I was told by my gox today that the other account has exchanged my funds for bitcoins and the only thing I can do now is file a police report. What a joke. Bitinstant assured me that my funds had been frozen in the other person's account.
Do it, seriously.

MtGox knows who this person is.  A subpoena from police would acquire said data.  You could then bring a civil suit against whoever it is to regain your losses, while a district attorney could potentially bring a lawsuit against the person for theft (which it is - you can't just take money from an accounting error if it doesn't belong to you).
If they are even in the same country.

Bitinstant said they've done all they can do and mt gox says they are waiting for an update from the other account holder. I wonder how long this will take... Sad

In the future try another exchange perhaps? Gox has spooked me ever since the hack.

No it hasn't been corrected, mtgox is working with bitinstant to fix the problem so they say it takes times. Mtgox is the only one actually emailing me back so they have good customer service I do believe they are trying for me.

Yet another example of why those accounts need a check digit.

Yup I believe that suggestion was made two years ago when the first case like this happened.   Maybe when coinlabs takes over their deep pocketed investors can afford the cost of adding an extra digit. Smiley

Calm down that was a joke. I've been emailin them since then, because a Japanese law they can't take the money out themselves and they are not getting a reply from the owner of the account. So far it doesn't look good Sad

That's a pretty dishonest thing to do. I would say one day you'll get yours but perhaps you're going to right... this...second.

Contact MtGox with the information, the transaction amount, etc.  MtGox will have your money, so your best bet is with their support team...  Wink
