Look here for a list of exchanges trading Bitcoin and USD: http://www.bitcoincharts.com/markets/currency/USD.html

The volume column shows you that Mt. Gox is the undisputed volume leader, with almost 10 times the size of runner-ups BTC-e and Bitstamp.
Higher volume means higher liquidity (which is good) but also allows Mt. Gox to charge higher transaction fees (which is bad).

EVERYBODY RELIES ON MT GX HERE?

SEEMS RELIABLE, BUT NOT SO CHEAP COMPARED TO BANKS... IN LARGE AMOUNTS

WHAT ARE THE ALTERNATIVES?

Yes, mtgox is fine, you can transfer for free your bitcoins everywhere, just be aware that for someplaces you need to send from blockchain.info or your wallet!

Neither have the volume that mt-gox has, but both do alternate coins also.

MT Gox has the volume and therefore most liquidity...prices are usually higher on there than Bitstamp though.

I prefer and use bitstamp. It's cleaner, and the SEPA is great

Bitfloor was the best exchange but sadly they got shut down for being little too aggressive with their banking.
What did they do wrong, banking wise? (Never used Bitfloor myself, just wondering)
