If they open sourced Windows XP then I'd be very happy but I doubt that will never happen.

I'm waiting for this too.  Smiley
You're gonna have to wait another 20-30 years.

That would be rather good news but I won't be holding my breath for that to happen.

Perhaps someday Windows XP will be released open source but not for some time yet
We just got through the 1980s 1990s stuff still this is really neat

This part was really cool thank Tim for living long enough to keep a copy
But I didn’t have the source to the earlier version 1.1, and neither, apparently, did Microsoft. Just as I was finishing the first draft of this article, I received it directly from the author, Tim Paterson! We are grateful to Tim for sending it, and to Roy for quickly getting the additional permission needed to release it as well.

Now heres the strange part you think Tim should be really old since were talking about MS-DOS but he is only 56 Smiley

I downloaded it was like Wait 868kb that can't be right then thought oh my  computing has really moved forward we haveprograms super large in comparison to those days lol.

It's going to be a long time wait I think. WinXP was a very successful product and it was successful not a long time ago. It took 40 years for them to open up a MS-DOS. Going down this path we will have to wait another 30 years for the WinXP Grin

Wow, this is really cool to be honest! i wonder if people will start to make custom versions for newer hardware and such Smiley

Yes it is cool indeed. However could have been earlier.

There already exists Freedos. Of course that's not 100% MS-DOS but close enough for most applications.
