Next question: If I'm starting with 2 GPUs but may do 4-6 in the future, how much RAM would I need to keep this future-proof? Would 8GB be fine or would 16GB be needed? I read that you should use one slot, is that true or was that for a different reason? Also, would there be any reason to get a better CPU if I'm only ever looking at a maximum of 6 GPUs?
Actually, RAM 4GB is enough.
Are you mean Ram slots?
if true, one slot or using all slot no problem. ex 2x4GB or 1x8GB or 2x2GB
Okay good to know that 4GB would be fine. Maybe I'll do 8 just because. Also good to know that 2x4gb or 1x8gb wouldn't matter. Thanks!
Actually yes, but memory prices are cheap compared with GPU. So why not to buy 8-16 GB memory for RAM and save some HDD
Yeah, I figured I'd go with 1 8gb module and if I need to upgrade I can just buy another 8gb module.

no reason for "
why not", if @OP will purchasing RAM more than 4GB that's a good choice.
if for a storage better purchasing an SSD than HDD. the reason (
but SSD prices are cheap compared with GPU)
I've got quite a few small SSDs kicking around so I'll be using those for sure.
If you use windows 10 and want to leave the miner to work long without reseting its safe to use 8gb(if you will get more then 2GPU for example 6-8) the price for additional 4gb is not a big deal here, the biggest prise is always the GPU cards( BTW the price went much lower cause of market capitalization went down)
If you were not seting up the rig before i can send you really nice free step by step guide i found when i was seting up my rigs, let me know if you need;)
I've seen a few guides but seeing someone else's input would definitely be helpful. Everyone has different tips and tricks from what I've seen.
4 gb of ram is enough even in windows 10 and the processor is a good one for mining , many people go for the g 3900 but g4400 makes a difference here as it is more powerful for just about 10-15 dollars more in price.
As for risers get the version 009s or latest because they have all possible connections , 4 pin molex, 6 pin pcie and sata.
You can buy six of them and put 6 graphic cards to your motherboard. Since you are going with 1060 cards a 850 watt modular psu is enough to run them even on full power.
Aha, you see this is why I ask for advice here. 009s are what I will be looking for for sure, since they seem the most future-proof.
Any recommendations on fans while I'm at it? I mean I'd love for them to be quiet, but I don't know how to tell if they would be loud/quiet or what I would need for 1-6 GPUs
I'm probably going to just build a frame since it that can be dirt cheap rather than paying $100-$200.
