also you can use mew as an offline wallet by simply downloading the file and view it on a browser, i think this is the safest way to use MEW which you have to use the UTF file too every time you access.

Hello guys, I am just starting to participate to different bounties and all of those are Ethereum based. I also have myetherwallet and I also like to couple of questions about this wallet. This is kinda tricky to me since I used to my bitcoin wallet. Anyway here are my questions and hopefully someone clarify this

1. As I checked online, there is already a way from MEW that you can convert Ethereum to Bitcon. You just need to enter your btc address from your preffered wallet. Am I right/safe to say this?

2. As I checked other thread, they mentioned that your Ethereum should have funds first before you can convert it to Bitcoin. My question, is it okay if I just remain minimal amount of Ethereum on my MEW and that will be the one who will serve as my transaction fee? Or should I convert ALL and the system will automatically deduct the transaction fee from the amount you'll be sending to your BTC address?

I hope I expressed my self clearly. Thanks guys!

just put few maybe $10 worth of ETH, i think that could last for a weeks/month if you make transactions each day.  you can't store BTC in there too.

myetherwallet is accesible in any OS on mobile phones since you would only need to logged in on the site and accessing your wallet thru private keys and another options that beings seek. I dont know if theres an app based but as far as i know it hasnt which you would really need to use or enter the website link.

Using myetherwallet is very simple and easy. Every wallet needs to provide service via internet. Myetherwallet also an internet based wallet. You can access your account to by private key easily. You should keep your private key safely. Here you can send or receive ether and token both.

I have created a wallet on MEW (https://www.myetherwallet.com/) and I have a number of questions / clarification needed:

1) To my understanding, this is not an online wallet: the website simply generate a wallet address, and gives me the public and private keys, which I can then safely store offline or on a piece of paper, if I wish so, right?

2) Once I have the address generate at 1) above, I can then send ETH and/or a number of ETH tokens to this address, right?

3) the blockchain knows that this address has received this amount of ETH and that amount of tokens. If I'm in control of the private key, then I can use my ETH and/or token for whatever I please: transfer them to another user, another wallet, an exchange etc ... Correct?

4) Even though I store on my address different tokens and/or ETH, I only need one private key right? I.e. once I know the address and my private key that unlocks my wallet with all the content which I can then use as I prefer.

Thanks for helping to understand!
Cheers,
Jay
Yes you are right and the other service of ethereum wallet that simple and easy be used is jaxx.io, you can import the private key of ethereum in it, it support on mobile devices too, so you can use your coins in your hand. Also many altcoins be supported by jaxx.io ethereum, bitcoins, litecoin and other.
Here not only altcoins can be used. Many of tokens that were produced during ICOs supported by the wallet. I have joined to My Ethr Wallet exactly cause of that. I have invested in some tokens this summer and now want to move all of them to one place and My Ethr Wallet is the exactly place which allows to make so.

I'm having some troubles with MEW, once I login it doesn't load properly the token list, before I could see the whole list with a "loading" next to the name, now it only shows the last token.
It does show correctly the Ether amount though.

Am I the only one having this problem?  Huh

Hi,

Somehow I just don't catch on MyEtherwallt security features.

I wonder if MEW is save enough, because I read at their help center e.g. "Please be sure that you are carefully and accurately typing your private key. A single wrong character will open a different wallet than is yours". Wow, (by off chance) it could happen that I open another one's wallet and withdrawal easily his assets then because no additional (personal) password is requested? For which reason I must set this "strong password (at least 9 characters)" at wallet creation, if this password isn't needed anymore later? Not very trustworthy... why I can unlock my wallet just with my private key only?

Yes, I also was wondering about this message that another wallet could be opened. But for declaring: You only would try to get access but wouldn't be able to open. I think, the private key is safe enough, I think. You need your strong password, if you want it more comfortable or if you fear that your privat key can get stolen by malware on your PC.
yes, i have tried out that already and it did work and access other wallet address but mostly you would able to open up new addresses which dont really have any inside funds on it which it would really takes time for you to find out an wallet address which do have some tokens on it. Its nearly impossible to do such thing and i know MEW devs do already prepare on this one.

Didn't want to open a new topic, but little question: I've got some ETH on an address created by MEW.

Am I correct that I can send other ETH-based coins (like ICONOMI, GOLEM etc.) to that same address?? Or do I have to create a new address in MEW for each new edit: different coin I buy?

Thank you in advance guys!

You can hold all your coins in just one wallet Smiley

Hi,

Somehow I just don't catch on MyEtherwallt security features.

Also, why there is no "logout" button, resp. "lock wallet again"? I always have a bad feeling if I close the browser window while wallet is unlocked. Atm I´m uncertain if I really should store a higher ETH amount there. Thanxx for some thoughts/explanations and sorry for my rookie English.

I really dont understand what you are really trying to say but as a user of MEW for almost several months when you close your browser your wallet is automatically locked or logout if you are using your own personal computer/laptop I think everything is safe but if you're using from public shops the best way is to clear your browser cache and history after using the browser for the safety of your wallet...

You have asked 4 questions and i shall answer them one after the other.

1, It is an online wallet.

2, Yes but you will need to add the token to your watch list by inserting some data otherwise your token will not appear.

3, Yes.

4, Yes.

I will add only that it is necessary to send not on a private key, namely to the address which supports reception of necessary tokens. It is for tokens that I registered the wallet on this resource, but so far I have not translated anything.
