This project obviously went bust.

In recent months DGC and FTC have forked, meaning that this wallet software no longer works for some of its coins.

@gyruss: The apache and MIT licenses do not obligate the OP to publish the source code, unfortunately for us.

Only unmodified code would need to be released under the same license (and therefore carry a license notice), so the OP is likely in their full right to use modified parts of MultiBit and BitcoinJ.

I am wondering how this project added Quark to their software.  Quark has several differences (hash and precision) that would make more difficult to fork from bitcoinj.  Nevertheless, it can be done because I did it (https://github.com/HashEngineering/quarkcoinj).  A native version of the hash function for proof of work was also developed which was a definite plus for mobile devices.

Interesting, though I'm not interested in paying a that kind of a fee to use it, or to use an app that is a closed source derivative of an open-source project. As clearly stated on the web site, MultiBit and BitcoinJ were used to create this. Although the resulting JAR is obfuscated, simple string searching reveals that indeed MultiBit and BitcoinJ are the sources used. Unfortunately, where MultiBit and BitcoinJ have a few hundred .java files, there are about 10,000 .java files for MuCoWa, so refactoring back to the original source is more difficult.

But, it looks like the original Apache and MultiBit licenses have not been included as part of the package, which I believe is a stipulation of the original works.

My suggestions:
  • Make the open source pieces used open source again.
  • Put those licenses back into the project.
  • Re-evaluate your fee structure.
  • Provide more details into your contact information and who you are, in order to build trust in you as a developer.
  • Add some screenshots to your web site so people can see what they are getting.

Better luck next scam, kid.
Buy a new toy.

What kind of retarded troll are you?  This dev team does actually look legit.  I wish they would release source code and actually support the community, but this is a rather unique product, so I can understand the desire to keep it private.

Not at all. We are a legit company, feel free to stop by and have a nice chat with us: http://rocklogic.at/contact.html

Since the code is obfuscated, would it be possible to monitor the web traffic going out from the wallet to make sure it never sends private keys anywhere?

Is the source code available?

As written above:
No scam possible: The software is written in Java, this means you can decompile the jar file (Google is your friend) and look at the source for yourself!

Thank you for your answer.  The .jar was decompiled and over 92,000 class files were found that were labeled as a, b, c, d ... ZZ.  There is no way anyone can understand obsfucated code (from the linux version).  As a Java developer myself for Android Wallets of various crypto-currencies, I publish all the associated source code on my GitHub account as soon as any new or updated app is released to the public.  Granted most cannot make heads or tails of it, but some can.  Once there was another dev who published some of the source code to GitHub for a lite wallet.  The code still had feathercoin's difficulty adjustment algorithm!

Since this app does charge a 0.15% fee on sent transactions, a purely open source solution would allow people such as myself to comment out that line of code and let the miners take it as part of their transaction fees.

Since the code is obfuscated, would it be possible to monitor the web traffic going out from the wallet to make sure it never sends private keys anywhere?

We are working on implementing Quarkcoin.

If you have 2 wallets (that means you see 2 wallets on the left bar with the "New Wallet" button below it) you can choose which wallet you want to send the coins from.

Wow!  This is exactly what I need.  If this feature would work with Quark this would be absolutely awesome(!) because then I could keep the Business account completely separate from my Personal Quark funds. Really looking forward to Quark implementation.  Thanks!
