Scammers (and I know this from personal experience) will often use good/naive people they can control to sign company documents and then contracts for credit, etc. so that they can keep their hands clean when things blow up. They are very, very good at manipulating people and feel absolutely no remorse for doing it. Ryan isn't a very good scammer in that regard but perhaps he's learning still...

Actually, if you refuse to pay your bills and the collectors don't know where to find you they will call your work, parents, siblings, neighbors, etc. so that they can get in touch with you. It's legal to do so in the US at least (with certain restrictions).

They do exactly that here in the UK

Send *polite* email, tweets, facebook, snailmail, etc. to any of his family, friends, employees, school teachers, and acquaintances that can be located. Tell them what has happened and urge them to persuade the thief to return money.

Pressure can be applied without harassment or threats.

Don't play mister nice guys, you will not achieve anything useful. It is very unlikely to get a hold on this guy by legal ways, the only way is to harass his relatives. I don't give a shit if they are guilty or not directly, they are the ones who created this monster and I don't think it is a big deal if they suffer a bit.

I agree, I do not believe anything will be done legally and I also do not believe anyone is getting their money back.
