Hawaiian scholars argue that cryptobinary can heat the atmosphere by 2 degrees in just ten years. According to them, 69 million metric tons of CO2 appeared in the atmosphere in 2017 due to mining, and if nothing changes, the atmosphere will heat up by 2 degrees Celsius in the next two decades. This is a catastrophic indicator that can lead to a global environmental disaster.
what do you think about this?
is it worth thinking about it?
There are a lot of things that cause global warming more than mining and should be considered.
I think that beta-formation causes very small quantities and does not affect this degree in global warming.

Mining causes global warming?!

Let's hope so. Because we need all the GW we can get just to survive the ice age that is coming.

It might be dangerous in the future but for now i think we should keep mining and I believe the future is going to take care of itself.  Many environmental pollution has been said before concerning one technology or the other and I strongly believe that this is one of those things and we should not over worried ourselves.

Global warming is very real, you can see it if you travel a lot like I do, and compare with how it was like, only a few decades ago. I've been flying several times over the Alps without seeing any snow, that would have been impossible 50 years ago.
...

Sounds like it could be a pretty good match for what one would expect from 'stratospheric aerosol injection', especially if the goal is, at least in part, to steer 'rivers in the sky' from one geographic location to another.  Doing so could have vast military, geopolitical, and economic advantages (especially with 'weather futures' on the market.)  Some of these ideas have been since long before any of us here were born.

For my part, I'll not be blaming CO2 as a Pavlovian response.  Bad conditioning I guess.  Or maybe it's the many hours/days of research I've done...including just looking up into the sky around my place over the last half-decade.

Now, what are the facts: mining consumes a lot of energy, right? But who's at fault, here? It's not mining, it's greed. I don't know how many miners there are, but if there was only a tenth of all miners (90% energy saved), BTC would be working just as well. Nobody would notice any difference. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Global warning caused by everything produced in the world.

Using of airconditioner are the main reason for it,so just stop using it and you can save world from global warming. Cheesy

Well, good. We need global warming to survive. More global warming produces more warm land for growing crops for food... and space to live on. It also places more moisture into the air, so that the ultraviolet light from the sun has more water to convert into H2O2. We need more H2O2 to purify the earth from disease so that Big Pharma will die from lack of being needed.

Anything that we use now contribute to global warming,
Cell phones, vehicles and even the foods that we eat if it is process food,
Avery company contributes to it.
And anyone is responsible so what could we do about it?

Any device which uses electricity to produce thermal energy for the purpose of heating something is conducive to performing proof-of-work mining 'for free' from an energy perspective.  That would include items such as wall heaters and water heaters.

As I mentioned above, it is common-case to sink excess energy into the environment in the form of heat in times of over-supply (like when there is to much sunlight shining on one's solar panels and the grid cannot absorb it.)  This would also be a use-case for proof-of-work mining 'for free.'

Of course the hassle and expense of designing, producing, and integrating mining gear means that it may or may not be worth it.  That depends more on proof-of-work blockchain developments than on energy systems.

---

Note that 'global warming' is a scam.  When it was initially conceived of as a scare tactic to help the wealthy obtain more control (see 'Club of Rome') the idea was that the waste heat from industrial processes themselves would kill us all.  That didn't wash from the perspective of thermodynamics.

Another thing which didn't pan out was was the Hubbard (of peak oil fame) idea of fossil fuel scarcity.

The CO2 scare kills two birds with one stone and the two above fake problems can be harmonized in the form of 'cap-n-trade', 'carbon credits', etc.  This centralizes control of entire world's economies into the hands of a few elite, and creates the 'scarcity' which the technocrats of the 1930's (including chiefly Hubbard himself) needed to justify using energy (denominated in BTU or equiv) as a new monetary system.

All around the world without electricity there is nothing possible, in this regard global warming will happen with each and everything. Mining is not an exception as it has got more power consumption. This is possible to be eradicated when we go on renewable sources for the mining power consumption.

