It's not new, it depends on the mod. I know that mprep adds a note to explain the merge of posts (we can't properly merge 2 posts/topics, that's why some mods edit the first post and delete the second one), I do that kind of thing too. The best thing to do is to avoid double posts.

IIRC, we were testing the telegram bot if he'll get two separate notifications for a post quote and a "@" mention that time.
I get this deleted message as well just earlier today from my post on Report plagiarism (copy/paste), reporting copy-paster users.
