A friend of mine is lucky enough to have a lot of money and he is asking me info on entering the mining world. He wants to mine more than buying bitcoins.

I have checked the forum and many other websites and it is my understanding that he can't buy anything and start mining right now. KNC is sold out and Cointerra has only the March batch available. Is this correct? Is it also correct that no other hardware would make sense right now? For example, he could buy a bunch of Asicminer blades but I don't think that would be profitable, even if he buys 50 of them.

Thanks a lot!

Your friend is lucky.

I got my Saturn miner from KnC a month ago, since then added two chips more from KnC generation 1 (28nm ASICs), and is now mining around 500GH/s.

KnCminer is pre-selling to current customers a 20nm miner at 3TH/s (3000 GH/s) for US$ 10K (9,999), with 20% less power consumption. Speed is guaranteed by them, and refunds can be request up to pre-delivery.

Given their excellent record so far (the Saturn was supposed to be a 400 GH/s and is a 500 GH/s, mine was delivered on time, and also the additional chips), I tend to trust them a lot, compared to others.

Unluckily I don't have money to invest now. So if your friend wants to, we can do a partnertship and get some of those Neptunes (delivery time is going to be Q1/Q2 2014).

What's the deal for new customers wanting Neptunes?

If you need to buy miners right away, there is the in-stock sale...

Just got the word that Bitmain AntMiner is going to have the 3rd round of sale but this time it's a group buy setting.  Price came down a little bit.  Auction was 4.75 BTC but the Group Buy is 4.25 BTC to include the International Shipping.

It looks like this is the manufacture backed Group Buy.

Textplorer is the member running the In-Stock Group Buy and the Thread is here:

If he's got brains along with the money. However asking someone else to give him adviceby going through forums sadly points in the opposite direction.
All the more reason to offer guidance. Smiley

CEX.io is awesome.  Yes it is expensive per GH/s, but you can buy and sell GH at will.  You buy them and they are instantly put to work mining.
I currently have 150 GH/s generating roughly $100 per day.
