@IKIK
You should have read the entire thread before posting. It's all there. It has been explained which members have the ability to change usernames and why. Certain individuals who don't belong to those special groups have had their requests to change their usernames granted, but those are a few individuals and very rare cases.

Good luck.

I have gone through my account and I didn't see any place you can change user display name I think this challenge is ascribed to every bitcointalk user. For this reason I see no member is capable of solving that your problem except admin or moderators. So I advice you draw the attention of the admin or moderators to aid solution to your problem.

Theymos has said in the past, that he does not intend to lower the cost of VIP and donator accounts. This means for all intents and purposes, no one else will ever purchase a VIP or donator account from the forum. Theymos has said that he may create additional paid memberships in the future. The Copper Membership account costs about $35, and the cost is periodically adjusted for the price of bitcoin.
The price of the Copper membership is now closer to $25. Not sure when and how often this changes. The reason the copper membership fees change is because the forum wants and expects those to be bought.
As I mentioned before, theymos manually changes the price of Copper memberships so that it has a fairly consistent cost in USD.

That can't be said for the VIP and Donator tags. theymos knows very well that no one will ever pay those amounts again, and even if he lowered it to 1 BTC each, how many of you would pay $60 grand to get a special tag under your username? And please don't tell me that 1 BTC = 1 BTC. If you want me to believe you, go out and buy a loaf of bread for 1 BTC because that's how much it was worth back in the day. Or pay 10 BTC if you are a true hodler. Where are those receipts? Cool
IIRC from reading old threads, the cost of a VIP membership was approximately the cost of one month's hosting. The forum's hosting costs have subsequently grown, but not as much as the price of bitcoin.

There may be an argument to periodically change the cost of a VIP account to be in line with x number of months worth of hosting. This would probably lower the cost to be several thousand dollars, but would not be anywhere near the millions of dollars it costs currently.

You can get your display name changed as a Donator as well. Only 10 BTC. Quite a discount over a VIP account. You also get access to a super secret section of the forum for Staff and Donators where we discuss secret handshakes and code words. I highly recommend. As has already been stated on this thread though, starting a new account is a cheaper alternative.
As if that can be afforded by some individual, it still is expensive as hell even if it is less than 40 Bitcoin. There should be a warning when you are registering your account that your display name is going to be a permanent.

You have made 16 posts. If you want to change your display name, I would recommend that you create a new account. In order to have permissions to change your display name, you need to be a VIP account, and in order to get a VIP account, you need to donate 50BTC, or about $2.6 million at current prices (when this was first offered the price of bitcoin was much lower). Sometimes the forum administration will change your display name at the request of a forum member if they have a compelling reason. I believe that in the past, compelling reasons would include being potentially doxed based on your current display name, being a prominent forum member, making substantial contributions to the community, and similar.

They need to reconsider vip status price lmao, 0.1 BTC would be good at current prices tbh
I believe a VIP membership cost around $50 or so when it was originally made available. To make the cost consistent in dollar terms, the price would need to be well below 0.1 BTC ($5,900).

Maybe a new paid membership that costs a few hundred dollars will allow users to change their forum handle every so often.

I think 10 BTC is now worth around $630,000 which is quite impossible for anyone to just throw such amount to the donation box, I was hoping there would reduction in the VIP and Donator prices since the current prices were set when Bitcoin was around $800-$1000. The 50 BTC for Vip status is about %30 share of the current Bitcointalk worth(121 Btc)

You also get access to a super secret section of the forum for Staff and Donators where we discuss secret handshakes and code words.
This isn't attractive enough IMO.

we can always track them with their Unique generated code assigned to them when they were registering for a bitcointalk account,
As. Mentioned by other users, it is very possible to track users even if they change their display name, as the username and user ID are still the same and can be looked up, it just poses a bit of an identity issue;
Users are identified first by their display name, very rarely do we note down user IDs of different users, if such username is changed those who identified the user by it would have a hard time discovering the new account, except they know how exactly to search for it. Newbies would be exposed as they may not be too savvy on forum matters.

Instead of abandoning the account and creating a new one, why no find a lasting solution to resolved this?
To save mod from all the stress of having to change name request, why not make it open for everyone to be able to change theirs name at their will.

