It's not bad news, it's good news.
Most of those ads were for phishing sites, designed to steal people's log-ins for the exchanges. It gave noobs a bad impression that the crypto space was full of scams and crooks.
That's true. If Google is doing their part in protecting their users from being involved with sites that are intended for scamming, then I don't see anything wrong with their choice to ban such crypto-related ads. I guess that this may be generalizing, but this is the consequence we have to suffer for involving cryptocurrency in such motives. Not only is the reputation of crypto on the line but as well as Google's if they push through with allowing such sites to lure around their platform. It's a smart and safe move for Google.
