I am sure someone will.  In fact I almost signed back up myself.

Easy to get irrationally exuberant I suppose.

Good luck.

Crypto is the separation of Power and State.

First of all, I apologize for the amount of time that has passed since my ability to update this thread and the donation list. In light of that, I am sad to have to say that the time really has come for me to stop having the official capacity of updating this list. I know that it is very important to many. And I know that many have given the equivalent how many thousands of dollars to the development of this excellent cryptocurrency. So, at this time I would like to take applicants for my replacement. How should we, the community, choose the person who should Shepard this task from here on out?

I have recently added up the hours I have spent updating this list. It surprised me. It is not a trivial job, but it isn't that much of a load for someone who has the time to do it.

Bump.

Who will step up to help keep Monero Wild & Free?  Huh

Thanks for your efforts to date.  For me at least, this thread is just in fun.  I haven't the time, resources or skills to contribute in other ways right now, so I appreciate what others do here all the more.  The large donors deserve recognition if they are willing to receive it.  I sincerely doubt we  could have progressed at anywhere near the rate we have without them.  I know there are some also who choose not to be known - thank YOU as well.  What a ride, and we've just begun!

Monero core devs are working hard in the chocolate factory, making us amazing crypto treats like GUI RingCT caramel truffles.

OK sure, any specific project that needs doing gets funded within minutes or hours.

But what about aminorex and fluffy's appreciation for fine wine and tacotime's passion for fake Canadian Mexican food?

Let's not forget smooth and Risto also need funds to hire trolls, to better vex the DashHoles.

We must get this thread moving again.  Time to give until it hurts (or at minimum tingles like peppermint soap on sensitive areas).

I'm tired of investing in what I can "afford to lose"... I want to invest an amount that would be LIFE CHANGING if that investment pays off.

What does it mean by "afford to lose" I don't have debt or bills that I'm worried about. I can lose $10K and be okay, but I certainly dont wipe my ass with $10K so I can't say I can "afford to lose it" like it's chump change.

You should invest in a way that there is as small a chance as possible of all your assets becoming worth zero at the same time. For instance a portfolio of 20% real property, 20% banknotes, 20% gold, 20% mutual/retirement funds and 20% crypto, fulfils this criterion. If real property loses its value, gold goes up to more than make up for the loss. If banknotes lose their value, crypto soars. Etc.

I don't like the "can afford to lose" rule because people misinterpret it to mean "insignificant amount". In fact it means an amount that hurts, yet does not cause house resizing, change in lifestyle or turning to crime to make up for the losses. It can be 10% of net worth, but for some young and relatively poor, even 100%+ is in fact amount that they "can afford to lose", literally.

To have a chance of life changing payoff, you need to invest very methodically, which basically means investing a large enough sum in a quick succession, and then waiting with the investment that it pays off, and never sell. An alternative is to set a selling schedule based on new higher prices, but this method requires more initial capital. I still suggest it because the occasional selling keeps your hand in the game.

Should I buy Monero NOW?  Cool Shocked

You should buy Monero if you like the technology, feel that Bitcoin won't incorporate similar features in the near term and find the price to reflect an expansion of use based upon the technical underpinnings.

Also, this is all risky. Only invest what you can afford to lose.

I'd bring this to the speculation or main thread since it's off topic here. Investing life changing amounts of money and what you can afford to lose are not necessarily mutually exclusive. If you're not near retirement, don't have massive obligations and sleep ok at night with what are realistically risky investments then by all means - contribute meaningfully to projects you believe in.

With Monero... I do think it will gain use as a darkmarket currency. The dev team seems competent and dedicated, and I can see a lot of money flowing into it over the coming years. All this can change overnight though. Yes, BTC can incorporate similar features, the devs can leave for whatever reason among other things that will kill the price.

I want to speculate on XMR but right now its a scary spot to get in when the coin just pumped without a correction...... what do?

@cAPLOCKS, I noticed the OP of this thread is still referencing the old dev fund address - might want to update it to the new address.

Also, not sure what happened, but I am listed 3 times on the 'Community Hall of Fame' list!  Not that I am complaining, but maybe the duplicate entries should be removed Cheesy

Monero core devs are working hard in the chocolate factory, making us amazing crypto treats like GUI RingCT caramel truffles.

And this thread is dead.  Where is the love?    Cry

Do we need not offer tokens of appreciation simply because the forum funding system works so exceedingly well?

OK sure, any specific project that needs doing gets funded within minutes or hours.

But what about aminorex and fluffy's appreciation for fine wine and tacotime's passion for fake Canadian Mexican food?

This is not charity, this is dividend reinvestment!

I'll start by generously providing 1 XMR to the dev fund on behalf of our dear friend TheDashGuy.   Grin

On a more solemn note, I'd like to donate 64 XMR in warptangent's name.  I wish I would've met you; I'd say hey man nice shot.

BUMP!

Ah. The necro thread awakens.  Gimme a moment.