Something like a user will only have access to change name once in 365days!
In addition to DdmrDdmr's comment above, changing the display name opens up the possibility that someone could scam someone under one name, and immediately change their display name to something new. With some research, the culprit could be found, however, it would cause confusion, and may lead to some people giving up and not reporting a scam when dealing with modest amounts.
I get your point and that of and of DdmrDdmr's and Dogepuppy as well, no doubt when you give someone a freewill, in must cases they misused it, it's a natural thing. God gave us a freewill to make decisions for ourselves, it's left for us to decide on what to do with that freewill give to us, be good or bad. The important thing is that God always have he way, since he's the creator, we can't neither run nor hide from him, same thing applied to Bitcointalk users!

What we chose to do with the freewill, like changing of one username, this person can not run nor hide, we can always track them with their Unique generated code assigned to them when they were registering for a bitcointalk account, example my unique code 2842708 even if my change my username, my unique code will not change, hence you can always track me with this code.

In summary, the idea of letting user's be able to change names should be looked upon, let's try new things!

<…> Something like a user will only have access to change name once in 365days!
Seems to me that it could lead to a fair share of attempts to impersonate (especially) through throwaway accounts or alt accounts, were the display username change be open to everyone, even if restricted to once per year. It could also throw people off their tracks when they lose sight of the account’s prior display name at first sight.

Perhaps emphasizing the fact that the chosen display name is normally permanent, could be emphasized more during the registry process though.

Edit: It’s not a question of not being trackable (by Id), it’s rather more not being easily trackable (i.e. viewing the profile information to the left of a post, unless a warning message is displayed, which may defeat the purpose of the name change to begin with).

It's unfortunate that members who have not done any 'evil' are often restricted from participating in this forum because of the evil points system. It seems that IPs from Croatia are 'evil' as I have read remarks from our local people who said they invited their friends to Bitcointalk. Upon registering their first account EVER, they get subjected to the evil fee notice.

@OP
If you have a friend or relative abroad or in a different city, ask him to register an account in your name and give you the login details. Change the password after that if you want. Alternatively, use a fresh proxy when registering an account. I believe those evil points are only calculated when someone registers their account. Once you are registered, you can use the forum from any location without being asked to pay the evil fee.

Where it is mentioned that forum staff can whitelist you but there are no criteria was mentioned for that so it all depends but not sure it happened or not.
Whitelist is not a gift for everyone.

It is opened for every one but there are some criteria. Just my guess
  • You can get acceptance if you are good member.
  • You can get acceptance if you are a good member and send Whitelisting request for your alts. Alts can be accounts for your bots, data scraping, etc.

For plain newbie accounts, I don't think admins or global moderators will accept their Whitelisting request.

Notes
  • Whitelisting is only one time for lifespan of one account.
  • If you are Whitelisted when you are a Full member, you can not get acceptance for Whitelisting again (your second time) when you rank up to Hero member, ie. or any higher rank than Full member.

As said above, you can ask any moderator to whitelist your account but it's less likely to happen
Did the previous admin or staff help other users with the same problem? If this is not the case, maybe the OP could use his current (unblocked) account as a last option.

This is how it looks like when someone used to register from IP which is having evil scores

The only solution is message admin and try to unlock your account or better pay the small fees asking due to this.
Since the OP says that paying a small fee doesn't suit him, another possible option is to try registering an account with another device whose IP is not marked as dangerous.

I have created another account, But when I log in it says "You are unable to post. How to enable posting." When I further research the issue and possible solution I have found that "Your IP address has previously been used for evil on this forum, or it is a known proxy/VPN/Tor exit node, so you are required to pay a small fee before you are able to post messages or send PMs. You can still use all of the read-only features without paying."
Here I need help from senior members

According to this; any forum staff member and some other notable members can manually whitelist me. Paying the fee is not a good option for me. Can you help me unban my profile?
My User name is Arif Wali Nago
As said above, you can ask any moderator to whitelist your account but it's less likely to happen so the only option is to create another account or pay the evil fee which normally few cents if I am not wrong but the network can be the issue for you.

Some accounts usually end up like this. Probably the one you created got banned. The only solution is message admin and try to unlock your account or better pay the small fees asking due to this.

For me its probably the network got some wrong confirmation. Anyway why not used this account the one you used instead?
