Newcomers might lose interest since the bubble popped, but that doesn't mean there won't be another bubble in the future where the media will get into it again.
The new bubble might be for LTC though

1487 in Q now. Its been over 2 weeks since I submitted the documents. Site was up and down in the meantime. But I've been moving up the Q quickly in the past 2-3 days, I guess

Got an email just now:

We are pleased to inform you that the identification documentation you have submitted has been reviewed, and your account has been upgraded to "Verified" status.

Looks like they're clearing off the verification Q faster than ever before  Grin

If you're in Europe screw Gox, use Bitstamp

Not to derail this thread too much, but how are you guys funding your new Mt.Gox accounts?  I created an account (not verified), but I have yet to find a painless/easy way to fund it.

Okpay. Took money out of my card using Liqpay. Used an exchanger to get it to okpay. Beware though, okpay seems to find out somehow that you're exchanging money. They limited my account. I had send my docs there as well then. However, I'd prefer Card --> Liqpay --> Libertyreserve ---> MtGox (via Aurumxchange). Downside - you end up paying about 10% in fees.

Just set mine up today, we'll see how long it takes.  Did the same on Bitstamp too.

FYI I just got verified after a week or so from position 14000ish. Although I had an older (almost 1 year) account, but I'm not sure if they prioritize those. I mainly set it back up in order to cash out a bit to buy more mining equipment.

MtGox took over a week to verify me.

Alternatives:

BTC-e.com - Dealing in BTC/USD, BTC/EUR, LTC/EUR and several inter-cryptocoin exchanges. Typically lags behind a bit on MtGox.
Bitstamp - European based exchange for bitcoins only. Easy costless EUR deposit possible, which is impossible at MtGox until verified. Processed my payment of EUR within a day.

They are processing around 2000 verifications per business day, give or take a few hundred.

I'm about to be verified tomorrow or monday. Around 850th on the queue.
