@everyone ..Mr Beast states they stole a bitcoin and they showed a picture of a copper btc coin but then says they passed by his keys (I believe, video has been taken down now)..anyone know if that’s what was taken, a copper coin ? Curious as a btc collectibles nerd.

It was his laptop that was among the stolen item.  He said he has the paper top of the laptop keyboard saying Bitcoin private key so he thought his Bitcoin investment was gone but when he checked it, the coins are still intact and he moved it asap.
Here is another link for the video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghG6Uv_j5Xw

The discussion are really funny, Mr. Beast is just lucky that Bitcoin at that time isn't as popular as today and the guy who stole his laptop has no idea what Bitcoin is or just in a hurry that it missed the paper that has the private key which is lying on top of his laptop.

Some of you may have seen this clip before, and I’m assuming a good amount of you know who Mr Beast is (if not he’s a highly followed social media “influencer” I guess you could say, but an actually cool/good guy who gives back a lot to people).

Here he talks about how his house was robbed, but the idiot robber just passed by his Pc which had a piece of paper sitting next to it that said “public and private keys” right on it lol. He laughs at what morons they were. Reminds me of the time my car was robbed of about $10 in change but they left my $600 radar detector and $2000 dvd player just sitting there lol.

Lesson here, not all robbers are this stupid, hide your keys!

I saw that clip and if I am not wrong he mentioned it as laptop not desktop just testing my memory skills and he said the wallet contains 2 million dollars worth of Bitcoin which he was planning to use on the upcoming video.

Don't leave your private keys in a table or in sticky note or in digital form. Just keep it safe as much as how you keep it if you had that amount of fiat in your wallet.

Even though even today not everyone knows how non-custodial Bitcoin backups work, I assume this was years and years ago (probably pre-2017 bull market) when Bitcoin wasn't that much of a household name yet.
The video was uploaded 7 months earlier so don't know when exactly this happened with him and in past also btc was well known but the robbers might not be having idea about it or they were most probably looking for some physical goods they can instantly sell for cash. But Mr beast was lucky that they didn't get it otherwise it was big amount to loose and how can he just normally put the keys on paper next to pc I can't understand? So this is a lesson that we should safely backup our keys and also have house safety.
I think this is old because do you remember before that before creating a wallet the platform will recommend to the user to write it also in paper not just save it in your computer but in today's date it isn't recommended as it could be easily misplaced. For sure Mr. Beast right now invested to hardware wallet as it is more secure and he is for sure putting it into his vault

Just a confirmation, Mk4 is right, this happened pre-2017 bull market. This [1] article goes bit into details.

Thanks for looking this up, appreciate you both…been meaning to myself. I just found out who Mr Beast was maybe within the last year, and I still don’t watch his stuff..so it escaped me when it actually happened.

That's why anonymity is important when we are involved in crypto and bitcoin, robbers will definitely evolve with the times and they will also know bitcoin much better than us. I never follow the news Mr. Beast, is he an influencer or a public shop accounted for on social media and lucky the robbers didn't take the PC or the piece of paper that was on it's "public private keys". Stupid again why Mr. Beast keeps it there, is he not stupider than the robber. LOL

I remember a film starring Jackie Chan with the title New Police Story, even though the story in this film is not about bitcoin robbery, but what we see is their ability to rob banks. So it is possible that future robbers will no longer target fiat currency, but bitcoin or other crypto.

The weirdest part about this is that a robber to be expected of knowing what a private key for a bitcoin is. I understand that millions are aware of bitcoin, but even among those millions, how many really know the private key of a bitcoin? Plus are we sure when he got back? Like maybe the robber didn't want no part of that laptop and sold it to some pawn shop somewhere and the pawn shop didn't know about it. There are so many tangibles to this story that it would require a robber, who is aware of bitcoin, who ise aware of how bitcoin private key works, who is aware of how to withdraw to somewhere else being tracked, aware of being able to sell it, and get away with all of this. I am sorry but there aren't that many people who are smart enough to do that and can't earn a buck so would have to steal from other peoples homes, if you knew that, you would be able to earn much more and wouldn't need to do this.

