Hello,

I’ve invested in a rx480, and I also got a HD7970.
What I’m understanding is that you can’t crossfire these gpu’s,
But you can combine them with some multi GPU program?
Can’t figure this out

You will need two different drivers for both cards. I suggest installing RX 480 driver first, then install the driver for HD7970. After that, may your RX 480 will be troubled (yellow sign in Device Manager). But don't worry, just do a manual update on your RX 480 driver. And you ready to go.

You just need to install the latest AMD Adrenaline driver. The same driver supports ALL GCN cards. I have a HD 7850 2GB card mining UBQ in a rig together with RX 570/580's mining ETH without any problems. If you have a modded Bios on a RX 470/480 or 570 you also need to run the pixel patcher to bypass the driver signature check after installing the driver or the card will have a code 43 error in Device Manager and it won't work. You also need to toggle to Compute mode from Graphics mode in AMD settings.

do I need a special miner?
I'm using now xmrstack, can I adjust the config for this?

By using xmrstack you will be mining CPU coins that have now been destroyed by ASIC cryptonight mining.

I suggest you use Claymore's Ethereum miner instead and mine Ethereum. Check whattomine.com for the most profitable coin to mine with your GPU.

Depending on the coin you want to mine, you will need adequate mining software. So yes, I would say that you need "special" mining program.

From what I have seen xmr-stacks should recognize your GPU's automatically. They should be marked as "device 0, device 1..." and so on. You can find some basic tutorials how to set up xmr-stacks on Youtube.

It is possible to combine them, however it's not recommended due to them being in different series. It would be more convenient to sell your 7970 and purchase a newer RX series. You probably have to install both drivers in order to function.

GPU Miners didn't actually require any compatibility between the Video Cards you are using.
Unlike in Gaming that requires both GPUs to work together to do a single process (although some SLI/crossfires distribute the workload) .
In mining, your GPUs works separately and delivers separate results based on it's computational power to solve an algorithm.

The previous replies told you "how to", I explained to you why.

As far as program for combining your GPU's  (hash rate) is concerned, that will be done by mining software. Mining software will automatically recognize your GPU's (if everything is connected the right way). If not, you will need to tweak software a bit. Rest has been explained by MinedTangerine. If you have more questions just ask.

If you want to mine with them just connect them to a PCI express slots on the motherboard. You can use the 1x PCI express slots with the help of risers.
Example of how to do it: http://www.coinminingrigs.com/how-to-build-a-6-gpu-mining-rig/
