Given that Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin keys are backwards compatible I'm not sure why creating a key on one chain doesn't result in an identical in another chain. I'm sure many of their customers have performed similar goofs.

are you saying Coinbase needs extra effort (and security consideration) to recover that BCH fund?
In general: yes. But:

but as you can see on BCH explorer, that amount has been moved by Coinbase
I did not catch that earlier when I checked blockdozer. You're right, they have moved the funds already.

I don't see the reason why they cannot simply credit his Coinbase BCH balance
After this new insight (face palm for me), I see no reason why they can't credit it either.

@alexadrr: I don't know what exactly you asked Coinbase support, but I suggest you try again. Something like:

Dear Coinbase,

On November 13, 2017, I accidentally deposited 1.30268380 Bitcoin Cash into my Bitcoin deposit address 1FRqVkAT2owNQnRMr9H25zBj8X6b1PipAs. TxId: d4d12f1e9aeda0834b14f2acfd49855e4bffb7fa1e5a4b836fe5a2505675fceb.
These funds were moved (by Coinbase) on December 20, 2017.

Please credit my account with the same amount in Bitcoin Cash, or the equivalent in Bitcoin.

Regards,
alexadrr

Good luck!

I have already contacted the coinbase support but does not release the secret key.
You'll have to ask Coinbase to recover the funds (about $3000) for you.
---snip---
This thread explains (for kraken.com) why it's not as simple as forking your home wallet: exchanges have security measures in place so that a support employee can't just solve this for you. You'll have to ask for their cooperation, and my best guess would be they can restore forked chains in batches once in a while.

It could very well be they charge you for this, and $500 may not be enough.

5 weeks after tx confirmed, it is being moved/used by Coinbase for their own needs
I don't see the reason why they cannot simply credit his Coinbase BCH balance or equivalent BTC value
they knew the fund was there and moved it, and when he requested it... Coinbase won't answer/help?

Most businesses are unwilling to provide services that are outside of their normal operations, as they do not want to accept responsibility for any mishaps that occur, and are often not covered for such circumstances under their insurance or business policy.

@OP, you can try this page: https://support.coinbase.com/customer/en/portal/articles/2346122-coinbase-error-resolution-process

Unfortunately however, I highly doubt they're going to cooperate for the retrieval of $500.

You'll have to ask Coinbase to recover the funds (about $3000) for you.

From support.coinbase.com, if you send funds from Coinbase to a third party on the wrong chain, this is what they advice you to do:
Quote
I sent funds to the wrong address. How do I get them back?
~
Sent to digital currency address
~
In this scenario, it would be necessary to contact the receiving party and seek their cooperation in returning the funds.
Now I can only assume they'd advice you the same if you send it to Coinbase themselves on the wrong chain.

You would require the private key of the address you sent to to import it back into the correct chain. I don't believe Coinbase allows you to see/copy the private key. Therefore, you should contact their support and explain what has happened. They may be able to help you by either giving you the private key or sending the transaction themselves.
