RUM AND CARROTS: A PIRATE LIFE FOR ME
that certainly cant be spinned as something positive.  And will certainly cause a lot of panic and rumors until there is some clarification as to why that was done.

Yeah, what the hell are they playing at? They seem to be doing everything they can to cause panic and confusion.

Yep, It's like gox are doing the completely opposite of what they should be doing.

If Mt. Gox's objective is to get the value down under $100 in order to revive "their market" (the Mt Gox btc) but people keep supplying work-arounds, and positive glimmors of light (leak about withdrawal testing) which keep increasing their values then they must do what they can to push it back down.

If they are solvent at $100 or less per real btc , but insolvent at $200 or more per real btc then their actions no longer look stupid.

Good point! I'll be interested in finding out what happens next.

At what point can you become so well versed in fucking up that you become immune to everything.

That point seems to be now.

What I'm trying to say is: being in the peculiar situation they are in now, why risking some more bad PR (deleting all tweets) instead of trying to solve it internally?

If that were to be true, why wouldn't they just modify their service desk system instead of deleting all of their tweets?
This doesn't make sense to me..

Can't say for sure but if I was going to unhook the service system from Twitter I would empty the old Twitter messages. Maybe I'm just too fussy about tidying up.  Smiley

I was also making a joke. I think Mark just ran a really incompetent business and also got fucked by other restrictions and laws etc.

Maybe.

Unless Mark was knobbled and he is just following orders?

What's knobbled?

Good point. It'll be interesting to see how they would pay coins/money back if it came to bankruptcy. A lot of people would be pissed if they tried paying $100 or whatever for coins if people have had them stuck in there since they were much much higher.

A reddit user thinks there could be a more mundane reason for Twitter:

It was linked automatically to a service desk and the user contacted Gox about it - so he thinks they are just setting up their Twitter differently.

Actually i mentioned this to the support management last week about it not being fit for purpose. Looks like they've listened.
Our service desk system was linked directly to twitter meaning that anytime anyone tweeted us, it created a ticket and was responded to via twitter when we resolve the cases.

If gox somehow fix this mess, we will see bitcoin rocket.
But it sucks that one exchange has such a massive impact over bitcoin.

Don't think so.
If people are able to withdraw BTC from gox they will immediately sell their goxcoins on other exchanges, bringing average BTC price down.

It seems like their business plan.

It's clearly a bug with Twitter... Everything will work again when Twitter fixes the problem...

I'm not so sure. No one else has a bug on their twitter.

I think he was making a joke.

ok. Well this is just disgusting behaviour. How dare gox do this to the people. Sad

So the process of erasing as much 'evidence' that could be used against them as possible has started  Smiley

This. Tomorrow there will be an announcement that Mt. Gox is insolvent and disbanding. All bitcoins were lost due to a bug in bitcoin software. In about three weeks another exchange will rise up in Japan to fill its void. It will be a stealth startup that nobody has heard of made up of anonymous veterans of the Bitcoin community and already funded by anonymous Angel investors in the amount of several thousand bitcoins.

Knowledge is Power
Man, I really wanted to think people were being too cynical about Gox, but with their offices moving, ignoring customers, and now this...it really does seem like they're planning to run away with people's bitcoins. I'm REALLY glad they didn't approve my account verification last year when I was just getting into bitcoin.
