BTG website has a list exchanges, pools, and wallets on the site "https://btcgpu.org", which you can currently now access after this morning DDoSing.
Yes they mining will commence on the 1st of November, to answer the questions with why
The team is mining a total of (0.476%) I believe it was, BTG, to later support funding for the team, and later development

you can find out more specifically about that on page 9? I think it is

https://btcgpu.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/BitcoinGold-Roadmap.pdf

I'm personally waiting for wallets to accept the snapshot from earlier and post the actually wallet in their services.
considering the snapshot happened hours ago, and still haven't seen any wallet accepting "BTG" as its own "format"

i also see some pools ofering to mine BTG from 1 nov.
But BTG gets forked at 25 okt?
What's up with those 5 days?
i think the first phase is crucial for miners as i expect the difficulty too shoot to the moon

For a "new" coin like this how long would it usually take for mining software to be released? Is it just an adaptation of existing equihash mining software that will be done very quickly?

If the BTG developers wouldn't act so shady on Github and would answer our (pool software developers) questions truthfully and helpful, we would be much further along providing usable pool integrations and miners.

I'm on Bitcoin Gold slack, from what they said, you can't solo mine it.

That makes no sense. If you can mine on a pool, you should be able to solo mine. Whether it makes sense to solo mine is a different question.

Hey the Bitcoin Gold devs told us that in the slack.  Ppl were upset.  I really don't think the devs know what is going on as they've changed things quite a few times now..  ico, no ico, no premine, premine, the list keeps going on and on.

Yep, lots of unanswered questions and the lack of transparency is definitely a problem. An anonymous lead developer isn't a good sign either. Be careful trying to claim your 'free' BTG.

I have a few bitcoin in an exchange. When they split the coin, I will sell it.

I'll do the same thing

You're right, this sonds like it could be a case of a miner who doesn't want other people
getting into mining it so they have a higher chance of finding blocks. Pretty much the only
thing I've heard about Gold is that you'll be able to GPU-mine it, though admittedly I haven't
looked into it at all.

You can solo mine it but the difficulty will be so high that it will be near  impossible to find a block so it is better to mine on a pool.
I myself is planning to mine bitcoin gold with my 48 RX 480AMD cards as soon as the mining is available for public, right now the dev are mining themselves
Devs are saying you can't solo mine it.  Also the fork is on 25 Oct, so the devs can't be mining it as it's still 2.5 days away.
