Very interesting thread. This has made me to rethink about one of my ideas that i was willing to implement.

Love the graph's. They provide a great visual to just how dominate BitCoin is. BitCoin will always be the king of the cryptocurrency world!

What makes any crypto currency worth anything? I think it's the fact that people accept it as currency. Bitcoin definitely has a networking effect working in it's favor at this point. I'm also cautiously optimistic about Ripple XRP. They say the coin is just a way of validating the system, but is it really just that? The government could outlaw rogue currencies or launch attacks on exchanges that trade them such as Mt. Gox, but if the currency was disguised as something else, then it could possibly withstand legal assaults. Controlling the currency and money supply is a major source of power in the U.S. and every other country. I don't see governments giving up that power without a fight. Right now it's not a problem because it's too small. The implications of Bitcoin going mainstream are enough to give bankers, tax collectors and the government nightmares.

And now there is FTC and CNC
(feathercoin) and (CHNcoin, Chinacoin?)

Yeah IDK how well they will do in the future

They seem to be ridiculously overvalued right now, but I guess that's expected. Although when I first noticed FTC I expected it to be almost worthless, yet its worth around .50$ right now... this market is going to crash fast

Will be interesting to watch these market cap figures over time and come back here to see where they were...interesting times!

I have to say, the steady rise of Litecoin has definitely peaked my interest.

Wow, so many coins. What if I created my own coins. How much I need to invest? If you can create a new coin just let me know.

It is not the way it seems. Bitcoin is much bigger than any of the others. Litecoin comes in a distant second, and the rest barely register. Here is a list of the market capitalization of some of the currencies.

CurrencyMarket Cap (BTC)
Bitcoin11079775
Litecoin   474137
PPCoin    43086
Namecoin    39232
Devcoin    10662
Terracoin    10101
NovaCoin     8915
Ixcoin     3258
