Can someone experienced explain more about investing in BTC? Is it basically buy low, sell high or is there more to it?

that is basically it. you buy at a low price and sell at higher prices and enjoy the profit.

but the question is when/where are low and high points? and how can you detect them?
short answer is experience. with experience plus some amount of analysis of the market movements and on top of that information you might have slight chance of speculating those points.

investing in bitcoin may be about investing BTC into companies that can help you make profit (many are HYIP that newbies must stay away), lending bitcoins then receiving back with collateral or trading bitcoins to fiat and vice versa or trading from bitcoins to alt coins then vice versa Grin

The OP asked about investing in Bitcoin. There are two ways to do this. You buy Bitcoins as a hedge against inflation, or as a part of an investment package to protect yourself from the banking crisis that will arrive in the foreseeable future. The other way is to buy shares in organisations that are building businesses based on the bitcoin culture.

Most of the replies seem to refer to trading, this is an active activity rather than the passive investing strategy. Trading has higher risks, and thus higher potential rewards ( and losses).

Yeah you are right and that will become trading. You can also buy BTC now as an investment then hold and wait for maybe 3-5 years (or more) until the price will go to the moon Cheesy Alternatively, you can also invest in BTC then invest your BTC on investment sites, quite risky though but if you are a risk taker, it would be perfect

It really depends on the amount you want to invest, the length of time you want to invest, and the risk you are willing to take. Buying low and selling high sounds good ideally but the volatility of Bitcoin makes it tough to predict that.  You could buy 'low' and then sell at an inflated market prices on a site like localbitcoins.com.

Otherwise, you could invest your coin in dice sites or other ventures.

All depends on how you want to invest.

Do you want to go the lazy route and buy a couple of coins to sit back and relax? Or do you want to sit behind a screen all day staring at graphs and news?

The first is easy, the second is difficult and can also lead to potentially bigger (faster) losses.

You can invest on gambling sites though, like dice sites. the interest is small, but it's worth and not scam. Buy when the price is low and sell when the price is high also good.

Yes it's about buying bitcoin when the price low and selling bitcoin when the price high, and you also need to see the speculation of the bitcoin price because from that you can predict the price.

Predict is to strong of word I would stick with speculate.  Like now with drop in price to around 400 chances are most did not predict that.   And a lot of speculators were wrong.

Speculation can be very far off.  There is nothing that is certain.

Yes i agree, i think speculate is the right word then predict on that. especially the bitcoin price nowdays decrease from two days ago, i thought the price gonna high up to 600.

it is all about experience and information. it is not an easy task though. you have to be always aware of the market and try to gather as much information as you can to try and speculate the markets movement in the future.
then mix that with a lot of manipulations then you will have the bitcoin market which everybody trying to get the piece of action.

Between the buy low and the sell high there is the "hold" step , because price don't go high overnight . You should understand taht bitcoin is a long term investment and you should be good to go .

can you explain why is better trading altcoins then bitcoins to usd?

the only thing that come to my head, is that altcoin can be bough with very low amount of money, and you cna buy a very high quantity due to their low value

then if they increase, by few point % you can do a lot of profit, not sure if this strategy is working good anymore

ok, thanks for fast replay, i will wait until  another one will write down his idea about this

Simple as that may sound but its hard to predict whens the good time to buy/sell. But thats all there is to it. You can either day trade which is buy/sell several times in a day or hodl for a long term. Start with a small amount and in time you'll learn with trial and error.

Lol, that's basically the whole principle behind investing in anything.  You have to have iron cojones to buy a big amount of bitcoin and to hold it.  Volatility can be breathtaking, and if you're a nervous person this isn't going to help.  But that's it in a nutshell.  There's no dividends being paid, and there's nowhere you can deposit btc and earn interest.  Yet.  Beware of scams and there are many on this forum.

It's not as simple as buy low sell high.  As market is ever changing you really can't know those points unless you got lucky on speculation.   There are so many ways of investing in BTC I think you have a lot of reading to do.

Easiest is long term holding.  It might not be the quickest on gaining but over long term the hope is BTC goes up so your investment goes up.

Not really, thats basically it. You can do day trading but your still buying at the low points and selling at the high points. Either that or i notice some people sell bitcoin on ebay for ridiculous mark ups but i suppose you need to since paypal is used and the chance of a charge back is high.

I should add that you really need bitcoin as well if your going to get into trading altcoins since you buy altcoins with bitcoin.

Buying altcoins is definitely a good way of investing in bitcoins but not all altcoins are trustworthy. Even litecoins aren't good enough to trust and hence the best is only trading with bitcoins on trusted exchange websites.

@OP: There are many other ways which we can consider while investing in bitcoins like buying gift cards for low prices and re-selling them. Also, trading in gold via bitcoins can be considered a good investment.
