You are the only person that has access to that address. You can change it and delete the private key when you wish but you need to create a signature first. Something like. "Iam XXX, i will delete my bitcoin address now and delete this address. I will post a new address now. It is XXXXX."

If you have this then nobody can blame you when you can't sign further messages because the signature is valid and shows that you owned that signature at one point. It should not be possible to fake this.

Did i miss something?

Everything is cleared now. QS suggested me to post a new address from where I can sign a message.

I think that might not be enough. At least if you want to sell the account or proov ownership in the short term.

What a hacker would do when he hacks an account with the intention to sell it or give it out as collateral would be to delete all addresses you posted and post a new address he controls. If he can't delete an address then he might hope for luck.

If you can't sign a message for the old address then, at least up to some months, your account will look risky for potential buyers. I think it will always be good to be safe. Though i wonder why you would delete a private key at all. Safe the private key or/and import it into your new wallet and you are fine.

I even thought about an attack vector from someone selling an account where he posted a bitcoin address in. Before he sells he posts a new address and deletes the old one. Then he sells the account with a fresh account and writes a signature for the new address. Then he waits until the new owner levelled the account up until it is hero or so. Then claims a stolen account and shows the old address in internet cache. He would get the account probably. Though he has to tell why he was not online for one year of course.

Theoretical attack vector i guess. Tongue

But anway... think about if that would be a problem for you.

Yes. I have verified my mail id. But I don't know   how to reset using it. Please , tell me how to reset the password , if its still possible.

I thought password can be reset but I think I was wrong. Sorry!

Have you enabled email backup? Try to check your email account. Blockchain.info used to send email backups. There maybe a backup in your email too. I don't remember if the option is enabled by default or not.
It is not possible to reset your password. Your password is what decrypts your wallet and bc.i cannot directly decrypt your wallet without your password. The decryption is done on the client side.

Is there no way to display the private key on the bc.info mobile app?

No. We can't access private keys from both Blockchain.info mobile app and mobile UI.

Another bad thing happened with me. Yesterday,  I have restored my phone by taking a backup of every single stuffs and assume blockchain wallet will also stay as it is after I restored the backup.

Phone was hanging many times and processing was also too slow. That's why , I need to restore my Samsung Mobile Phone.

Now I loose access from both android and online wallet due to main password lost.

Your password is changed and your reasons are becoming sketchy. I don't think you can do anything now. The best thing now is to post a new address and continue posting in the forum. If post with new address is a few months old, then you could probably use it to prove ownership.

Edit: Didn't you verify your email in that account? If so, you can reset your password.

Guys, all of you always ask for a old bitcoin signed message. I want to know, signing up a message from a old posted btc address proves what ?

I mean to say, a professional scammer can buy a alt account with higher rank like " Hero member " and sign a message too . What happened if he scams ?

Can you explain the purpose of signing up a message.

The purpose of signing a message is for you to prove you own the account and to prove that you are the same person who owns the account 3 months ago, you can point to an old post with an address that you can sign a message using that old address. its just to prove that its the same person from 3,4 or 5 months ago or depending when was the oldest post. But it doesn't mean one cannot turn into a scammer.

Even if you have a Legendary status if one day you wake up and feels like scamming people, a Legendary member can do that even if he can sign a message from day 1.

stake your address at tomatocage's thread if you plan to use your new bitcoin address
but I guess someone is funding your loan by now from your other thread

What is the use of staking the old btc address to that thread. [1] ? And after staking the btc address, can i use a new fresh btc address here on forum[2] ? Plz clear my confusion.

[1] so that you can point to that post when you need to prove your ownership. it's not really needed if you already posted that address somewhere else on this forum

[2] you can use a new fresh btc address anytime. just make sure you don't lose the private key of the old address because someone might ask for a signed message from the staked address.

It's all about this topic: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.12157547

If you really are the owner of the mentioned address there should be no problem to send the loan to this address. If you lie tho and the account you're writing with is hacked and you don't own the wallet, sending funds their would be useless for you. In this case you should better offer a good collateral.

Is there no way to display the private key on the bc.info mobile app?

I haven't used it but if it works like the blockchain.info site then anytime you want to take backup of your keys you're asked to provide the password of the account and since OP says he forgot his password the app might not let him view the key.

So OP all this time you were sending and receiving BTC from the app, it never occurred to you take a back up of your keys, what would happen if one day you're not able to access the app? How will you take control of your funds then?

I am going to start using mycelium android wallet for my all transactions now. Also I have written the backup words on a paper which will help me to recover my wallet anytime.

I am using an old address 1BPFKnxAENaxp26g8QbWKUWMuedRo5ZjDY from many years and now in 2015 January  , I got my new Samsung Mobile Phone. So, I have pair my blockchain online wallet with my Samsung Mobile where I installed blockchain android wallet.

From that day , I am always using it on only my phone by setting up a PIN CODE for apps. I didn't access it on my Pc a single time as I can do transactions easily from my android blockchain wallet.

Because of continuous use of Blockchain android wallet on my phone , I have forgot my main password now. But, I can still access above btc address .

So, my question is :

If anyone lost his old and main btc address access . Is that member indicated as a alt of any scammer member or he didn't own that btc address . ?

Now I want to change my regular use btc address. But members here ask for old unedited btc address with a signed message.

I can show and prove in any way that I was using that btc address .

Plz clarify my doubt , what to do with this matter.

You shouldn't lose any address because you are supposed to backup your private key, don't you?

If you want to change your address, you can sign the following message with your old address:

Quote
The (new address) is exclusively controlled by the holder of (old address). Signature by (new address) is equivalent to signature by (old address)

By doing this , am I able to change my old address to new address ?

I am willing to use mycelium bitcoin wallet and its address as my personal btc address. Also mycelium android wallet has a option to sign a message.

When people request you to sign with the old address, you just show the signed message so they will know the signatures are equivalent.

EDIT: In any case, you should never delete the backup of your old wallet

I have a backup of my old address . But I forgot the main password of it. I am still having control over that btc address via blockchain android wallet.

As per your suggestion, I am signing a mesaage you have quoted above and I will save it in my pc or phone.
