Looks like Philippines sub section now have a moderator so I'll be locking this thread for now since it already served it's purpose.
Congratulations to Dabs!

I suggest that we gather first those who are capable and interested to be a moderator, ask them if they want to be a mod, then if they agree and they want to be a mod let the admins do the rest, let the admins choose which of them is fit to hold the position... thats just my suggestion...  Smiley

In my experience, our local board is still good and I think mod is not yet needed, since there are only few users to attend to. Besides, most of the user who are enrolled in signature campaigns are focused on threads outside the local. Unless many disputes/conflicts arise between the local forumers which needs mediation.  Smiley
So when do we need a moderator, when the sub is messy? Come to think of it we're escalating remember this" prevention is better than cure".

You do not need a specific moderator to keep your board clean. I assume most of the members are decent people and that you can work out any differences among yourselves. If that fails you can still report posts and/or discuss posts right here in meta. Doing this will also make it easier later on to decide which members would be suitable to moderate the sub forum, if the need for a specific moderator is high enough.
Actually your wrong on this matter. For starters we can't report since staff wouldn't know if what were reporting is valid or not since they don't know the language so those reports will be left without someone handling them. We can't discuss all the reports here in meta if reporting users through the "Report to moderator" button fails since the whole meta section would be flooded completely with those reports and it would surely be annoying to most. for instance ever since a subsection was given to us, the following thread should have been locked: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/moderator-for-philippines-sub-section-1340116 Since it's more of a off topic thread (has been like that for a long time) and there isn't any use for it now, since we already have our own subsection and some of users who post there, make little to no effort into actually contributing. To cut everything short, the need for someone to moderate Philippines section is actually worst than it looks to some so there should be one at least who would sort everything out before it's too late to handle since some will get used to it and then it would be a bigger mess that could be easily managed.

I think we should have our own moderator now. Its better to have now while the sub is not messy. We should maintain the cleanlines of it. Dabs is the most fit in that position since he is a legend and has a green.

I think theymos would say "open a thread in your local board and discuss about who should be the moderator, once you will have find a name send me a PM" or something like that....
Something like that is being discussed in the Philippines sub-section already but the language used is our local language and I guess theymos and the rest of the staff cannot understand our language making it impossible for them to decide based on the suggestions and feedback from each user from our country. Just like what mexxer shared which is helpful for us in suggesting who will be the possible moderator and mexxer could have not shared that to us if this is posted using our local language.

1. I dont see any reason why a good candidate for mod shouldnt have a paid signature, please explain further Smiley
Not exactly, not have it all, but if he posts just for payments ,  there'll be a lot of complaints coming in about mod himself spamming. Same went for hilarious last I remember, he has since started making very few posts.
2. I dont understand this aswell, why doesnt frequently participate in marketplace discussions?
Users who participate in marketplace discussions usually end up being one-sided/non-neutral. A moderator should be neutral.

Might be too early to have a mod of their own. At any rate, although Dabs is a good choice, he seems to want the position for the BTC it offers and might not be frequently online to moderate the section.
Personally I'd look for these qualities in a mod:
1) Doesn't participate in a signature campaign, even if he does, makes comprehensible posts, not solely for payments
2) Doesn't frequently participate in marketplace discussions
3) Has good decision skills
4) Is mostly neutral
List goes on, but these are the most important ones IMHO.

3. Agree to this, a mod should have this so he/she must have fair judgement on what he/she will see in the local thread.

4. Yes this is the most needed of all

Since Philippines now have it's own sub-section, maybe it's about time to discuss who will be the best person who will act as Moderator for that section to make sure everything is running smooth on that side of the world. So lets try to drop some name's please and see why he/she is fit for that role.

I'll start with Dabs

He is here for quite some time now and very knowledgeable about the hows and why's of Bitcoin. He is a trusted guy and never heard of anything negative about him.
