I have been thinking the same thing for years and it is driving me crazy ..., you are making sense my friend. I too back in 2010 thought about buying bitcoin and never investigated if I could actually buy the coins. Maybe I couldn't get them even if I wanted too?  Another thing, I also got into mining "apparently" I was late in that profit generating model too. Then I tried cloud mining and I think I broke even. I then thought maybe I should just buy and flip. I made a couple of hundred dollars on that one, but the stress was killing me. Ok back to reality there is no quick way/easy way to "make it on easy street" as my Grampa's last words to me were "work hard, don't spend more than you earn and save for a rainy day" I have been blessed with good health and loving Wife and a job that I enjoyed...... HEY I AM ALREADY ON EASY STREET!!!!!!!

I'm with you all the way.  Sounds like we've actually got life pretty good, all things considered!

Oh well, I guess I could also think about every stock trade I sold prematurely or mistimed - or that I was too lazy to deposit that $50 check to buy Ripple when it was a small fraction of a cent (that small check would be worth about $20k to me now) or figure out how to actually obtain some Bitcoin when I first learned about it in 2010 (and wanted to invest).  There are a billion ways I could probably be rich - but there is only one reality, ha ha!

So true. I always live in the poor person reality. Maybe subconsciously, I want to be not rich.

I was just thinking about this.  I remember moving 4 Bitcoin over to trade on Cryptsy.  After the bubble popped and a lot of the speculative coins lost a lot of value I sort of stopped checking in on it.

I really wish there was some way to recover these coins, it's a shame what happened with "Big Vern".  The 30 Litecoins I had on that exchange alone would be worth $9k by now.  I also happen to know Worldcoin, Fastcoin, Goldcoin, and several others that I had significant holdings in have made a pretty big comeback with all the recent coin mania.  The latest I saw is that some law firm is now going after Coinbase to recover funds for those that lost significantly in the Cryptsy debacle.  Coinbase has always been a good, secure, reliable service and that doesn't seem like something I want to be a part of.  I never really liked the "robbing Peter to pay Paul" idea.

I also had some holdings over in BTC-E when they got seized by the feds for a similar reason (robbing Peter to pay Paul, due to stolen Mt. Gox coins being exchanged on BTC-E) - though they have always been good to me and I believe they will ultimately pay back their loyal customers - now as Wex.  I was clearly too trusting of exchanges when I first got into this stuff, lots of hard lessons have been learned over these last few years.

I hope I can get them back. I had about 2-3 bitcoins worth of a little of each currency on there. I'm sure they would be worth quite a bit now.

Is there way to get back the coins.
Almost 3btc plus was lost in Cryptsy ?

You can fill out the receiver's form at this link.

http://cryptsyreceivership.com/registration/

It's not exactly a claim form, it's for giving the receiver details of what funds you had on cryptsy.

Thanks. Didn't realize that the receiver required you to make a claim. Thought they had all the details of the owners of the coins.

Big vern wiped the cryptsy servers clean before he ran. The receiver has no details of who owns what to work with. You need evidence to convince him you held coins on cryptsy like screenshots, or emails.

And if you didn't bother to keep emails about logins (which most people delete), you are stuffed?

In that case I assume you are stuffed. Perhaps someone else can think of other proof that would convince him, but I can't.

The owner Paul Vernon claims that a bunch of coins were stolen via a hack.  So he can't give us our money (coins) back.  He says now that the coins were stolen over a year ago and he withheld this info and kept accepting deposits.  Of course we don't know for sure if he was hacked.  He may have just taken it all himself.  If there was a hacker, I haven't heard that there is any progress on finding out who it is.

I'm telling you, this is the work of "The Owner".

i had to read it thrice to get the joke;

hacker also goes by "whip the servers"

Here's the latest update from the receiver:

https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/bitcoin-cryptsy-subpoenas-ceo-missing/

Quote
The receiver, James D. Sallah, an attorney for Miami, Fla.-based Payton & Associates LLC, filed the report in the U.S. District Court Southern District of Florida.

The court appointed Sallah as receiver last month in response to an investor lawsuit and gave him control of Cryptsy’s assets, CCN reported.

Sallah confirmed in his report that investors do not have access to their Cryptsy accounts and that significant amounts of funds are missing and/or possibly locked in Cryptsy servers that he’s trying to access. He also confirmed that Cryptsy is no longer operating.

Sallah said he has not received any cooperation from Vernon. He demanded an accounting of the missing funds from Vernon in a letter, but has received no response. He said he has gained some cooperation from former Cryptsy employees.

He is trying to find all of the investors and determine what they are owed. He is also trying to find out which investors made money, how much, and when, as well as which received money back.

Sallah noted he has spoken with investors daily. He said he will try to determine how investors can be repaid what they are owed. If any investors improperly profited, he will try to see that the profits are returned and take legal action if necessary.

The receiver also said he will contact the landlord of the premises in Delray Beach where Cryptsy operated. He said there are presently no computers, furniture or equipment to secure unless it was relocated, which he will continue to investigate.

Alas as the gov has now taken control there is a 100% chance we will never get anything they will take EVERYTHING from us depositors in the name of "justice" and sell them off for their profit.

The gov.. utter scum.

Hello Spazzdla,

I do not understand gov. Why do they not pay out the coins to the former owners?
They should be a model.

But you are right. They take everything they can.
There is no justice.

Kind Regards,
Zorro

Crypto is a heaven for scammers because scammers now they can get away with it. It's the way it has been going on for years.

Hi Sandroxa,

yes government does it for years.
Government acts as a thief for years.
We do not have to accept this. It is not right.

They should check the owners of the coins and give the coins back to the rightful owners.

Why should they sell the coins, take the money and run?

Kind regards,
Zorro

I'm looking for free spin.

I guess it's just another "I got hacked" scam. Most websites use this reason to runaway. Of course if you assume that it's true, then you will not be able to get your coins back. I wonder why would someone "withhold" that info as it's a big bad news to the users.
Yeah they dont want to involve in this problem any more if they cant say their site is hack.. they are just run your money and i know they are not telling the truth..
