha now ms coders are being paid in ltc per line of code and i heard that  windows 9 will have 11 install dvds

2 bluray disks surely. (if 4.7Gb/disk)

Spinning shiny discs at high speeds to detected physical pits by a flashlight? How delightfully archaic.

My guess is Windows "9" likely will have no disk (but that won't stop the bloatware).