Happens all the time with these robberies. Most of these people would just pass by items that are "too hassle to carry around" like PCs/hard drives and the paper wallets to boot, or in your case the radar detector and the dvd player. You'd literally spot it from a mile away, and not to mention the fact that they'd rouse suspicions from the fact that they are literally carrying shit that's not supposed to be carried in broad daylight/night time, at least without a receipt.

This also just goes to show that bitcoin, when done right is your robbery-proof buddy. Cold wallets for instance will literally shield you from online hacking and getting your coins stolen over the internet, plus the unassuming looks of it too makes it not stand out from robbers!

The reason why they passed by without having a thought that something important can be in the laptop is because they only came for the money and some other valuables like necklace, shoes, Gold and diamond they can resell and make there money without thinking that he might have some other things that can be very important in the laptop. This is why what you don't know is bigger than you. If they had the opportunity of checking his laptop, they would have found it there but they decided to go for those things they think it's important and can be resellable to make more money.

I've seen the video before and I believe those robbers or thieves were probably Bitcoin illiterates since we all know that not a lot of people in the US at that time knew much about Bitcoin and how it works and how to use it. And those thieves were probably totally illiterate drug takers as well and all they needed was something that they could sell for some money.

And even if the guy wasn't what I'm saying, he probably was in a rush and didn't notice the paper that had the private keys written on it, otherwise, someone would probably not let something like that get out of their hands.

I heard that some people mentioned this character on the forum, but I didn't pay attention to him, and now that I see how he behaves, I'm not too sorry for that. I don't know if anyone has ever confirmed that the robbery even existed, and it's no secret that these so-called YT influencers exaggerate or deliberately lie in order to increase their viewership - in other words, they will do everything for a few more clicks.

I would not laugh at thieves at all because they take what they can sell quickly and easily, but at people who keep their private keys on a piece of paper next to their personal computer or even worse in the computer itself. The question arises, who is the real fool in this story?
I'm a little skeptical regarding Mr. Beast due to constantly seeing the same people in his videos. Certainly, he's giving away a lot of money, which he's generating from his videos that almost always go viral. I don't question his story; it's very possible to be true since his character has blown up since the first of his days, which made him a potential target. Moreover, I'm not surprised that the thief didn't acknowledge the private key; not everyone has a full understanding of Bitcoin, and it's likely that the thief could have searched for what it was when it was already too late; Mr. Beast had already moved his funds into a new wallet.

Lol, actually the robber who broke into Mr. Beast house was a petty robber who didn't have a thief's certificate.  Cheesy
They are truly technologically illiterate so they do not understand what is written on the paper. I'm 100% sure if the robbers take Mr. Beast PC, they will never know the PC has more assets than what was already taken.
Even though this story sounds very funny, we still have to be careful with the private key. Valuable lessons can be drawn from anyone's story, maybe Mr. Beast is still lucky because the robbers who entered his house do not understand the technology that is being developed, but different cases can happen to other people.

Went through the post and clicked on link to see what happened in the video, after listening to what Mr beast said, it sound so funny for thief did not bother to go with private key,but I will not say that the thief not intelligent enough that why he/she did not bother to make attempt with private after seen, maybe it attention was not there.believe me that many thieves always have their own targets before going to any house to Rob and it  is their target they will aim mostly and they do think going away with anything they can be easily track down.

But all I can conclude from the tale is to always keep your private key properly hidden so that no one will ever accidentally discover it and attempt to steal from you.The simplest way to prevent this is to keep your mouth shut around anyone that you holding any sizable portion of Bitcoin. Any thief who watches this video now might consider the private key to be their target if they discover that is Bitcoin what people are holding mostly nowadays.

Lesson here, not all robbers are this stupid, hide your keys!

All the narrative that you mention showing how robber are stupid and make the readers not think to hide their keys.  Cheesy

Most of the robber usually are those people that didn’t finish school and doesn’t have jobs that why they rely on robbing someone as source of money. I think there’s only few robber that use their brain rather then physical strength. I don’t bother match on the second of my digital asset from a physical robbery since most of them targets the common valuable things. Scammer and hackers are the main enemy of our digital possession though.

