This is not necessarily about my mistake but I had a family member who was adamant that buying in at $20k was a good idea because "bitcoin will continue to rise"
That was a mistake, for sure but a good experince for you if you did not lose much of your total money. I had many mistakes on my choices, too. But since I targeted to hold these coins for a very long time, I do not upset me.
Yes,investment in NXT for Ignis airdrop was epic fail for many people,my mistake also was in last year,bought 30 Neo at its first pump on the peak at 55 $ then I sold it during the another bitcoin crush just for 25 $ instead of waiting till tne end of that year when the price was 150 $ !!!

The ICO seemed promising at the beginning and unfortunely it failed
. I will admit that until to this day I still regret that investment becuase I know I will never see that money again 
My biggest cryptocurrency mistake was to selling altcoins too early in the spring of 2017. Everything began to grow, and I was in a hurry to fix the profit. My profit was 50-70%, but if I didn't sell, I could have made some significant profit from some altcoins.
One of my biggest mistake was not having a plan for a trade/investment. I used too sell to early or too late. I don't mean to catch tops or bottoms. Like someone said "everyone can play, but to win one should have a strategy"

My mistake is to sell 4.6 BTC in April 2017 
For me, one of my biggest mistakes was to buy the top of the coins when the bull market was around. The hype was much and I invested and when the market turned bearish, my portfolio diminished by -60% and am still holding the coins I bought. That taught me a great lesson

I have also known a person or two who were unfortunately baited to buy a lot of NXT because of the Ignis airdrop. They have the same complaints as you. But I am not saying that was a scam. The airdrop was true.
I don't have a very huge mistake in crypto. I can say this because I am not losing so huge an amount due to some critical decisions. I lost a little when I bought in the month of June last year. The market was beginning to go down at that time after a huge pump earlier.
Unfortunately we sell most of the coins we have at very low prices. We are losing a lot of money because we can not find the right timing. Only to get $ 100 to $ 200 to avoid profits altogether. So if there is any possibility hold till i die! 
Doubtful and panic when deciding the decision to sell the token. It was very a big fault when I felt doubtful and panic when the price was dropping. It happened when the price was very dropped and at that time I sold my coins for lost. That thing, of course, my big mistake because I couldn't be more patient to just wait for some months to rise. This experience is a very good teacher to be lessons in this recent era.

In 2012 I sold my 2 BTC for dollars, as was planning to finish the job with cryptocurrency. At the moment, I think this is my greatest mistake. Just had to leave them in the wallet but I was stupid and the prospect of bitcoin I did not seem as real. What is your biggest cryptocurrency mistake???
I did the same mistake, bought NXT in the top just only for Ignis airdrop. And my other mistake is greedy, in december last year all coin in the top price but iam not sell it because i think the price wil continue going up, all this my mistake make me in huge loss. Learn from it, now i will try to change my mindset about price action of crypto, wich crypto is not all the times to go higher but also will going down drasticly.

That's such a deep lesson for you, and for all cryptors. FOmo is a knife and it can hurt you.
I got in many coins during peak time at the end of 2017 like you. But I have not sold any of them. I keep holding them and hope a better price in the future.
Our greed always pushes us to make mistakes: during last big pump period (Jan 2018) I didn't fix any profit for most of coins which grew for 200%+.
I bought a little BTC when its price was about $ 14,000 and did not have time to sell it. Although the amount was small, I'm very sorry about this. I think that the market will not soon return to that level of prices
My biggest mistakes are selling Bitcoins at 2000 and Litecoins at 42 last spring.Then I had been waiting for 1000 $ price again Cheesy and missed all the crazy rally at the end of the year.So stupid that I didn't believe in bitcoin power.
To my great regret, this is the purchase of KuCoin Shares for a large sum. Where my head and mind were, I do not know. Buy at such a high price in the hope that growth will continue - it was very stupid. The market fell and the value fell 3 times. I do not even know if it will cost the same as before.

That is the reason why the volatility of the market is really important and most of the professional traders do really like this kind of growth in the market in order for them to get the best price they are intended to have.
But however, no need to regret, even I missed the ETH train when it's still few dollars and now has become hundreds, if I just investing huge money into it, I could've been a millionaire but I'm not, and maybe it's my fate LOL.
