Why not buy a gpu or two if it's for fun? You can even play games simultaneously with it, and the heat output is useful in winter. Also you can resell it if you want out.

This is the best option

If you buy 2 blades with that amount and you use your 20GHps, you should mine around 0.00197 BTC per day and it will take you 50 days to mine a bitcoin, at current difficulty level.

I'm looking to mine for fun with around $500. Which is the best option, 2xasicminer blades? I live in US.
This is strictly for fun, not to necessarily make profit, so advice not to buy or buy btc on exchange don't count. Smiley

Just buy 1 USB erupter for fun... don't spend $500 since you won't make your money back...

It seems like fury is $100 for 2.6gh, but blade is $200 for 10gh... Wouldn't blade be better?

Might want to consider the new USB sticks like the red fury one.  I'd imagine asicminer will be putting out new upgraded ones before too long too.

I'm not sure how losing lots of money could be fun.  It'll take you forever to generate 1 BTC for $500 because ASIC developers and resellers are greedy, even during these exploding difficulty times.  Where if you catch the possible upcoming correction you could get more BTC for that money and watch it grow over time.  That seems more enjoyable to me.

You can spend a lot less money if you just want to learn how to mine with a shitty USB stick or something.

Bluefury is what you want. Asicminer blade use too much power consumption.

Blades are a lot of fun with low maintenance.  I have to admit i did like the days of USB's lighting away though.  Since hubs + usb's are sold out on sets i believe on group buys i would do blades.