With the Green New DealTM, fossil fuels will be eliminated, so no matter how much electricity crypto mining uses, it will not add to global CO2 output.

Electricity will also probably be too expensive (and unreliable) for mining to make sense unless price or difficulty changes dramatically if the GND is passed.

Proof-of-work mining will always be profitable for people with lower than average power costs (on a world-wide basis) and unprofitable for those higher than average costs.

It makes no difference the value of the crypto or the difficulty.  Things will approach this equilibrium, or at least keep chasing it if the various dampening factors are strong enough.

The most problem that can cause global warming comes from the gas from the vehicle people use which is produce CO2. We can see in a big city which there are so many vehicles in every day, making pollution in everywhere, the air that we breathe in was contaminated with CO2 which is not healthy for our bodies.

I don't think that the mining process will cause global warming because the mining itself use electricity. But if you say, the real mining that happens in real life in many countries can cause global warming then I agree with that because not just global warming that will happen, but it also gives damage to the environment.

mining is why bitcoin is trash i wonder till today how nakamoto was able to advertise this trash with so many idiots following him globally...

What are you doing on satoshi's forum then? Trolling of course.

How does Bitcoin mining produce CO2? Since when does a miner produce gasses? It produces heat, that's all.
Now what does produce CO2 in high amounts? Let's start with cars. Your gas cooker produces it and your heater. Maybe we'll stop heating our houses with natural gas and coal and stop driving cars and you'll see how emissions will decrease.

Not only mining activity, I guess. Mismanagement and overuse of energy are also make a signficant role on producing carbon emissions. Deforestation, manufacturing activities, and breeding-cattling industry too. Do not underestimate the pollution produced from hundreds-thousands of cattle's farts in one location.

Yes, it is a huge problem that puts us all in mortal danger due to planetary collapse.  Please do continue to point it out as often as you can Wink

You don't have to worry about it because the market and the design of the coin will correct this.

See the main reason people are complaining today? bitcoin price fell, so its not profitable to mine anymore... Exactly, everyday that passes mining will become less profitable.

There are less miners, and they have to buy more and more expensive machines, until eventually even the most efficient of machines will not be profitable, unless the miner invested in free renewable energy, such as solar panels.

And you know what, this is GOOD.

Yes, bitcoin price will go up, and will give mining some more breathing again, but slowly every breath will be shorter and shorter, until the last remaining miners are all those with "free" renewable energy. What needs to be done? Nothing. It is working as intended.

The 2°C are, by the way, the entire CO2 human consumption, not "cryptobinary" (I'm assuming you meant cryptomining).

At the same time electric cars are coming and things will stabilize

There is so much rubbish talked about global warming. The biggest contributor to global warming is the sun, lets abolish the sun. That's about as sensible a suggestion as many that I've seen in the media.

The 'global climate change' thing is a sham geared toward justifying handing various kinds of global control to a small group of insiders.  But just for fun lets pretend that 'sustainable' energy solutions are actually needed to 'save the earth':

An Achilles heal of lots of the 'sustainable energy' solutions have is that they are not predictable and/or not continuous.  Solar, wind, hydro, etc.  This means that for periods of time vast oversupplies are inevitable under a build-out which is big enough to do any good.  When an oversupply happens the excess energy is dumped off as waste.

Proof-of-work cryptocurrency mining changes the dynamics and the economics.  In having a profitable way to 'dump' energy oversupply, a build-out which was  marginal at best  may actually make economic sense.

In other words, under the current idiotic dogma associated with the green dolts, "Mining causes global cooling."

I personally think that climate change is real but modern problems require modern solutions. If we manage to get cleaner electricity, I think it would be safer to mine bitcoin compared to conventional forms of mining. The current study going around which claims the 2 degree Celsius increase in global temperature while using only 0.1% of global electricity produced isnt credible and none of the established scientists and statisticians have recognized it. It is just FUD from the mainstream media and as more research will be done towards the cause, the truth will be out soon enough to be in our favor.
