Hard to imagine Mark not arbing the gap between Gox and Stamp.

Guess withdrawals will be open when he makes enough coins arbing to cover losses.

If the insiders at Gox try this I sure as hell hope some whistleblower comes forward... and/or they leave a paper trail that eventually busts them.

Doing this would be nothing short of thievery from their clients.

Shenanigans need to start leading to jail time for the perpetrators if crytpo currencies are ever going to see mainstream legitimacy.

Can someone explain to me who is selling on gox for that price?? Seems really dumb to me. If they go bankrupt you won't get your money anyway and if they fix their problems you would have sold your bitcoin for half the price.

I can't believe that in mid Feb 2014 there still are people coming to this forum and asking the same fucking questions over and over and over again.
Unlike bitcoin there is no limit to the number of idiots.

If the owners of mtgox are smart, they should do lots of arbitrage to other exchanges, then they earn some money and use this to slowly withdraw to their customers.. Price will rise and people will have less FUD.

... In essence stealing from their clients while they hold their wealth hostage.  Profitable... but so is robbing banks.  Anything but ethical.
... in essence, that is exactly what normal banks are doing. They lend your money 3 or 4 times the value and gain huge profits. Banks keep the profit for themselves but that's why I'm saying:

The price at Mt.Gox just reflects the fact that (almost) no market is really being made there now, no liquidity, no buyers, no sellers. So arbitrage is not a possibility either.
Price is fluctuating a lot so there are buyers and sellers.

Seems like they'd make a hell of a lot more just running a legit business that doesn't lose all their customers to competitors.

Greed - it is a problem of many.

Simple.

People are afraid they won't ever get their bitcoins from MtGox...

So they're selling them for cash...

Which they can't withdrawal either...

Genius!

How long is it taking to get USD into Mt Gox? Could be the trade of the year if they ever allow bitcoin withdrawal again.

Try sending to Karpeles' personal address, that's how Chinese solved it with huobi. Just a thought though, you may wait out till gox dies and than attempt to withdraw through his personal wallet (maybe even attempt multiple withdrawals).

Quick estimation per 1000 $ USD:

Buy in at price ~50$ (in a few days) -> 20 BTC
At least three fake withdrawals succeed (4 altogether) -> 80 BTC

Sell at rebound on stamp (850 $) -> 68000 $