One thing I learned lesson here is to leave cash on open space so that robber will focus on it and leave your private keys alone.

But even if he took the paper, he also can't use it because he doesn't know anything about crypto assets. So it was only normal that he would not take it.
It is so easy to learn how to import a private key and sweep the funds to another address, even for a person who hasn't done it before, just a few minutes put into the research and they will be able to do it without fuss. Take note that if an attacker gets your private key while robbing you, they will surely try to sweep the funds as soon as possible, probably when they still have you under their control, because if you are ever in a situation were someone steals your private keys, you have to act fast by sweeping all the funds you have in that address to a new one that has a different seed, and you may probably do it faster if the attacker lets you go and leaves with the keys, or if they have to do a research on how to use it while they are gone.
Maybe it's very easy if the thief is used to using existing technology but to access the private key, the thief must have basic knowledge of bitcoin so he can take the funds in the wallet. And not many people out there know how to do it unless they've read some information about bitcoin and know a little about using a personal wallet and making transactions. If they don't, they won't be able to use it and it will take time to access it, giving us time to move all the funds in that wallet to another wallet. And you should not leave anything related to your wallet anywhere because it is at risk of being stolen by someone.

Not stupid but are just not aware of things. Fortunately, the robber is not that computer literate or an avid follower of him 'coz if the robber is, for sure he would know what to really steal. But it is indeed true, digital wallet would be only prone to the owner itself forgetting the private keys and/or missing the device wherein assets are being held; it won't be easily stolen or accessed. Same thing with bank accounts I think, they just have different access features.

He should just be thankful that what happened did not go to worse such as stealing more than half of his wealth in that instance. Should be a lesson for him to improve the security of his house to not be easily accessed by outsiders.

Don't let others control your BTC -> self custody
lol The thief, after watching Mr. Beast's video, will probably hate it for the rest of his life because a piece of paper can make him rich instantly. However, it proves that bitcoin is still not popular with everyone, so the thief did not pay attention to that piece of paper. But it also needs to be considered that once bitcoin becomes more popular and widely known, there will be no more luck. So protect your property carefully.

Or he'll be happy that Mr Beast did not have any good security systems or cameras at home.
He's making millions from youtube and holds a lot of expensive stuff at home. He's a celebrity, so there can be fans and stalkers creeping around, yet he doesn't spend a few bucks on security?
You can buy a decent camera system for $1k and 5k will buy you a personalized system with movement tracking cameras that even has its own emergency power source.

I'd say that the thief was dumb but the youtuber wasn't the smartest either.

Don't you think he's wrong to call the rubbers moron? I don't want to conclude by saying that the robbers are not crypto savvy because there are cases where robbers will come to your house, rob you of your money as well as your valuable possessions. He should be thankful to God for blinding their eyes that they didn't think of stealing the laptop because I they had done that, they would have definitely seen the note containing the private keys and taken it as well.
Maybe those thieves been aware about those Privatekeys but they have decided to sweep it on later since the keys is there but Mr. Beast have those back up keys not only stored on his own laptop
but also into other place which he had still the chance to get those coins on accessing those via those PK which it could be still considered lucky  but if it was totally been that stolen then
$2M dollars overall wont really be that much for him or something that he could earn for a couple of months or something like that but basing on this situation then i would really
say that this is some sort a good advertisement of Bitcoin considering on how popular Mr. Beast is on which having that mention about Bitcoin would be at least
having that kind of exposure which it is really that something good.

But that will only be a robber who has an idea about Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, because if they have no knowledge of it, I bet you they can still be in possession of the private key in next 10yrs and yet don't know how to use it. Because just as "Mr Beast" said that when the robbers came, he had on his laptop screen boldly written "Bitcoin private key", of which i'm sure after getting a private key, the next question will be which wallet owns that private key, which I can bet you that the private key of "Electrum" will not work on "Bluewallet" or likewise a bluewallet private key not work on "mycelium" e.t.c, of which it will take a lot of trial and error to be able to locate which wallet owns that private key luckily found.
